Astounding ! One of best performance never heard with Chromatic Harmonica. The smoothness of your playing shows the melting point between the man and the instrument . This song is a treasure trove for a diatonic harmonica player approaching the chromatic one like me.The harmonic progression is never ordinary but genuine original and sometimes very artful ; a true pleasure listenin’ to it .Thank you Mr Jason Keene , a sincere greeting from Italy !
How wonderful! My husband and I were listening to this because I wanted to show him how good one of the 280s could sound. We both loved it. Wish I could make mine sound like that! Thanks for posting!
I very much like the 280. I have two of them .. Both "Gardnerized" by the last of the Harmonicats,, Dick Gardner. Excellent video, great sound, tempo the whole deal.. superb.
it's a nice example of the capabilities of the chromatic harmonica to play good jazz, certainly, you are in the first line of the world's outstanding jazz harmonica players !!
Awesome playing, Mr. BluesBop! I also play 'Summertime' on chromatic harmonica with my band, but not as good as you. But you inspired me to play it better. Keep boppin!
I wanted to add that Summertime is a great choice of a tune to play on that wonderful instrument! I have been looking for several weeks to find a chromatic player with some nice jazz chops and finally I found you. Most of the stuff I have checked out has been some real jive ass crap so I just subscribed to your channel. I was a pro bassist and play chromatic for fun but have learned a lot by hearing and watching you so thanks very much! I would love to hear you do 'Round Midnight or Autumn in New York. You would do those great tunes justice I bet! Thanks again!
This is wonderful. Bravo! Have been kicking around the idea of learning to play a chromatic, especially for Jazz. Have never gotten my ears around the sound though (compared with playing a diatonic, blues style). Thanks for the inspiration to give it a go! :)
I like your improve that's the subject that I'm working on to go to the next level with my chromatic harmonica, Damn! you sound like Jean Toots Thielemans, keep up the good work bro.
Nice playing Mr. ! Great idea on the monitor earphone. I play chromatic when doing the karaoke thing.. and sometimes the sound system is sub optimal, I should put together a setup like yours.. great idea. I just purchased a Suzuki. I think I like my hohners better. Your harp sounds great. I really think plastic combs are much better. Play on. I'm in LA too.
BS'D Very fine playing. Just went through an old music drawer at my house and came upon a chromatic harmonica. Don't remember how I came to own it. It's old and rusty. Think I'll go get me a Honer or Suzuki. This video just gives me more inspiration to get into it. Anyone out there have any insight on how to begin approaching this instrument?
Hmmm. Nicest comment ever? Thank you. I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface sometimes. Your comment is inspiring and motivating to say the least. More wood-shedding!
The comb was handmade by a man named Bill Romel, who has sadly passed away. He actually hand drilled a solid piece of acrylic, some of my favorite harps were crafted by him. There are places you can buy acrylic combs for a 280, Brendan Powers makes really good stuff, I have a Sirius mounted on his power comb that I love...
Hi. you sound fantastic, I wish you could show the tabs. for it but I suspect a lot of the notes are played intuitively rather than from a script. I am just learning the tune I have transcribed it into G from Amn., I am struggling with the last verse which is played on holes 9& 10 in C but very difficult to blow on holes 10 - 11 to get the key into G. Any help appreciated. Thank you for for posting
"but after all, it's jazz." A cliche' better left to the power chord aficionado who is puzzled when a third creeps into their music vocabulary. Nice phrasing, good tone and great single note articulation. "Stevie" would be proud.
I hear what you're saying, it was my first video. But personally I love reverb, delay, compression, and even distortion sometimes. I come from a jazz, blues and rock background, so my sensibilities run a bit more raucous than the typical stuffed shirts in the chrome community that always want you to sound like "they" think you should, which is often pretty dull to my ears... ;-) That said, I respect your opinion. Btw the early Toots LP's on Columbia like "The Sound" are pretty heavy on reverb, and the biggest chrome hit of all time "Peg O My Heart" is literally swimming in it. Ideally I'd like to sound like Chet Baker meets Jeff Beck....I'm experimenting with some interesting pedals, and even synthesizers lately. Work in progress...cheers!
Hey Jason! I'm a huge fan ! I lurk around your channel all the time...I've always been a chromatic guy, but listening to you and those great tutorials has been inspirational... Cheers!
nr3rful haha! Truth is, this was my first video, I close my eyes when I play a lot, I was kinda self conscious...the guys at Slidemeister forum busted me for wearing sunglasses five years ago, so I eventually stopped wearing them...they are, however, prescription... ;-)
I love "Chromatic Harmonica" played well. Especially Jazz, But I can Dig some classical too. I like Larry Adler & what about that susan s. girl(woman), lady... whatever_ she is Good. very progressive.
VERY GOOD JAZZ, BUT LET ME ASK YOU: WHY DON´T YOU PLAY BACKED BY BASS AND 48 CHORD HARMONICAS, THAT I´M SURE YOU COULD GET A PURE HARMONICA SOUND. CONGRATULATIONS FROM LIMA, PERU, S.A.
He plays It like a angel.God bless him.
He plays even hipper than he looks. He doesn't try to play too many notes. I like that.
I wanted to just hear the quality of a Hohner 280
Hearing you play it makes me think it's a master quality instrument,
thanks for the inspiration :)
Not only good, just great. Thanks for posting..

Oh believe me, there's a few notes in there I'd like to have deleted, but after all, it's jazz...work in progress...
fortissimo
Cool.
Вкусно!
Hey man, Jason Ricci likes your playing! What's better than that?
Hmmm. Nicest comment ever? Thank you. I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface sometimes. Your comment is inspiring and motivating to say the least. More wood-shedding!

Главное, чтобы не проглотил гармонику. Играет здорово.
He is good me likes it

How can I get that acrylic comb 👍🏾
Make one.
Where did you get this acrylic comb? Is it from the super 64x?
Very nice playing. I don't know why all chrom players think they need all that reverb though. Ruins it for me.
I hear what you're saying, it was my first video. But personally I love reverb, delay, compression, and even distortion sometimes. Thanks for the response! I totally understand your view and had no business criticizing anyway.
All good! Opinions don't offend me, and you're not entirely wrong anyway. Most people, including myself overdo the reverb...
I didn't think there was that much at all....
Hey Jason! I'm a huge fan ! I lurk around your channel all the time...I've always been a chromatic guy, but listening to you and those great tutorials has been inspirational... Cheers!
what reverb did you use ?
Is it sunny in your house?
nr3rful haha! Truth is, this was my first video, I close my eyes when I play a lot, I was kinda self conscious...the guys at Slidemeister forum busted me for wearing sunglasses five years ago, so I eventually stopped wearing them...they are, however, prescription... ;-)
Cool. Could you make a tutorial.

Burning!
Okay, except for a bad note 2 minutes and 30 seconds in. Just kidding, Fr. Keene. Fucking, outrageously, incredibly, AMAZING.
VERY GOOD JAZZ, BUT LET ME ASK YOU: WHY DON´T YOU PLAY BACKED BY BASS AND 48 CHORD HARMONICAS, THAT I´M SURE YOU COULD GET A PURE HARMONICA SOUND.
CONGRATULATIONS FROM LIMA, PERU, S.A.
C'est même pas les bonnes notes !
il peut mieux faire
Fantastic!
nice
