Another awesome museum! Some seriously drool-worthy cars in that place. The public spirited Mr. Hubnut does the right thing! Idiots on the road, everywhere you go in the world. Could've ended so much worse and I think it was the right time for the police to become involved. Ian, you Sir are a good egg!
The mechanical gate on the Rolls brought back some memories! When I was a kid, the playground closest to my home had one of the coolest things in the world, a real 1920s fire engine! It had been put there in the late 50s or early 60s I think and survived into the 1990s, although with more and more parts either disappearing or being welded into place. The gear lever was gone by the time I played there but the mechanical gate was there until the end. The handbrake lever survived too but it was welded into position to prevent injury. One thing that did move right until the end was the steering wheel, although it didn't do anything, just turned freely. The happy memories! Supposedly it was restored to driving condition, so that's actually a good thing, but no one seems to know where it's kept. I think now there's a wooden replica with two steering wheels to keep the kids from squabbling :-)
A lot of those white coloured rocks you walked on were pushed up by the huge 7.8 earthquake in November 2016. The power of nature! The road and railway were destroyed and closed for 13 months. Great vid. Get to Nelson at some stage if you can and see the WOW Museum. Hundreds of cars on display. All owned by one of Nelsons wealthiest men!
The Car collection was marvellous the owner was not afraid to buck the trends and actually buy cars that he enjoyed and not follow the norm good times indeed Alan👍
The part on the Cadillac wipers you referred to as a brake is actually a track to keep the wiper arm, which is on a pivot, at the correct angle as it traveled around the wraparound windshield. The range of the wipers are from the base of the windshield in the center of the car to the base of the windshield on the side of the car. I had a 1960 coupe and they worked surprisingly well as they pushed the water completely off the front of the windshield and around to the side, past the door and the tail fin to collect behind the rear bumper where it would start corrosion that eventually caused your taillight assembly to fall out and hang by it’s wires. Good times.
Heart skipped a beat when i saw the Edsel Citation! Beautiful! As a kid in the 90s I was obsessed with these and joined the Edsel Owners Club of Great Britain, I even named my Hamster Edsel! While at school one day a couple from the other end of the country knocked at the Door asking to see my Edsel and my mum showed them upstairs to my Hamster cage 🤣🤣 They were not amused...
Mr. Hubnut, you're a man after my own heart: you move down the line of these beautiful old behemoths and only stop at the hot red Corvette long enough to note how the wipers work. I hope to have a tea with you one of these days!

Not much road feel to be honest and part of the trip was over a mountain with snowy roads. Summer tires in front, studded winter tires in the rear, no heat, didn't idle, brakes needed pumping, didn't brake in straight line, my teeth chattered like hell from the cold but I was 19 and drove a 66 Mustang with a 289 and four on the floor. I have to say I absolutely love that coffin Nosed Cord. What an absolutely Beauty of a car. If I suddenly became rich I honestly would love one. 1939 and you had pop up headlights and front wheel Drive. That is a car like no other truly amazing 👍
That whole area around Kaikōura got trashed by the 2016 earthquake, the sea floor south of an East-West fault line got moved up 1 meter. Sewerage plant destroyed, all roads into the town blocked, The main road you drove on (and it's parallel rail line) were buckled, broken, and buried under thousands of tons of dirt and rock. Took a few months to bodge together roads that were passable with 4WD vehicles.
4:06 I was about to say that all that restructuring is from the earthquake. That land never used to be there. Incredible eh? In fact the road through to kaikoura is relatively new. Other info... Kaikoura means seafood, specifically crab or lobster. Kai is food, koura is shellfish.
When I was last in Kaikura there were a number roadside caravans selling crayfish/lobsters. You selected one from an oil barrel filled with water, it was cooked in front of you, then served up in a wrap of newspaper. One of the best meals I have ever had.
Dicky seat? Rumble Seat in the US... La Sabre in "American", la say-burr... Later Vectras were made in Springhill, TN as well. Remember seeing right hand drive ones on trucks heading to the port back in the 80's and early 90's! No one builds cars there now... Love the Studebakers!
Quick thinking to pull over. Good that you are OK. Be careful we have bad drivers in Australia too. I have driven in most states. Doing under speed limit is rammed down our throats in Oz. So some drivers think as long as they are not speeding they are being safe (and stop thinking). I found driving in Old Blighty with British drivers much better, and safer. Stay safe and enjoy your well earned break:)
I have always love those old cars with the running boards, big front mudguards and headlamps since I was a kid and my favourite car (never owned :-( ) a 1930's Bentley like Steed's car, blower or not. That Studebaker is the bee's knees, the interior looked as big as the caravan that you were staying in. The coffin noses look like Dick Tracy or original Batman cars.
These days they act unlawfully as they are supposed to wait for a gap in the traffic and not just step out and stop the traffic flow but some people , put a uniform on them and it goes to their head. Traffic Wardens are a prime example of that, failed Policemen.

It doesn't sound like you're a Mustang fan, but even though they were introduced mid model year in 1964 they were all titled as '65. However, they made some significant changes in calendar year '65 that caused collectors to refer to the earliest ones as '64 1/2. For one thing they switched from a generator to an alternator and the V8 models grew from 260 to 289 c.i.

The first Mustang I drove was a 64, Six cylinder with 3 speed manual gear box. It looked good but the cars economy car chassis let it down. Hit any kind of bump in a corner and the live rear axle skipped around. Basically a Ford Falcon in pretty clothes.

On the cadillac wipers the bit you refer to as some form of brake, I think you will find they are a cam track that is meant to lift the wiper blades up and over the screen surround for parking ,the track is now in the wron position as are the wiper blades for parked position.
I have a memory from many years ago of a magazine article about driving the Cord which commented on the preselector gearbox being rather brutal. The next edition had a follow-up saying it had been pointed out that it was a conventional gearshift with a servo mechanism not a preselector and using [it] as one was abusing the interlock that stopped you changing gear unless the clutch was depressed, so no wonder it was abrupt.
@@HubNut A bit more has been dredged up from my memory - there was a comment about being scared a gear would come through the front of the gearbox. Still can't remember what mag it was in.
seals are just the labador of the seas cute big things that eat almost anything and are mostly seen sleeping, should have put a hubnut sticker in the museum, might of been fun, also nice cars all mostly non hubnut but still nice,
Hi Ian,you only been there for a few days and it's all kicking off, LOL,that museum with all the cars were awesome.the caravan with the nice scenery was epic.
16:39 The Edsel was actually billed as a "Mid Priced" full-size car, stuck in there with brands like Mercury, Oldsmobile, and Chrysler (the Chrysler-branded cars were slotted above Dodge and below imperial, in the U.S. market). Large Edsels (there were 2 wheelbases) were produced in various U.S. plants including one in Sommerville, MA, which has since been converted into the Assembly Square Markeplace shopping mall. One irony about the Edsel project was that the mid-priced market segment was already in decline, leaving an open question about whether models between the bread-and-butter models and brands like Cadillac and Lincoln should even exist; many of the then current mid-priced makes were remnants from corporate takeovers in earlier years. To this day, Mercury, Oldmobile and Pontiac have all disappeared, though Chrysler and Buick are still going .
Another superb video. The views are breath taking & fantastic to see. The car collections you have visited are unexpected and varied in their content. Superb to see and look forward to next video
That last segment reminds me of the tale of Road Dreams by Elliot Bristow. He went to USA on a fortnights holiday, witnessed a shooting and was compelled to stay in USA for 12 years. He shot lots of cine film whilst there which eventually was spliced together to make a TV show.
The 39 Stude looks to have an Australian Sloper body. The Caddy's also had perspex horns which would blow the cold air over the heads of the passengers.
A man goes into a seaside town garage with his car leaking oil. Whilst waiting for the diagnosis he went and bought an ice cream. Afterwards he went back to see what horrors the mechanic had found. "Looks like you've blown a seal" said the mechanic. "No, it's just ice cream" said the man.

Ah, there we are. Just going on what the owner told me. I'd love to drive one.
@@HubNut A bit more has been dredged up from my memory - there was a comment about being scared a gear would come through the front of the gearbox. Still can't remember what mag it was in.
seals are just the labador of the seas cute big things that eat almost anything and are mostly seen sleeping,
should have put a hubnut sticker in the museum, might of been fun, also nice cars all mostly non hubnut but still nice,
21:30 -My nomination for quote of the year.
Hi Ian,you only been there for a few days and it's all kicking off, LOL,that museum with all the cars were awesome.the caravan with the nice scenery was epic.
Hubnut and Eastenders all in one episode ..Excellent
The Studebaker President coupe is stunning
The view out the caravan window was very Wales like.
Excellent video! Well, even including the drama at the end! :-)
But yes, please relax! Have a good break! :-)
Another superb video. The views are breath taking & fantastic to see. The car collections you have visited are unexpected and varied in their content. Superb to see and look forward to next video
The Cadillac dashboard looks like it's off Rod Taylor's time machine.
good caravan what a view.!! cord and silver ghost !!!
awesome Edsel Citation convertible, very rare.
Another great video Ian. I feel like I'm on holiday with you! NZ is definitely on my bucket list now.
David attenborough does hubnut!!😂👍
That last segment reminds me of the tale of Road Dreams by Elliot Bristow. He went to USA on a fortnights holiday, witnessed a shooting and was compelled to stay in USA for 12 years. He shot lots of cine film whilst there which eventually was spliced together to make a TV show.
Fantastic private car museum! Day slightly blighted with the police incident lol
Some really beautiful cars, I agree, the coupe deville shouldn't be restored too much.
Well done Ian good hindsight letting the nutter past..pheww that could have turned out different, well done mate.
Video was brilliant as always.
Take care Ian.
Wow that backdrop near the seals I gotta go one day. Liked the vectra I always rather liked them don't think we ever had that colour option in the UK.
Enjoying your vids. Bringing back a lot of memories from 2009, 2011.
Just goes to show even in a paradise people still fallout, think you should be made an honouree kiwi or at least a brown owl 😂., great video Ian ,enjoy your few days off and RELAX.
The torpedos on the front of the coupe de ville are fantastic! Wonder if there is a launch button inside?
They were called "Dagmars" at the time, after an actress known for having similar features.
7:20 Look how tidy the garage is! Lol :-)
Seems that’s the second close shave you’ve had recently! Good call re the arguing couple, in every sense. Agree with your comments re soaps too. Gave up watching any of them many, many years ago. Eastenders in particular is just so depressing Really loving your tour of NZ. Thanks for posting all that you do. It’s been brilliant so far. Stay safe Hubnut!
What a weird situation that ensued with Eastenders Couple behind you? Well spotted! Saw your post on FB about it! Great museum btw.
18:12 This might be the Mustang Wilson Pickett bought for "Sally"! All together now, 1, 2, 3.... Mustang Sally, gotta slow your mustang down.....!
That blue Stang was delightful! Glad Elizabeth didn't get rear-ended, that would have been a nasty business. Poor guy prob had enough of his wife's back seat driving and finally cracked!
Last year returning from Scotland in our campervan on the M6 we witnessed a chap punching the hell out a woman. He was all over they motorway. Beautiful collection of cars.👍
The road down the coast to Kaikoura is all new. It got destroyed in an earthquake in 2011
Haa nice one I thought I was the only person ever in the wrong place at the wrong time
There's a lot to be said for countries with few people in them.
Yes, a wonderful little collection of cars, I think we're missing something in this country.
You're right, but downsize is you have to go on a date with a sheep...
Ahhhh the good old 1st gear whine of an AU Falcon BTR transmission
The coupe deville lives close to me and i wish everyone could here it going past, it sounds like its idling doing 80-100km 👍
