      You have to meet certain thresholds to be able to be a finalist, so if a player doesn't meet the games played or innings at that specific position they won't qualify and then someone else less skillful at that position who did meet the innings then gets put in their place. Plus a coaches vote is a part of this and you can't vote for your guys on your own team, but unless a guy is in the division you play and therefore see semi-regularly you may see a guy 3 times all year and if they happen to make a diving grab you could have that stuck in your mind despite not seeing all the mistakes the other 159 games.

    The sad part about Crawford as a Giants fan was that he was obviously battling injuries and still played - and once he took his IL break and recovered he started to look back to his regular form in the last 3 months of the season :(. One thing to mention about Max Muncy... take a look at his month by month stats. He started terrible and stayed terrible for a long time (OPS hovered in this high .500s from April to July) but then really improved after that, with an OPS of around .900 for August and September. He will most likely bounce back in 2023.

  • @mmachad1
    @mmachad1 Рік тому +62

    J.T Realmuto's amazing season is really interesting because he started the year really slow and I mean REALLY slow. He was a below average hitter until about July and then I think he reverted back to his old leg kick and just started absolutely raking. There was a statistic that said he had the second best slugging percentage since around July or August through September next to Aaron Judge because he was just going off.

    Max Muncy, in my opinion, is absolutely going to bounce back next season. If you take a look at his month-to-month splits on Baseball Reference, you'll see he started to round back into form in August and September. Plus his plate discipline and good eye are just things you cannot take away with injury. He still walks at an elite rate.

    Just remember JT Realmuto really didn’t get his season going until he called $267,000 “a little bit of money.” Then he realized he was never going to hear the end of that unless he started to go on a tear and good for him coming through while Harper was out of the lineup. And there’s a swing and a miss on a pitch two feet outside of the zone by Castellanos for a strike out.

    Some insight on Springer for those who read this for some reason.
    Springer was playing with a bum elbow for a good amount of the season. Around the all star break his power dropped drastically and he was clearly playing through a good amount of pain which became extremely apparent towards the end of the season. He's getting elbow surgery and should be back for the start of next year.
    Springer is also probably getting moved to a corner outfield spot and will spend a good amount of the season at DH in an attempt to keep him healthy and to keep his bat in the lineup. DH will most likely be a combination of Kirk (if he's still a Blue Jay) and Springer as Jansen in the much better game caller and a great hitter (best on the Blue Jays last season lol) but I expect him to get rested a lot as he's suffered many injuries throughout his career (although most of them freak injuries).
    Springer will still bat leadoff. I seriously doubt that they move him out of that spot even if they do go and get someone like Nimmo. He has a great veteran presence and really helps set the tone of the game. Also worth noting is that the Blue Jays lineup looks absolutely dead without Springer there.
    I'll add more if I think of anything worth noting

    54:34 this is what i have a big issue with when talking about Ohtani. he doesnt play more than other players. he appears in barely enough innings to be considered a Cy Young candidate (which he would probably win if he had 200 innings, but he never pitches that much), and he only DH's, meaning he only appears in half games where he doesnt pitch. based on innings, he plays just more than half the amount of game time as any starting position player in baseball. yes he is insane, a top 10 player every single year of his career, but he doesnt play as much as you say he does, not even close

    Curious where you would rank Rodón? I feel he was underrated this season in the Cy Young race and even amongst his peers during the first round of All-Star Game rosters. How much weight would you put in his move to Yankee Stadium/AL East for future projection?

    I malign Gerrit Cole because he’s a man who’s paid 35+ million a year to throw a ball and has so little character as to bitch about how hard it is to grip the ball when he can’t use spider tack, and do it at a press conference where’s he’s legit about to start crying. Dude…wtf?

    You getting pwned on Nolan Arenado is glorious and also unbecoming of you, Bailey. Dude has been the most consistent and durable offensive third baseman for a decade while also being arguably the best defensive player in the league (any position) OPS+d a 119 in his first season with the redbirds with his defense (elite production in a down year). It's always tough to transition to a different, and now he literally showed what he is. A future first ballot HOFer

    While Muncy's 2022 was not a top 50 season, he performed much much better down the stretch. The bounceback kinda already happened but is covered up by the bad numbers early in the year, easily attributable to still recovering from injury

  • @pieterhoekstra6826
    @pieterhoekstra6826 Рік тому +2

    Why use FIP (and thus fWAR) to talk about a guy like Urias, who has great hard contact suppression? The job of a pitcher is to get outs and not give up runs, Urias gets outs and doesn't give up runs. The fact that soft contact involves defense doesn't mean that producing soft contact isn't a skill. And the fact that FIP is more predictive than ERA isn't really relevant for assessing what a player *actually did* this year. If a guy hits .400 on BABIP luck, he still had an all-time great offensive season!

    I'm new here so please let me know if you've done this.... Since you did a top 50 pick and a how you did video you should do a video of the actual top 50 of the year vid. Thank you.
