Life in Bulgaria as a Bulgarian isn't as breezy and what seems like a great price for a foreigner is just... reasonable enough for us. I am very glad that you compared and shared opinion about the the Greek Yoghurt and the Feta (Greek origin too) with our Sour Milk (Кисело Мляко) and White Brine Cheese (Бяло саламурено сирене). Most people living in the English speaking countries think those are the same, but these are quite different, especially the Sour Milk. It can not be compared to yoghurt because yoghurt is a little sweetened and is not made with the Lactobacilicus Bulgaricus bacteria which can not exist naturally in other conditions anywhere around the world, but here. This is why as your friend said, you need to take another sour milk and mix it with the plain milk in order to prepare a homemade Sour Milk. The White Cheese is also different from the Feta because it has much more butter and when it is stored in the proper brine it is softer and not that dry as a Feta cheese.
So happy I found your channel. I’m wanting to come to Eastern Europe and was planning on going to Tbilisi or Batumi Georgia but now I’m thinking Bulgaria will be my first destination. I’m in Canada and can’t wait to come there.
People have been selling their properties here in Bulgaria during the pandemic when they couldn't come in person with a power of attorney and other relevant papers being sent via courier so i don't think heirs being abroad is the problem. Many of these buildings in Varna are in a state of disrepair because they're architectural heritage monuments, meaning they're also of historical and cultural importance. All of that makes them super hard to renovate because of how much documentation, time and money it's needed to get all of the necessary permits and to actually do the renovation. Many of the owners just can't afford it. Of course, there are other reasons for their state as well, I just think this is one of the main ones :)

On the other hand, when I drive, I hate it when people just stand next to a zebra crossing looking at the street without intention to cross, so I'm left wondering should I stop, are they about to cross or not? Often times when I do stop, people are just waving for me to go on driving, they'll wait or are not gonna cross. Sadly, bulgarians have very poor driving culture (bicycles and e-bikes on sidewalks and squares too). When driving abroad they are law abiding proper drivers, but when the same people go back to BG, they start behaving like madmen thinking they are above the rest and above the law.

Well, because the Bulgarians who speak English almost always immediately switch to English and show very little patience with your C2 language skills. However, the Bulgarians who don't speak any English really do appreciate it when you speak with them and show respect for your efforts. It's an odd dichotomy, but this has been my experience.

Varna is very interesting. I'm sure you know it means "crow" in Latvian. Wonder if it means anything in Bulgarian? I'm a yogurt lover too, especially kefir, with fruit.
The name isnt based on the word crow but it almost means the same thing. The olden word for "crow" in bulgarian is "vrana". The one most used now is "garvan". :)
Varna is named after the Polish King Vladislav Varnenchik and supreme duke of Lithuania who fought the Ottoman empire and in 1444 reaches what we today know as Varna. The old name of Varna is Odesos. In Bulgarian language Varna does not mean crow but the world is similar -Vrana.
@@Anatoligg It's the other way around. Varna has had its name since the early middle ages. Wladyslaw III took the name Warnenczyk only after the Battle of Varna.

Houses are empty and disintegrating, simply because they have been inherited by too many owners, and they differ in their intentions on what to do with the property. If they all want the same thing it is usually not that hard to prepare the documents and sell or renovate the property. Please keep on showing the crappy sidewalks and streets, and all the needless railings on the streets. Those are maintained by only a select few companies that have close ties to local politicians, and they are getting good money for the crappy job that they do. At some places sidewalks are so narrow and uncomfortable and on top of that they put stupid poles on the sidewalk that take like about 30% to 50% of the width. As far as infrastructure is concerned, making better roads, or even providing electricity and water and sewage to new built properties, especially those in the outskirts of the city, there is a lot more to wish.
To be honest, I have never met more arrogant, aggressive and rude women than English women! I have traveled more than half the world as a sailor and that's why I know what I'm talking about ...! And their appearance is stunning ..! Compared to them, Bulgarian women are at a very high level both in demeanor and appearance ..!
Whose appearance is "stunning" ??? The one of the "British Women"??? Also "Stunning" when referring to a woman means that she's really beautiful, gorgeous etc. I'm not quite sure this is what you actually meant.
Burgers...tomatoes...kebabs...cheese...dogs on boards....point out places/bars where there are pretty women!!! Where can we go to meet beautiful women when we are longer in Varna? THANKS
@@J.E.E The normal tourist nightlife is well known and rather boring in Varna! In the discos massively prudish and in private the women try everything! The Bulgarian men do not get good grades from their wives and the divorce rate has its reason...! Am curious about the next videos! Truly....
Some of the observations are mostly depending on the region and city. Zebras in Sofia aren't useless and drivers in the coastal towns are much more aggressive. Especially in Burgas for example. Locals from Sofia are amazed how when going to a holiday at the coastline people wait at the zebras and are waiting for you instead of the driver waiting for them. This doesn't happen in Sofia anymore and isn't an issue there. In Plovdiv and other cities also. Not every "misery" and "issue" is universal for the whole country. Like Varna for example - still being controlled by the mafia and having issues with them, it's the only remaining city in Bulgaria being a bit stuck in the 90s. Almost everything controlled by the local organisation and business owners having fear from them. Crime levels in Varna are higher than Sofia which is five times bigger.
I don't like Sofia more Varna or Burgas and the drivers are nice you just need to make eye contact and you're good to go and cities are save i don't know what mafia you're talking about you sound like a player hater

@@ГеоргиСтатев-л6о Thank you!
@@ГеоргиСтатев-л6о Врана(Crow) and Гарван(Raven) are two different species, not same bird.
Hello friend! when you have time go to a restaurant with name ГЮРЛАТА and ask to give you a chicken soup the price is not much about 3 bulgarian lev i think you will like it and will find the difference between our chicken soup ( by the way the meat rolls ( under 1 lev price ) are delicious too they are in ГЮРЛАТА too and when you visit the grocery store ask for we call it here Горнооряховски суджук about 5 bulgarian lev it is produced only in Gorna oryahovica city it is very delicious they bring it in Varna with trucks the distance between Gorna oryahovica and Varna is about 200 km 3 hours trip with a car ) and the British traditional chicken soup which i bought once when i visit UK i bought it from Portsmouth :)
Hello mate and thank you for your comment,
I love the tips and I will be sure to try them when I am back in Varna.
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍👌
If you're still around hit me up - I`ll bring you to try the best mekitsi in Varna :)
Hi Jhon,
Sorry mate bit I have left, but would love to meet up on my next trip?!?
Are you permanently in Varna?
Of course you the Brits would have such an attitude towards the immigrants and Brits being immigrants themselves, also marked with the corresponding words. It is easily explainable because you are also notorious for your double standards and the continuing imperial illnes of the old times. I know it hurts a bit, but I do not hold any bad intensions when expressing this opinion.
Thank you for your insight.
History is complex understanding and learning from it is what is important, not so much the fact that it may hurt
Hey I love this video but just a constructive tip, next time a microphone for the guest would work better
Hello mate,
Thank you for the feedback... Noted for future colabs👍👌
hello, very good video. i travel to eastern europe, i like it... and my next trip includes riga talin and latvia, You have helped me a lot. If you want to come to Guadalajara in Mexico. you will be welcome
I wouldn't expect much from riga esp. in comparison to gdl. use the opportunity to travel to valmiera up north, and estonia. helsinki is a very friendly city. riga is not, they are very unfriendly, unhappy and hostile, think chilangos. btw gdl is my fav city in mexico.

Hello Justin my friend👋 How is it in Varna? 🇧🇬
Hi Petter,
As you know I love the place and would recommend you come over for a visit!!! You won't be disappointed 👍👌
the fact is that the first golden treasure was discovered in Varna
Guys I’m half Bulgarian and you are making it sound better than it is.
Plus the prices you mention for restaurant are completely untrue unless you go to absolutely awful ones that no normal human should ever visit.
It definitely is much cheaper than Western Europe but not as cheap as you claim if you want to visit actual good restaurants.
man u need to try street chefs the best burgers in the whole world :D
Hi.
Noted and will try it as soon as I am back in Varna.

Hi Mario,
Thank you for your input and tips, always appreciated as I love Bulgarian cuisine.

Thank you Lyubomir for your input.
I will do what I can and maybe one day they will update the orange communist garbage cans too😂👌👍
Well guys, that was supposed to stay a secret...

@@redpillbulgaria-v2.063 Exactly..! Maybe it is more correct to say "neglected appearance" !?
I am a fan of Bulgaria, that is for sure 👍👌

Ясене, какви са тия измислени "факти"? Я виж статистиката за престъпността! Излагаш си с всичко написано от теб!
@@АнаДадалова Видял съм я. Вие видяхте ли я? Знаете ли къде дори да я намерите?
I don't like Sofia more Varna or Burgas and the drivers are nice you just need to make eye contact and you're good to go and cities are save i don't know what mafia you're talking about you sound like a player hater
