    Actually your acronym for DISGRUNTLED is as good as any of the acronym's Hasbro ever came up with.

    The first comics gave me the impression that Grunt was a squad leader, below Stalker but above others. In the top ten of his class....cool. He was always one of my favorites, and leaving the team for college gave the comic a good dose of realism and sentimentality just as things were starting to get weird. Grunt is awesome, looking to re-acquire a version 1.5, one of my first joes.

    As an E-4 (Corporal) in 1983 he would have been a squad/team member, as an E-5 (Sergeant) he would be a squad leader - so that part is accurate to modern US Army structure.
    Now, seeing as how it either took him from 1983 to 1991 to make E-5, and that he was STILL an E-5 after that many years, well...

    For those who say 'GRUNT! GRUNT! GRUNT!' (and Who'sYourDaddy saying 'DISGRUNTLED'), 'Grunt' is the character's code name because it's a colloquial term for an infantry soldier.

    Great vid so happy to participate thats me at 21:34 doing my part. Its a great thing to make light of the importance of this character as Version 1 was possibly the first ever GI Joe we got in 1983 or early 198. I had dropped him in the bushes outside of our building at the time and about a year later found him and rescued him. He has sat in the collection ever since! The V3 is also special to me despite its lesser design issues and has been a favorite ever since. Perhaps you should do the mutant Funskool version one day if you really want that nice headache you get when the package from India is opened and the smell of recycled tires that became that GI Joe figure LOL!

    Back when I had this as a kid, I had no idea who Grunt was. This figure always struck me as specifically a driver or mechanic for some reason.

    Grunt seemed to me more of an army builder as a kid. To me he was just a soldier and not a specific character. He may be the first G.I.Joe I remember seeing at Kmart as a kid.

    Grunt has a special place in g.i. joe. He is the backbone of the team. V.3 looks like a new dreadnok mold and hasbro said, screw that, let's call him grunt instead. piss poor job for an original figure.

    haha, the figure itselft was not bad at all and i remember loving it as a kid for the... realism :D i had Tracker, Sci-Fi, Clean Sweep and Mercer from that period and he was definitely outstanding. i understand why you all get so mad very well but had he had another name he would actually have been good, all right all right better that most of others from that year.

    here's my take on how Grunt made it back to the original G.I. Joe timeline. He showed up one day in the alternative realty with those banana pants on and when the rest of that realities Joe squad saw him, they threw him back in his own reality as fast as they could just to never have to see that monstrosity of a wardrobe again. Great review of a figure that I only think got infantry squad leader because they know he would lead the charge and get shot first!!!!!

    I’m not shermanvermin76 but (getting to the point) why was the mouth of this version of Grunt unpainted, if he has his mouth open (by having his open mouth black, and his teeth white)? (and BTW yes, being dark yellow, his trousers do look like they’re banana coloured; he wears black boots to go with them) additionally, his head isn’t flat - he has flat-top hair (the 1982 version of him, whose hair was brown, didn’t have flat-top hair) [I’m aware this version, from late 1991, has black hair - there were a good bit of characters whose hair colours changed, in their new versions]

    If this version of Grunt had a moustache (and, I keep saying, quite a thin one, and, colour-wise, it would be black), I think he'd look like Footloose (another moustachioed character, although his hair and moustache are black in the 80s Sunbow cartoon, unlike those of the figure). The 1982 version having a moustache (again, quite a thin one, and would be coloured brown) would look like Zap (although his moustache is even thinner, and has a black one).

    Awesome video as always! There is one more version of this Grunt mold. The 2003 G.I.Joe International Funskool version that was released in India and which came with a "Lifeline"case which contained an ink pad. The figure was repainted and was accompanied by an ink pad stamper and an extremely oversized machine gun! Very interesting as a curiosity but anachronistic with what I know as the real G.I.Joe ARAH!....Much like the 1990s USA releases;)

      again, I’m a different user from shermanvermin76, but when said user said (now last decade) that this version of Grunt would look like 1985’s Footloose, if he had a moustache, I (this different user) Googled the late Scott Hall (as he never had one when playing Razor Ramon), followed by the word ‘moustache’, and yes - IMO, I did see a resemblance (in that Scott Hall *does* look said 1985 character, when he had a moustache)

    I like *this* Grunt (from late 1991) as well as the 1982 version. If I had *both* figures, I'd use milliput (and, for the 1982 version, brown acrylic paint, and, for this one, black acrylic paint) and sculpt a brown moustache (quite a thin one) on the 1982 Grunt (whose head hair's brown), and sculpt a black moustache (again, quite a thin one) on *this* Grunt (whose head hair's black, as well as is flat-top).

    His coat is supposed to be a bomber jacket, but looks two sizes too small. What's worse mostly Air Force fly boys were known to wear bomber jackets, so we have naval, air force, and green beret stuff on a simply infantry trooper. This figure is just horrible. I like v3 Grunt's helmet, torso, arms and accessories. The head sculpt is okay but I wish the pants were a green color. That would have made all the difference.

    Awesome review. Glad I didn't ever buy him. On a good note he is like an ambassador in the new idw comic series.

      @HCC788  7 років тому

      Now I'm curious. I'd really like to see the Indian version, if it's actually worse than this!

    This is quite possibly the worst figure I've ever seen...well, minus the Ice Cream soldier, Cobra Laa, and those Toxic warriors...Oh Joe, those 90's were bad weren't they...

    • @shermanvermin76
      @shermanvermin76 6 років тому

      I know I have to respect your opinion, but *I* don't dislike this figure, nor do I find the majority of 90s G.I. Joe figures *that* bad. There were *worse* G.I. Joe figures in the 90s decade, than *this* one.

    • @gazz_N7
      @gazz_N7 6 років тому

      shermanvermin76 very true, there are worse figures from the 90's, 80's as well, but the combination of that head sculpt, and that color choice for his pants... This is Grunt, he deserved better.
