- Do you want to learn English with the TV show Friends? I’ll show you how to learn English speaking by analyzing a fun clip from the iconic TV show Friends, the one with Rachel's English Trifle! English learners know that learning how to read in English is only half the battle. If you want to also speak English well, one great way to learn is through the kinds of conversation analysis I’ll demonstrate for you here. I can help you learn English speaking by showing you the reductions and linking that native English speakers use in conversational English. These are the elements that might make you feel like you’re not able to follow native American English speakers when they’re talking at a full conversational pace. When you use TV shows like Friends to learn English speaking you’re conquering one of the huge challenges right from the outset: you’re learning from native English speakers! The sounds that make up spoken English don’t always correlate to the letters on the page but I’ll help you learn English with the TV show Friends and in no time you’ll be sounding more and more like a native speaker of American English! Let’s get to work!

This video so good. Can can make these the video more than
I’m an American native English speaker. And watching this in this way, it’s actually amazing that no native speaker would ever have the slightest trouble understanding such conversations when so many words are cut short and/or run together. Obviously all languages do similar things. Our brains are quite amazing at understanding language.
Thanks for sharing!

You have got to tell us more about American people are pronouncing coz what we do not understand we do speak the same language English but the difference is about pronouncing so keep up the good work about it
Native speaker here... I think my pronunciation of "already" is more of a dark L + "ready" (with the a dropped)... But Rachel's way is much easier and will be perfectly understood by everyone so probably go with that one!
Thank you tons for your maverlous lessons.
My pleasure Yethu!

Excellent lesson!
Thanks Jose!
Hi Rachel, in the sentence 'Will you serve the dessert already?', the T in dessert is a Stop T. However, the next word begins with a vowel. I thought we have Stop T when the next word begins with a consonant?
There are no real "rules" that define how you have to say this. Some people will use a Flap T here, others will use a Stop T, as you describe. Both are perfectly fine options!
@@rachelsenglish Thanks Rachel👏

thank you for your service
Amazing Rachel, thanks.
Hi Rachel, I got a question regarding your pronunciation of the word "didn't" in 0:03. It seems like you pronounced the second d sound as a stop T. Should it be pronounced as a flap T or a stop T? When I think of the rule, it should be a flap T, but I really find it inconvenient and unnatural to pronounce that, especially when I'm speaking fast. Is stop T acceptable? Same question for the words "couldn't", "wouldn't" "shouldn't". Many thanks!
Hi! I'm using a Stop D (or a Held D) in the word 'didn't'. That is different from the Stop T in that it is a voiced sound. You will hear the beginning of the D sound, and then the release directly into the following consonant, the N sound. The same thing does happen with 'couldn't', 'wouldn't' and 'shouldn't'. We're actually working on a video on the Held D right now - so you'll be able to learn more about this soon! :)
@@rachelsenglish Thank you! I'm so looking forward to watching the video!

Great class but it's just about pronunciation, that is great, but I desire to increase my vocab, so I've made a research with the words I didn't know. But it is clarifying to me. See "ya" next class.

You're welcome Lerush!
I taught English to Russian conscripts and learned from a native Russian speaker that one of the best ways to learn English from TV was by watching Star Trek Next Generation. The dialogue was always immediately followed by an action. That made it easy for non-English speakers to pick up the context.
Hello Rachel, thank you very much for these lessons they’re very helpful just carry on it 👌🖐
You're welcome Egzon!
Rachel's English, Could you please record a video about IPA-International Phonetic Alphabet, before analysing different movies, because when we learn the IPA then it’s easier to understand the other videos.
Thank you for your understanding.
The best method of learning English!! Always thank you!!
Thanks a lot Rach ❤️, it's helpful lesson 👍, wish you all the best
Hi, Rachel's, Without repeating the pronunciations of speaking, I get only 30%; however, when all sentences show on the VDO, I understand 70%. That's why last a few years ago I went to school and took exams, I got a high level writing class but low level listening and speaking class.
English is as my third language because before I learn English, I already learnt Thai and Hmong is my native language.
Can u give me best advice to achieve listening and speaking ?
😍😍Thank you so much
you are the best thanks
You're welcome Miguel!
best channel ever thanks Rach
