Dance pop is really a fusion of Funk and Rock mainly. I love them both, which is why dancepop is my favorite genre.

I forgot the New Wave influence. New Wave a 1970's Punk Rock greatly influenced the 80s dance Pop sound.

Techno Pop, Retro Pop held on to the FUNK base line than what became Electro Funk and Latin Freestyle.

I wanted to say something similar, but you nailed it so no reason. All I can add is that perhaps Madonna just wanted to give her boyfriend the work, because there's nothing here that sounds markedly different from what we know so well.
