    I saw -43.5 last Nov in Tok, Ak… my S2 D2L purred all night… be sure your fuel has antigel in it BEFORE you get into cold conditions… most gas stations change to #1 in the Fall in northern locations…

    At 3:50 you say that you have a full install video but I don't see it anywhere on your website or on your subscription page... can you provide a link?

    FYI the thermostat portion that reads temp is actually in the unit itself, monitors intake temp and that’s how it satisfies, also if u are having fuel delivery problems u can get a fuel pump heater , they should some with it …. Trust me it’s cold in Canada!!

    Great video! Loved the workshop menu pro tip.
    I’ve run my S2/D2 in -19F in Wyoming and it started up first try!
    I’ll add two other pro tips:
    1) If you have less than 1/4 diesel in your van, the heater will either not start or end up shutting down soon after turning it on. The auxiliary fuel line on the Sprinter stops providing fuel to auxiliary devices like heaters in order to not leave you stranded (also running the heater with a low tank causes air bubbles in the lines).
    2) when using your heater at higher elevations (6k ft or higher), the air:fuel mixture will be affected, which can cause the filter in the heater to get more clogged up. A good way to extend the life of the heater is to run a high temperature 20-30 minute heat cycle when you return to lower elevations (I set mine at 80F for 30min).
    I’m a big fan of these heaters and wouldn’t buy anything else, with good care they will last a very long time and be super reliable!
    P.S. nice shirt Jeremy ;)

      Awesome comment and thanks for the other Pro Tips! I hadn't heard of running the unit after returning to lower elevations to reduce fuel filter issues, but that will now be part of my standard operating procedures. Also- thanks for mentioning about the fuel tank level.
      I've got a long-sleeve Van Land shirt with you name on it! Actually it has our name on it but it will be yours next time we see you GG. Until then, stay warm my friends!

      So you're saying the newer sprinters have an extra fuel line coming from the tank? I've watched some install videos where they have to lower the fuel tank and insert their fuelline into the tank. I'm assuming those were older sprinters.

    • @VanLand
      @VanLand  3 роки тому +2

      Yes the new sprinters have and aux fuel adapter.

    Does anyone know if the performance is affected by altitude like the Webasto heaters?

    • @dmwi1549
      @dmwi1549 2 роки тому

      Newer models D2 are supposed to operate at high altitude by automatic adjustment within controller.
      Older units did not have that capability.

    Why isn't it near the battery and the water tank to keep those warm for the winter?

    • @VanLand
      @VanLand  2 роки тому

      This is the recommended location. It will heat the whole van so the batteries and water tank will stay warm. You don’t want it close to those components.

    I have this heater in our caravan in Australia, we regularly get -2 to -4 on outback trips. I do put a diesel additive in the tank but it will still thicken to a point that the unit won’t start.
    This happened a few days ago and now (I’m home) the unit will only run for a few minutes then shut down with the h1 air error. I’ve cleared the code but am wondering if the fuel filter is gummed up? Would love any advise.
    Thanks

    What would heat my 37 ft coach. 12 v. Looking for a diesel heter. I.own a 8dm planar. Sounds the same but non of the thermostats they sent ever control the temperature cycling off and on.

  • @jamestreanor182
    @jamestreanor182 Рік тому

    John, regarding the freezing, I am guessing this is a norcal issue where diesel never has antigel added in Santa Rosa, but when you go to Tahoe you need it. Might want to find an antigel additive before heading up the mountain, or refueling in Auburn or Placerville on the way (but then it will be a dilution issue as well).

    I’ve got an aux battery under my passenger seat from the factory. 2019 170. Would u recommend removing that battery in favor of the Espar, or installing the Espar elsewhere in the van?

    • @VanLand
      @VanLand  3 роки тому +1

      Great question- we've run into this many times before! In my opinion, I would move the battery. The passenger seat base is just such a perfect location to install the Espar. I also struggle to find other suitable locations to install the Espar since it has to go directly through the van's floor with no other flooring materials underneath. The battery on the other hand can go many places or potentially be removed. Thanks again!

    Excellent, clear vlog. You should have added the warning/maintenance for carbon build up. These units stop when there’s carbon build up. Unit needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Also does this unit automatically adjust altitude settings? Cheers from Canader eh!

  • @dmwi1549

    I would like to know the best way to minimize carbon build up while running heater for extended periods of time.
    I’d rather not get up every couple hours to turn it on.
    And the temp setting only goes down to 59f which is more heat than is needed in a well insulated 170 Sprinter overnight for use in the infinity mode. ♾
    I’ve seen: “Low Heat” in the menu that I want to investigate.
    Unlike two years ago, You can’t get a return phone call from Eberspacher or the local dealer in Michigan any more.
    Has ANYONE had experience with this?
