The Gnasty Gnorc stage seemed tough at first, but it's surprisingly easy when you figure out how to beat it. The keys can be grabbed without really chasing the holders, by charging and shooting fire in the direction they go from their original starting points. Hitting Gnorc the first time is a matter of hitting him within about 2 seconds after he lands on the platform at the top of the track, and the second and final hit on him is just waiting for you at the end of the lava.

@@ScummyRebel i know this video isnt all about levels you hate, but just to mention the few levels i really disslike, here is mine:
1 Wild Flight: the other Flying levels took me 5-15 minutes, but this took me more than an hour, and i was more frustraited than you can imagine:))
2 Gnastys Loot: Most of my disslike might come from my disappointment. I played Ripto's Rage and YOTD before this one, and i thought this one felt so bland conpared to Dragons Shore and Super Bonus Round. I also heard from other People how Gnasty Gnorc was really disappointing, while Gnastys Loot. But i had much more fun playing Gnasty Gnorc🤔
Other than that, i do like all the other levels.

Amazing video! I think you’re a very underrated UA-camr! My least favourite level is probably Dry Canyon. (Excluding the flying levels which I really don’t like). As you mentioned there is a lot of climbing and repetitive sections and I never have really been keen on the desert themed worlds in video games. But I still really like this level more than I hate it because it’s Spyro and every level is pretty great!

Dry Canyon might not be my favorite level either, but it still has its moments.
Maximos is funny in the Reignited Trilogy with how he says, “Those birds might look tough, but they’re pretty tasty...flame-broiled with a pinch of salt.” 👌
I loved how they had Conan as a soldier on duty and has to turn around to face Spyro to say his line. Nice touch
Rebel, you are awesome with how you make your videos!

I HATED Night Flight. Took the most tries to win out of all the other flights.
I 100% agree with that choice - it being the worst.
I did rings, gates, chests, and lanterns, but just BARELY got the last one. I spammed firebreath as I was going to it, crossing my fingers that I'd get that sliver of a hit box. 0.7 seconds left... Good grief! :C
And on a separate note, for Tree tops, you either love it or hate it. Depends on how you feel for the challenge it brings.

Great job on this ranking, Rebel! It’s hard for me to pick any least favorite levels in Spyro 1 as I’ve grown fond of them over the years.
But I only have a few least favorites: Gnorc Gnexus ( too small and underwhelming of a hub world), Crystal Flight, and Haunted Towers. Tree Tops was originally my least favorite, but after figuring out the whole procedure of traversing, it’s now one of my favorites and one of the most beautiful and unique of all the Beast Makers levels, especially with that Aurora Borealis light in the green skies.
But again, even though these are my least favorites, I still enjoy them.
Dark Hollow is one of my favorite levels, due to the night sky and calming music. Loved that they made it a library in the remake - nice touch!
Can’t wait for the next level ranking, Rebel!

    • @ScummyRebel
      @ScummyRebel  3 роки тому +1

Lol I didn’t include gnorc gnexus 🤣 it’s more of a hub platform than a hub world anyways.. And as much as I say I love tree tops, I always forget one of the routes and get stuck for 5 minutes trying to remember 😅 great skybox though! And I always loved dark hollow as a kid, but I seriously wish it was longer!

I learned how to do the Tree Tops level thanks to a video “Spyro the Dragon Tips” on PlayStation Underground Vol. 2 Issue 4.

@@ScummyRebel Yeah I wish Dark Hollow was longer too, but you can’t deny Stewart Copeland’s outstanding soundtrack to that level! Boy, he finds creative and peaceful ways to create the right mood for each level - I just can’t get enough of the Dark Hollow soundtrack! When I replay it, I just stand still or play around a bit just to listen to that music over and over again.
It may be a short level, but it sure is a nice peaceful spot to visit now and then. I never tire of Dark Hollow.

I agree with many of your picks, but for me Tree Tops must be in the top 5 Spyro 1 levels, it's just so unique and fun and has a great atmosphere. Stone Hill, Dark Hollow and Artisans are also among my favorites, maybe partly because of nostalgy. I would have instead put Misty Bog near the bottom.

    ( 1 ) Terrace Village. ( 2 ) Night Flight. ( 3 ) Gnasty Gnorc. ( 4 ) Peace Keepers Homeworld. ( 5 ) High Caves. ( 6 ) Toasty. ( 7 ) Misty Bog. ( 8 ) Town Square. ( 9 ) Dry Canyon. ( 10 ) Twilight Harbour

  • @Jemini4228

To me all the Flights are pretty much impossible to complete. There doesn't seem to be a clear order or pathway in any of them and 3 of them look virtually identical. I find a similar problem in Gateway to Glimmer/Ripto's Rage except there is more aesthetic variety. The only decently designed flying levels of the trilogy show up in Year of the Dragon but even then I think the games would be better off without them altogether. The flying levels add nothing to the narrative or progression of the game and if you are not very good at them they serve only as a roadblock to accessing the bonus levels rather than a fun challenge once you have completed everything else. I defeated Gnasty and his henchmen. That should be enough to let me take his loot!

  • @Jemini4228
    @Jemini4228 Рік тому

I agree with you about Toasty although I'd put it higher for the atmospheric music and nostalgia. Considering it was the first boss of the game I think the devs could have chucked us a bit more fodder.

Dry Canyon is somehow least memorable level for me. I love every piece of Spyro 1, but i Dry Canyon... i just don't remember wtf was that

    • @ScummyRebel

I would agree, but there are a couple secrets in dry canyon that make it stand out a little more than Cliff Town IMO. But yeah, it is very bland and forgettable.

Dark hollow is actually my favourite level in the original ps1 version of spyro I loved that music and night time atmosphere I feel the same way about stone Hill I remember getting the key on my first try then accidentally flying into the return home hub portal due to bad placement resulting in having to replay the stage again.
Artisans is my favourite hub world in spyro 1 I enjoyed flaming and charging the gnorcs the music also always gets you pumped and excited to continue on your adventure also like sunrise spring it has good music and beautiful atmosphere.
Tree tops really does sucks though that one harbor level with the gnorcs and there paint guns in the remake is terrible cheap enemy placement unfairly kills you every time very frustrating.

The reason you hate treetops is the reason why I like it.
I agree so much with stony hills, ill say Town Squere is a better "First Level 1"
I agree with the worst level I hate those dogs, that level is so much harder then it had to be. I always see Artisan as the turtorial world. but when a boss level (Toasty) is harder then Magic Crafters (Blowheart), and im not only talking about the boss but the level itself I will say there is a design problem. I like the theme tho

    • @ScummyRebel

Honestly I don’t know! If I can get an emulator running it might be Ape Escape as it’s my favorite from growing up after Spyro and Crash. I do have Super Mario 3D All Stars waiting to be played. Kingdom Hearts is always in the back of my head. I have yet to play Yooka Laylee (I don’t even have a reason, I just haven’t). Ty the Tasmanian Tiger cause the 2nd one will be getting remastered soon! PlayStation Underground, of course. After that the list is just.. big 😅 I haven’t forgotten all the suggestions! Also I may leave it up to a vote as to what I’ll play after Spyro!

@@ScummyRebel Speaking of Ape Escape, have you played Ape Escape 2 and 3 at all? Those also have some great levels too. Some of my favorite levels from each game are:
1: Primordial Ooze, Molten Lava, Dark Ruins, Coral Cave, Frosty Retreat, Hot Springs, Sushi Temple, Wabi Sabi Wall, Specter’s Factory, and Monkey Madness
2: Simian Citadel, Port Calm, The Lost Valley, Castle Frightmare!, Ninja Hideout, Pirate Isle, Land of the Apes, Panic Pyramid, Snowball Mountain, Casino City, and Enter the Monkey
3: Seaside Resort, Saru-mon’s Castle, Specter TV Studio, Bootown, Wild West Town, Winterville, The Emperor’s Castle, Mount Amazing, Toytown, Mirage Town, Eversummer Island, Airplane Squadron, Kung Fu Alley, and Space-TV Fortress

All the Ape Escape levels sure are unique in their own way, and Simian Citadel is my personal favorite from Ape Escape 2. I’m planning on getting AE2 off of PS Store at some point, but it’s too bad they don’t have the first and third Ape Escape games on there.
I sure hope they come out with a remake or follow-up to that series. It’s high time a lot of great game franchises make a great comeback, like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and MediEvil did.

Due to my imposable thumbs, I've always had a relatively easier time with Tree Tops. The supercharges aren't all too bad, once you remember how the level is layered. In fact, I praise it for being one of the more challenging levels within Spyro 1.
