Our drive into Zacatecas, Mexico and walking tour

- On April 7, 2015, the children were out of school for the Easter Break, and we decided to get out of town for a few days. We drove to Zacatecas, Mexico and spent a few days touring the city. In the video I commented that the city was founded in 1836. That is not correct. It was founded in 1548.
After seeing your video, I also made a trip to Zacatecas this March (the first days of the festival), and what a beautiful place. I really enjoyed it and wouldn't mind living there. Well worth a visit for anyone considering it!
My Serbian wife well American and I being Mexican liked it. I did not drive very narrow streets, people were polite friendly, My 4yrs. old son at time was quite hit. Long story but I get emotional

Loved the video! We would visit Zacatecas twice a year when I was a kid. My father, the youngest of 13 children, was born there. I miss that place and always thought the same thing about its design. It has a European look to it.
Zacatecas was not founded in 1836, that would put it well out of the Colonial Period. It was first established in 1548.
I noticed the mistake right after putting on you tube. I made a comment in the credits about the mistake.
This is where I lived during my childhood years. My father is from Zacatecas, Zac. I miss it! My Lindo Zacatecas!

As you said, The federal highway 54 Is very scenic and by far my favorite road in the world! You're able to see waterfalls, small towns and mountains along the road, Even though the winding
curves that hug the mountains can get quite scary and steep!
Zacatecas indeed is a very beautiful place!
Don't forget the famous burritos of moyahua!

You are right in saying that Zacatecas is very European looking, it is very colonial.
It has a French touch to it.
The French touch is from the Porfiriato, so well out of the colonial time period.
Thank you for sharing. My mother was born there and back in the 806 I was about 11 years old when my family went on a vacation to Zacatecas from Amarillo Tx. My mom is in her 70s now and she wants to visit her birth home one more time. Thank you once again for sharing your trip. Looks very beautiful. I don't remember much when we were little.

The city is much older. It was founded in the 1500’s. I made a big mistake on the founding of the city. I misspoke. Sorry about that.

I need to go to Villa de Cos ,Zacatecas where my ancestors are from. They were natives that were slaves in the silver mines and were given our last name De La Cruz from the Catholic Church during their slavery. I want to see my ancestors land.thanx for the video!

Your videos of Zacatecas look great. I feel I really get a sense of what it is to be there. I am planning to do a weekend trip from Guanajuato in March. You mentioned you drove from Lake Chapala. Are you retired there? I am, btw, in NC now - Winston-Salem. I see from your other vids that you are from or have relatives in this state.

Hey Gary, I was born and grew up in that city, indeed as you said in your video, the city's streets are narrow 'cause it wasn't designed for so much traffic.
Did you go to through the tour inside the Eden mines? At the end there's an elevator that takes you all the way up, then you take the "teleferico", (that aerial tram) all the way to the cerro de la buffa (the mountain with the crest).
Did you visit the bullring hotel?
I am from Zacatecas and it was founded in 1548....
As we were driving by, we saw the bullring hotel, but we did not get to visit it.
my family roots come out of Zacatecas I miss the city and haven't been there since I was 5 after seeing it in this video I am remembering everything I used to know
