  • I had a video earlier on the Oakter tank bolt a smart motor control plug, it monitored the water level in your overhead tank and could automatically start or stop the motor automatically. The smart plug stopped working for some reason and I could not even get their customer support on the phone to get this rectified. Also, this product has magically disappeared on most e-commerce sites other than tata cliq. I needed another solution as I can’t waste water by having it overflow from my tank. So I picked up this tiny little water leak sensor. I thought it would be bigger, but looking at the box, you understand how small it will be. So follow me on my quest to replace my existing solution with a more wireless solution.

    Use Home Assistant as home automation server. That's the way Tuya, Sonoff, Aquara, Xiomi, Google, Alexa all can talk each other and any automation can be make from any vendor.

    I have connected a smart breaker to input of MIVAN automatic water level sensor, it automatically turns using wifi and turns off when sensor senses water. working like charm for about 4+ years ( P.S. smart plug was installed recently about a year ago.)

    Nice video, but I don't think this device will last longer for you because it's made for indoor uses (IG), by the heat the batteries can get damaged or even the circuit.
    I personally have something like this only, there is one alarm hanging next to my pump switch and its 2 wire goes up in the tank, the same thing is used in it also when its two contacts get short due to water, it rings and we turn off the motor :) have installed a Wipro smart plug to turn on/off my pump.

    I use it inside the water tank too, but after a couple of days, the sensor always be in flooding state. When I check it out, the probe is still wet eventhough there's no water touching it. Maybe because the water that remains on the probe is hard to precipitate due to enclosed space inside. Have you had similar experience?

    Can we cut the wire and add an extension wire so that sensor remains inside the tank...and the device remain near the water pump under the covered area.

      You might be able to attach it to the end of the probe, but not sure if longer wire would cause it to lose voltage and effectively not work or drain the battery faster.

    I think the oakter tank bolt can be repaired...
    And if you need custom solution I can help to automate the switch with this sensor as well.. I am actually developing a product for the same to automate the switch for water pumps...

      It actually works, but the server they had seem to have been taken down which is required to login. It worked very well actually. I'm now using a custom solution.

    If it’s connected to Smart life… can you create an automation in the app to turn off the smart plug based on water detection?

    • @TalkingstuffNet
      @TalkingstuffNet  11 місяців тому +1

      If your smartplug is on smartlife then it can be controlled using the trigger from the sensor.

      Awesome. I have smart life smart plugs so will try it. I am also exploring Home Assistant these days so would be keen to see how it integrates with it. Thank you so much for the content. ❤

      If your water leak sensor is connected to wifi, you can get the notification where ever you're in the world.

      I have the Sonoff Zigbee hub. I had seen the sensor, but it doesn't have a long lead to put into the water (I can attach) and being in top of the house was not sure how far the Zigbee signals would go. The sensor I'm using connects via wifi.

    TP Link has integrated its devices using tapo hub, I have not checked if you use tplink tapo switch, tapo water detector and smart switch, it may work!

    • @TalkingstuffNet
      @TalkingstuffNet  2 місяці тому +1

      They are really expensive together I guess, the hub itself is 1499, leak sensor 1099, and plug is 899. 😅
      The sensor I used is wifi based and costs Rs 1199.
      No gurantee that the tapo sensors will work well too. 😄

      Adding a thought to your video generally Smart plug is used Give conditions in alexa or Google home app If water level is detected then it should switch off smart plug. May try if same brand has smart plug supported for motor pumps. Presently I am using tapo plug

    Sensor malfunctioning in hot weather is just an example of poor engineering.

      If it rains too much or it's too hot it malfunctions, very problematic.
