    I love Siser because they use polyurethane instead of polyvinyl chloride which causes acid and corrosion to the lasers. Their "vinyl" is laser safe and easy to weed but with the laser there is no weeding. I just wish I had a laser. We used one in our class to engravewood but the print Professor would not allow me to cut out vinyl because he didn't understand that it was safe to do so with Siser. This video is so awesome!

    Lisa this is Juan Carlos with all the comments that you have and congratulations that you made one person buy a glow Forge so that’s awesome congrats on that I think it would be interesting for you to do a live stream all to do with vinyl cutting on the glow Forge I don’t know what you feel thanks so much or do a combination of vinyl cutting around doing stuff on the silhouette I don’t know whatever you feel I ask you another question on what are your prices for 1 on 1 training your cast

      Sounds great! I have done a livestream with vinyl before, but it was a couple months ago and only on Facebook. I will see about adding it to the schedule!
      My 1 on 1's are $40 and hour and it comes with a recording and notes. Here's a link to it here: lisapottsdesigns.com/product/training-session/

    Awesome video, thanks! Question though, I have a glowforge as well, what are the settings you used when selecting unknown material? I've never lasered cut any vinyl so I have to to reference to. Thanks again!

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому

      I set the focus, then enter in the settings manually. I have them in the description. I believe 200/1 for EasyWeed and 250/12 for Glitter. But do test cuts for yourself before committing to an entire design!

    Hi
    Thanks for this awesome video. So you just flip the image and cut and the laser will only cut the vinyl part and the plastic part will be intact?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  2 роки тому

      Yes, correct. Just make sure to not cut too deep (less power).

  • @tarynfosterart9020
    @tarynfosterart9020 3 роки тому

    This was great to learn! I have been wondering what kind of vinyl would work. Thank you. I noticed your material type still said "unknown" -- my Glowforge doesn't register the artwork if the material is set on unknown. Do you set a material type or what?? Very curious about this. Thank you again for the information!

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Glad it was helpful! You can bypass this by "setting focus." Once you do that, you can choose settings with an unknown material.

    Lisa great video. Hard to find any using the GF.
    Have you done any engraving or Raster Ablation on the vinyl .
    Also have you used Brick 600 from Siser

    Lisa can you discuss why you picked that heat press?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Sure! I wanted an 15x15 press from a company I have worked with and trust. Also, I do not run a full-time apparel business, so I wanted a press more geared toward crafters. This press had the size, the drawer and the warranty that I liked. It was also white and I wanted a white press. haha

    I know I said last question but I just thought of another. What transfer tape is best used with that vinyl?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      This vinyl doesn't require it :) Siser HTV has a carrier sheet attached. You will cut the design reversed and with the shiny side (the carrier) facing down toward the crumb tray.

  • @risbill1
    @risbill1 3 роки тому

    Can you do a raster on the small parts so there's less to weed especially if doing several of the same design? It would basically just vaporize the vinyl.

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Definitely, but I have found when I have the laser on the vinyl TOO much, the color started leaking onto my blank.

  • @stephaniescreationsllc

    Quick question. Shiny side down when you are cutting on the glowforge.

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому

      Yep! You cut it on the same side as you normally would with a vinyl cutter.

    One last question sorry, I don't have a heat press, can I use a iron for small projects?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Absolutely. Just make sure to be careful with heat and pressure. If you are able to get one, a Cricut EasyPress is an awesome option. Better than an iron, but not as much or as much space as a heat press.

  • @personalemail3499
    @personalemail3499 2 роки тому

    Do you need to use a grip mat with glowforge as you do with cricut?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns

      No, but I use pins or magnets to hold down my vinyl!

    I am having a hard time getting the sister HTV to stick to my screen. I'm using the cotton settings on my home iron but it's still giving me issues. I don't have a heat press. Some of the vinyl even started to melt before it stuck. Any thoughts?

    This is so awesome thank you so much for giving us that instruction probably enjoy that my question is have you had any issues with the power at all have you seen any Panera what’s the weather or because you are at 12 and three depending on the power it all depends thanks so much and I will be reviewing the video once again when I’m doing it on my glow Forge love the video thank you

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Juan, so far I haven't had any issues with the power. I do live on a pretty stable power grid, so that helps. The only minor problem I have had is my Glowforge sometimes looses wifi connection, but that's an issue with my internet, not the machine.

    • @juan2617

      OK what type of residue do you see that the neighbor gives off because it’s that type of material one to you talk about that you gave one on one classes for designing courses how much do you charge thank you

    How hard would it have been to rotate the layout a little so one of the long sides of the design is parallel and as close as possible to the edge to save larger scraps of material?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  2 роки тому

      Not hard at all. Sometimes I get caught up on just doing steps, I miss the material saving side of my brain. 🤷‍♀️

    Lisa so is the glitter thicker material than the easy weed htv...is that why you have a higher setting

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  2 роки тому +1

      Yes! Just a bit more, so that's why I increased it a bit.

    Hi Lisa! Is there any adhesive vinyls that are laser safe?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  2 роки тому

      Hi Kyleen, at this point, I am not aware of any. Typically, a distinctive of vinyl is PVC, Siser is one of the outliers.

  • @christinareichhart2359
    @christinareichhart2359 2 роки тому

    Hi Lisa, is there one that you don't need heat. I'm trying to add it on wood.

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  2 роки тому

      Yes, decal vinyl! That has PVC in it, so it can't be cut with a laser. I would stick to a normal vinyl cutter.

    Is only HTV laser safe or the adhesive vinyl also

    • @LisaPottsDesigns

      Only HTV and check with the manufacturer. Adhesive vinyl includes PVC, which is not laser safe.

      Just look for the CPSIA certified badge on it! I think they may be adding a laser safe section soon though.

    Siser Carrier layer is made from Polyester, Film - PU. And i see you do just kiss cut to PU film. So Carrier layer is not supported with lasers? It makes dangerous fumes when cutting?

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  Рік тому

      The carrier is also safe, I just prefer kiss cuts to make sure the design stays aligned correctly on the carrier!

  • @BlueGeckoLaser
    @BlueGeckoLaser Рік тому

    Why would you cut htv in your laser, and still weed it? Makes absolutely no sense, ablate the design, and stop weeding it. Just shows how clueless anyone that would buy a Glowforge is.

    • @LisaPottsDesigns
      @LisaPottsDesigns  Рік тому +1

      Cutting all the way through wouldn't keep the design together for pressing. Not cutting through the carrier keeps it in tact for transfer. Using the laser helps make the cut lines clearer and weed easier, or is a good option for people who don't want to also get a vinyl cutter. If I were to ablate the entire design using this machine, it would take forever, so using it as another way to cut is a good option for my needs.
