@@buckdog2005Honestly I think you really did, I’ve seen a lot more criticism in just the past year or two compared to before they broke up. They never reached the top but they 100% made a splash when they came out of nowhere.
Fair. Matt's solo effort leaves more to be desired, but it definitely showed what he's wanting to explore sonically. Pretty good for a debut after BH. I personally enjoyed this more than any other solo BH release after disbanding.
It may be worth considering this a joint Dijon / Matt record. A lot of the production is the same style as 2020-21 Dijon, and he also has writing credits on the majority of tracks.
Completely agree with this one. I am really enjoying it but there is just a little something missing to take it to the next level. Really excited for what's next. I think we are gonna see him grow a lot.
just happy the BH bois are putting things out there - its interesting also to just see them each evolve on their own as well, looking forward to seeing how they each move forward.
I loved this record. I think its the best solo material from one of the boys yet, and I loved Arizona Baby especially. Matt is so versatile, and you can hear it all over this with his wildly creative ideas. Slug is one of my favorite songs of the year thus far, imo an 8 at least.
He can't really sing but he isn't really trying to sing on the record. It's just E/experimental but laid back on the same time. I wish he returns to rapping too :(
There's something so uniquely amateur about the guys from BH that was a originally an endearing quality but now that they're solo its beginning to bite them in the ass. They documented so much of their creative process during their early days and you can almost witness how they went from normal guys to cult icons. It really highlights how HK, Romil and Kevin were able to synthesize the greatness of each performer and mitigate their weaknesses
matt mentioned that him and the main producer of this album focused on using the rawness of the first couple takes, and letting it sit without over editing the tracks, which I think sadly is why a lot of the songs fizzle out and lack structure. love this album tho, my fav post BH release!
I've really enjoyed it this album so far. think it shows so much promise like you say. like he's experimenting with different sounds post BH and seeing what flies.
Id never heard of Brockhampton or Matt Champion until I randomly got graced with the algorithm landing me on Slug. That song got into my soul. Now Matt Champion is on my radar.
I pretty much agree with most points. Def not a flawless album but it lays out a lot of good groundwork for whats to come in his career and honesty getting the solo material from different members makes me less sad about the breakup
This album is a meandering interlude that has interludes. I like a lot of the sounds and some of the pop inspirations, but there isn't enough to chew on.
Not only was it bad, it was bad in a painfully boring way. Reviewing it would've been such a pain in the ass, and since it came out around the same time as a bunch of other good stuff, I'm unsurprised he'd skip it
Sir a TDE artist dropped his 1st album in 5 years , I think you would enjoy it Fantano . You don’t do a review on his last album (Chasing Summer) which was a 10/10

i’m really loving this album but i totally get this review. usually ill listen to an album as a whole and then pick off some singles for my monthly playlist but that wasn’t the case for this one. i feel like this is an album that (for the most part) i’ve continued to listen to as a whole. while that’s honestly a rare compliment from me, i think that’s also due to me needed to here to collective piece in order to feel fully satisfied. i don’t like Gbiv tho, that one’s a skip for me. it’s sooo unstructured and really underwhelming, and stylistically stands out like a sore thumb. i’m sure it’ll be fun live, but it could of been so much more if he actually…rapped? crazy i know
good idea to have a flannel with multiple colors to confuse the audience
I personally think that this is the best solo material that we've gotten since they disboybanded. Hampton really nailed it with this one!

It’s no coincidence Dijon features on aphid, this whole album has similar sonic qualities that Dijon and his team produce.
Dijon has multiple writing credits on the album so it makes sense.
