YankeeSpirit if it's applicable though. not all the time it's sweet to use UTP/ethernet cable.. yes it's way faster than wireless but some times you need wireless even if you are near to the router..
Wow, your kind of explaining is probably what everybody should be listening to. No more fancy animations, just a great way of explanation. A thumb and a sub from me. Keep doing this pls.
but what if you get 7.4ghz? like combine 2.4ghz and 5ghz pro by spinning the wireless router antenna clockwise 2.4 x 360 degree = 864 degree! on a 5ghz wireless router if you use the 2.4ghz wireless router then spin it 5 x 360 degree = 1800 degree clockwise too i tried it and it work!
Another possible disadvantage for a 5-GHz band is that there might be devices that have only 2.4 GHz wifi adapters so they don't even "see" 5 GHz. It was a case for me today at work when we changed the band of one of our APs (it is supposed to be used by only one device though and it's not an "Internet AP" or whatever) from 2.4 to a 5 GHz one and I was unable to see the SSID anymore, also scanning the wifi ranges wouldn't show me any bands in the 5 GHz range as if there were none (and I know there were a couple of them, just saw them on a laptop of my coworker).
You don't necessarily have less range with 5 GHZ. 2.4 GHz Routers are allowed to send with up to 500mW, whereas 5 GHz Routers are allowed up to 2000mW. (Depends on Country) That means, you have a Frequency half the Wavelength, but 4x the Power. I get More Range with 5GHz.
All my neighbors seem to be using the lower end of WiFi channels (they have the channel selection on automatic). So it was a good move to use a higher-end channel on manual.
I have just normal Ethernet to my pc so that's not an issue. And some Access Points are just as expensive as the repeaters. So I decided to go with that since it doesn't need to overlap with an existing WiFi network.
Good video, sort of took forever to get to where you describe the advantages of 2.4Ghz. It really has much better range and you can play with the channels there too even know they overlap.
Thanks bro, you helped me a lot understanding the channels. I had no idea what the broadcast channels meant. Do you recommend leaving the broadcast channel in AUTO-SELECT?
one thing i noticed while looking for a new router is no description EVER puts the statistics of the distance that the specific router can offer, I UNDERSTAND that its not a science, there are variables, walls of different densities air ducts, whos around you, what devices are around you, I GET IT!! but that they cant give even an estimate in ideal conditions? i mean, even tire companies will tell you how well their winter tires stop a car on ice at 60mph compared to the competator, come on, give me somethign to work with, one said "EXTENDED RANGE!!" well, what was the initial range? help me out here linksys/cisco/d-link, fuck me...
Simple: 2.4 GHz Advantage Range [Has interference issues since many other devices use this carrier frequency] 5 GHz Advantage Speed [Dis-advantge Range - solved with extenders] Bell is expensive and has a monopoly in Canada but they do offer twice the speed of the fastest US providers at this point in time. Get the New Home Hub 3000 with Bell in Canada - 12 antennas/ tri-band tech/ total speeds up to 1 Gbps, It’s perfect for simultaneous usage of multiple connected devices: smartphones, laptops, tablets, gaming consoles and more.
Not entirely like in your area you will get at least 15 wifi network 1 of it is yours most if them will be if Chanel 1 to 10 there will always be one channel no one is using you can set your router to that channel and you are good to go
If you have a job (not YT but you now what I mean) you will earn, for one person, $1,000 for every 2 weeks. So Joe is actually earning way less a month than a person here should.
Can you reference the time stamp for that? I'm guessing TheoJoe Tech makes $900 a month. A million sub channel probably makes a lot more...like 6 or 7 times more.
Vanilla_Donut Yeah, someone else. Sorry. "Theassortedgamer" mentioned something about how much "Dude" makes per month. I want to know when Theo said that...which would be a time stamp. Perhaps he was referencing someone else.
This is like explaining life. No matter what, just about everything is gonna have some good and some bad outcome. Especially if you like to post alot on social media.
Although this is a few years old, I have been using AX for a short while. I saw for a short while because it was only recent I saw an AX router for $129.99 + tax (6%) here in the USA. It is a TP-Link too so it is a reputable brand, not one of those bizarre Walmart or Target store brands which I have no clue who made them really. I am not after gaming routers with RGB lights or anything like that but I also don't buy brands that are store exclusives, they may be cheaply made and some of them have weird names that make no sense to me. I am usually looking for good deals like if I see one I know is really good and it is on sale, I might get one of them.
One other major problem is not all devices support 5GHz yet. So they are limited to 2.4GHz since it's standard. This is another reason why 2.4GHz is crowded. I have 3 laptops and only 1 has 5GHz capability. We all have smartphones. My wife and I are the only phones with 5GHz. My kids is limited to 2.4GHz.
***** I was just kidding, of course I know it's not free and nor does it double the speed, just thought it was a bit similar to the fake internet videos he does :)
I would say it's faster, using 2.4ghz bandwidth it's hard to reach the speeds that a speed test will show you, but when using the 5ghz bandwidth it reaches it and really quick, also packet loss and issues with ping was basically erased when i switched.
I live in an apartment and I'm using 2.4Ghtz should I use 5ghtz and also my apartment house does is small and not that many rooms so is 5ghtz the best choice?
I find that 2.4 is faster and has a much larger range. I have 2.4 and 5 in one router. The 5 can dualidad thing extremely quickly but is terrible for gaming and normal use. Generally, I use 2.4, but when I download, I use the 5. That's my opinion.
i keep both signals on. some of my devices can't pick up a 5ghz wifi signal, my cell phone and printer for example only picks up 2.4ghz wifi signals , but my tv, laptop, desktop, xbox one and blu ray player can pick up 5ghz wifi signals. so it's really a mix bag inregards to what wireless devices can use what, which is why i keep both on.
My Xbox One S recently keeps losing internet connection quickly then reconnecting even though the signal strength was above 80% when on the 5GHz WiFi. Oddly this doesn't happen with any other device I own including an origanal Xbox One I tested with. I tried changing the 'channel' of the default gateway which fixed an interference issue I was having with my wireless A50 headset but no luck with the Xbox One S. Point is one solution I found was using the 2.4GHz WiFi instead.
That is a great video to understand what 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. I had a problem with my internet a few days ago and the internet provider sent me a technician to solve the issue. The technician replaced all cables and also did some changes to my modem settings (such as changing from 2.4 GHz -->5.0ghz). Everything seemed good as it should at the beginning but on the night of the day, we realized that my wife's Lenovo laptop doesn't see our home wi-fi network even it recognizes the others. Our phones also don't get signals from the box (Arris SBG6580 modem&router combo) in our bedroom. Can you help me with it? Thank you very much.
My community is stuck using 1 internet company that's terrible.. since I upgraded to 50gb internet speed.. the 2.4g wifi does not work at all. But the 5g wifi is working.. this company has tried for months trying to fix our 2.4g with no success.. if only my area is allowed to have bell or Roger's or any of the big conpanies
Good morning... I am presently using 2.4 ghz, 802.11n optical fiber modem router... I want to go for 802.11ac 5ghz router... For my home... Dual band.... Can u please help me out is this option fine? Also is the data shared by the antennas of the router? What is the case with dual band router 2.4 ghz and 5ghz? How much is shared between them if I am using 50 mbps speed of Internet
does typical laptop and smartphones support 5ghz connectivity? because we have fiebr connection and a modem router that broadcast 2.5ghz and 5ghz wifi names. but i disabled 5ghz because im not familiar with it LOL. so does typical smartphone can easily connect to that 5ghz wifi?
I ordered a camera from Amazon. My Wi-Fi says 2.4G and 5G... my camera works only with 2.4G is it still ok to connect it to my WiFi??? Cuz I tried my best still I got an issue and I'm not sure if the problem is with my WiFi or the Camera?
my xbox is about 14 feet away from my dual band router. I tried hooking up ethernet but it just doesn't reach. so I use wifi. I recently split it into 2.4 and 5 and I connected mt xbox to the 5ghz signal. yet whenever I play nba 2k17 or bf1 my game lags really bad... keep in mind this is around midnight when everyone's asleep. is there something wrong with my xbox?
But wait, what if you had one router broadcast in 5gz and then connect to it with a pc and then host a 2.4ghz in a hostednetwork from that pc going to another pc. Would the data be just slower, or would it somehow affect the packets and when you are like watching this video its all garbled up.
I am using optical fiber broadband Internet connection. Now If I use 802.11ac router then will i create 5ghz signal. For that do i need to inform my isp? Is there any way to know my connection is 2.4ghz or 5 ghz?
I am trying to connect a Smart wall light Switch to Alexa. my wifi has both 2.4GH and 5GH. user manual for switch says I need 2.4GH. Is it ok if my wifi has both. Im having problems connecting the switch to alexa and just wondering. Thanks
Imagine your download speed goes down cause your dad is heating up his pizza rolls.
lol
Big lol
Bigger lol
Biggest lol

If you're close to the router, use an ethernet cable.
Yep, I always plug the ethernet cable into my phone for fast and reliable internet! Fucking genius!
Solid Chrome I hear apple makes an adapter for that.
that drains your battery twice as fast
YankeeSpirit if it's applicable though. not all the time it's sweet to use UTP/ethernet cable.. yes it's way faster than wireless but some times you need wireless even if you are near to the router..
Solid Chrome *I think he meant plug a wired access point/router/repeater using a Ethernet cable you dope so the signal is better where you are at*
Thanks Michael cera

what kind of camera and lens are you using? looks so clean!
Wow, your kind of explaining is probably what everybody should be listening to. No more fancy animations, just a great way of explanation. A thumb and a sub from me. Keep doing this pls.
I looked this up ages ago, but im glad you explained it

i tried it and it work!
does it work in india?
DylonxD just try it!
oh btw remember to eat before doing this little hax
Sega Hen I cant try it, I need somebody to test it for me. Also I dont have food in my home, that might be a problem.
DylonxD you better try it soon or else...... the joke gonna run out xD
Thanks! it worked! I'm able download porn videos 100mb+ in an instant
an answer to a question I didnt know i needed.. thank you. great vid!

We just upgraded our router/modem & it's dual band. I also recently purchased the PS4 slim which uses the 5GHz bandwidth.
thanks, meant to look into this myself but you did a pretty great job of it.
You don't necessarily have less range with 5 GHZ.
2.4 GHz Routers are allowed to send with up to 500mW, whereas 5 GHz Routers are allowed up to 2000mW. (Depends on Country)
That means, you have a Frequency half the Wavelength, but 4x the Power.
I get More Range with 5GHz.
Samster Birdies Okey, i guess? If you are into that stuff. But good luck not getting caught!
I think it's a combination of frequency and amount of power for range?
can it penetrate through walls? my room gets only 1-2 bar with my current 2.4ghz
Thanks for the info.
PS... You were GREAT in Superbad!!!
All my neighbors seem to be using the lower end of WiFi channels (they have the channel selection on automatic). So it was a good move to use a higher-end channel on manual.
Makes Sense thanks man!😊
Thio Joe you are very informative. It's also a switch from your joke vids a while ago, which still taught people. Thanks for another useful vid.
it has become so difficult to trust this man!
You can clearly see when he is faking and when not. Use your brain
PS: He is not faking in this video.
WOW! thanks smartass :|
No problem dumbass
his trolls on the other channel 'ThioJoe' not this one 'ThioJoeTech'. hope u will not be confused next time
he only does the trolling on his main channel on that channel his channel description says he does humorous videos
If you live in a urban or suburban area then you probably suffer from interference from your neighbors.
I bought 5 GHZ adapters because the 2.4 GHZ spectrum was sooooo crowded.
Another reason why "going wireless" is a bad idea, just fuck Iphone 7! :P
lol. my house is a bit remote so only 3 wifi popped out with 2.4ghz
kenny ricardo Poor people's problems...or rich people problems...you decide.
Yep
Great video short and to the point with good info!
If signal strength is the problem you can also consider buying an access point and place it in the dead zone.
Or a signal extender.
I don't have good experiences with extenders. They do work but not as good.
Jeroen V Shame. I use a wireless extender to connect Ethernet to my PC, and it works for me.
I have just normal Ethernet to my pc so that's not an issue. And some Access Points are just as expensive as the repeaters. So I decided to go with that since it doesn't need to overlap with an existing WiFi network.

thanks for the translition
Thanks bro, you helped me a lot understanding the channels. I had no idea what the broadcast channels meant. Do you recommend leaving the broadcast channel in AUTO-SELECT?
short, clear and nice.
Very nice explanation, however, you should also have linked it to MIMO Antennas since we are talking about a wireless technology
Thank you so........... much this was so helpful and much needed. 🙏🏾
Useful info.Thanks joe!
Good man, always interesting and well researched. Reminds me of my past..... at the begin of the Internet.
one thing i noticed while looking for a new router is no description EVER puts the statistics of the distance that the specific router can offer, I UNDERSTAND that its not a science, there are variables, walls of different densities air ducts, whos around you, what devices are around you, I GET IT!! but that they cant give even an estimate in ideal conditions? i mean, even tire companies will tell you how well their winter tires stop a car on ice at 60mph compared to the competator, come on, give me somethign to work with, one said "EXTENDED RANGE!!" well, what was the initial range? help me out here linksys/cisco/d-link, fuck me...

Bell is shit where I am, lazy bastards won't even bring me the speeds im willing to pay for
So what you are saying is that the 5 GHz disadvantage is the range, but if you buy wifi extenders then that can solve the problem?
is there any other frequencies other than 2.4 and 5?
Yes, but they're not used for WiFi

bottom line - 2.4Ghz was maxing out at 40Mbps. Spectrum guy told me to use 5G and now I am 110Mbps on 100Mbs connection.
Great explanation.
I guess I'm lucky because my Sky Q router can use 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz simultaneously
can you do a video about the differences in speed when it comes to hz range (20hz, 40hz, 80hz and the new 160hz).
Excellent help, Thank you
Great video I got my answer.
Are mbps and ghz the same? How are they different from one another? What internet do i need for playing online game like dota2, LOL etc?
For faster internet you need faster internet package 100% works
Yes but there are settings to change to make the current internet run more efficiently. People just confuse it with speed
This is absolutely not true 🙈

Is it better to buy a wireless router or wifi adapter?
Do these bands refer to an actual wifi network? Like, is each band wether 2.4 or 5 a separate wifi network?
Do you know any smart wifi plugs that works with 5ghz wifi ?
Thx Man Keep making videos. Really a good help!
Show us your computer setup, I've been dying to see what else you have besides that crispy 5960x. Throw a little thio joe spice in there

I can Barely Take this guy Seriously ! He trolled Me Like 4 years Ago🤦🏾♂️😂😩
Well that explains why my 5GHz is about half the speed as my 2.4GHz. It has to pass through like 4 walls & it's about 20 feet away from the router.
So the device needs to be AC compatible to take advantage of 5.4Ghz? ... Do you think my new (2017) Sony Smart TV uses 5.4Ghz AC?
Thank you so much
I get 2.2MB/s using 2.4GHz and 3.3MB/s using 5GHz so for fast connections 5GHz is much better
if you are watching this guy , make sure it says ThioJoeTech. not ThioJoe right, Thio?
Have 5g and 2.4... I bought a altec smart speaker with security cam and it only runs on 2.4 and won't connect
Well put

I am trying to connect a Smart wall light Switch to Alexa. my wifi has both 2.4GH and 5GH. user manual for switch says I need 2.4GH. Is it ok if my wifi has both. Im having problems connecting the switch to alexa and just wondering. Thanks
What was the thing behind the headphone? Cause I have seen other places and I don't have any idea.
So use the 2.4 for mobile devices and 5 for stationary media devices near the router. Got it. Just realized my modem kicks out 2 gateways....

where are xono hertz routers (xono comes after yotta which comes after zetta which comes after exa which comes after peta which comes after tera)
thanks for information
