"Buttery" feel.. one of the best tips ive picked up in a bit!! As a furniture guy the first thing I do when inspecting antique american furniture is to feel the backs and drawer box bottoms before I look for construction elements.. I can instantly dismiss pieces just by the feel of the secondary wood prep, (chamfers, planing et).... Totally get it! Not a stead fast rule but will certainly send up flares! so now im practicing, (the silver whisperer)!! lol! Terrific quick tip
Could I send you the marks found on two matching pieces I have? I’m pretty sure they are silver plated but can’t tell by the marks on the bottom. Maybe you’d know
I believe it is a date letter relating to the date of manufacture. The following link gives an insight into the system Elkington used to date their elecroplate items. (If they are hallmarked sterling silver spoons the letter is also most like a date letter too.)

No hallmarks, so it means it's only electro plated?
