- This is my video from the SkyBet championship fixture between Middlesbrough v Watfoed at the Riverside stadium on Saturday May 4th 2024.
Boro hit Watford for three on the final day of the season.
Emmanuel Latte Lath's 16th league goal of the season along with goals from Alex Bangura and Isaiah Jones helped Boro see off the Hornets to end the season on a high.
Just one change was made to the Boro side that put four past Cardiff City, with Acadamy Scholar of the Season winner, Law McCabe coming into the midfield.
Watford boss Tom Cleverly was hoping for his second win in as many games since becoming permanent boss at Watford just over a week ago.
The first chance of the game went the way of the Hornets, as Seny Deing reacted quickly to palm away a close-range header from Vakoun Bayo.
For Boro, Alex Gilbert and Emmanuel Latte Lath were linking up well, and the striker had to settle for a corner after Wesley Hoedt's strong tackle came in. Space once again opened up for Gilbert who almost found the Ivorian wide open with a square ball before another crucial tackle.
Finding joy on the right-hand side, it was Isiah Jones who helped pile on more Boro pressure as his shot was saved well by a sprawling Daniel Bachmann.
The force was strong in Latte Lath after being named Championship Player of the Month and he once again got on the end of a Luke Ayling cross to put Boro ahead.
The Ivorian's sweet 16th was enough to take Boro into the interval one goal up.
Latte Lath had been causing Watford all kinds of problems in the first half and he was back at it straight away in the second, his header only being stopped by a fantastic low save from Bachmann.
Watford's Bayo looked to have a great chance in on goal until Gilbert put in an inch-perfect sliding tackle to nip away the ball before the shot came in.
That tackle provided Boro a new hope on the break, as Luke Thomas found himself one-on-one with Bachman who made a good save to tip the defender's effort wide.
Matt Clarke came agonisingly close to his second Boro goal, heading across goal from a Dan Barlaser whipped cross.
Watford found their leveller through a corner, Hoedt flicking on at the front post beating Dieng.
Soon after, Dieng was again called into action, doing well to get down and tip away Kone's low shot.
Boro struck back through some substitute link-up with Sam Greenwood flashing a ball into the box and Alex Bangura applying the finish.
Isaiah Jones made it a trilogy of goals, hammering home from Ayling's drag back, his second assist of the game.
Latte Lath was looking to add to his tally, shaping up to curl one in from range but it fizzed just wide of the post.
With seven minutes added on at the end, Boro's 999th player James Wilson made his debut in exchange for Ayling and saw Boro out until full-time.
