Today, Tony Harris (BSME '75) is a successful entrepreneur in California. But in 1971, he was a kid from the south side of Chicago who wanted to be an engineer, but had never taken a calculus class. His experiences at Purdue led him and 5 other Boilermakers ("The Chicago Six") to form the National Society of Black Engineers, which now has more than 30,000 members in 350 chapters around the world. Thanks to the seeds planted at Purdue, and the efforts of NSBE today, a new generation of African Americans are realizing the benefits of a STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and a career in engineering.

I am a private math tutor at UNLV here in Las Vegas Nevada. I love every minute of it. Mathematics is becoming increasingly important in today's world due to increase in technology and information. The man in the video is an inspiration to me and others. I want to pursue my degree in mathematics. Every black child should know math and engineering in the United States. I am in my 40's still learning mathematics now and to the end. One should not be afraid to learn because it is exhilarating when you learn new things.
Proud to have went to High School with you. One Tony to another!
This is great! I can't wait to show this to my 7th grade Science classes!
Thank you for collecting and sharing this information. - UNLV NSBE 2021-2022 President Paul'Jacob Barney
Thank you very much for the legacy that you’ve built for us to follow.
I wish I had a source of communication like those guys
Legend
Don't rely to much on engineering software to draw and design, its not supppse to think for u. Don't be adversed to draw with pencil on paper to plan your design n do read them engineering journals.
Motivation I wish I could me the first man
