A lot of people bag on this guy, and frankly I don't think it's deserved. The ultimate goal of karate is improvement and attempted mastery of one's self. True mastery is unattainable, yet you should always try to improve. Some people have physical/athletic limitations. Everyone's goal should be to make themselves the best karateka that they are capable of being. One of the beautiful aspects of karate is that you can tailor it to fit your abilities as you age. I am 49 now, and I just cannot perform Kwanku at full speed and power like I did when I was 18. I can't perform Gankaku with the balance and precision anymore like I could back then either. I still do those katas, but I only do them for myself. As I have gotten older Meikyo has become my favorite kata. It's not a physically demanding kata at all, but it's very nuanced. I like to think of it as a Taikyoku kata for black belts. It truly gives you everything you need and nothing you don't.
Osu William, I bagain Shotokan Karate in 1982 as a karate-ka, I gained my first blackbelt (shodan) in 1995. While I was training in a regular team, I also participated in training in Hombodojo in Denmark. I joined the national team and became elite coach. I gained 5th. dan in the year 1999. So you have to give alot to became 5th. dan. Hope this help.
Hangetsu JKA and Hangetsu Funakoshi (the original) are different, this version is near JKA. The original kata doesn't have the position Hangetsu, there uses the position Zenkutsu and instead of Kokutzu dachi uses Kiba dachi

Certainly not stupid nor nasty....just true full. The performers stances are not only weak but so show poor dachi understanding. In slow motion,you can clearly see there is no real Kime, very little power from hip rotation and bad timing generally, etc..etc...etc. As mentioned in my original comment I do not wish any disrespect. They are based on training at The Infamous Takushoku Diagaku,Tokyo in '72 for ten brutal weeks and in '75 for four years. What's your CV in Karate - Do ?

Dont think that this is right. 1.: why Funakoshi called it Hangetsu?
2.: Originally it was Sanchin Dachi.
