Could you do a video on drills to keep you under/inside the ball? I know there’s a difference but I’ve found some inconsistencies in my game because of it. Thanks and as always awesome video
It's probably worth noting that the natural height will vary depending on how high you start with the ball, and how hard you push it away at the beginning of the swing. Both that initial height, as well as your pushaway speed will add energy to the ball that will be expended as the ball falls and drags your arm back.
Hi...I'm a 76 old man just starting to bowl after a 50 year absence. Would appreciate any suggestions for dealing with arthritis in the knees and shoulders that won't allow my body to work the way use to. I notice my backswing it quite low and it's hard to reach onto the lane with the ball. Thanks so much! (balance is a problem as well).
I have noticed that some bowlers keeps ball toi high on starting and the swing stops only back pocket high. They crap the ball. Better start with ball lower starting and it goes easy higher between shoulder and head, if the arm is loose.
I think what he was highlighting is an issue with low backswing specifically _because_ of muscling the ball -- not just having a low backswing in general. My takeaway, though I could be wrong, was that a person's individual backswing will dictate itself with the proper timing. It's not something to generally be actively thinking about.
for real though, people tell me different things, [people say my backswing goes over my head, and some people say it's around head lvl, when I take a vid, it goes over my head, but the angle is lower, so obviously it'll look high, people tell me to shorten it, and my coach tells me my backswing is my backswing, I need to find a way to just shorten it, at least to like shoulder length, or around neck lvl
If the swing should be "free" of muscular interference, why do some swings have a ball height (at the top of the swing) that is well over the bowler's head, while others have a ball height barely past the back leg. I realize, as was stated in the video, that a short back swing (like mine by the way) if most likely the result of "muscle" pulling the arm back toward the target. I was just wondering if high backswings (Pete Weber and many others) are the result of long arms or are partially due to the are being "muscled" back? Thanks in advance.
High backswing do not involve muscling, AFAIK. But there are folks who do. Check out Luis Napoles in youtube. His backswing is not really high, but he got this funny way of holding it there awhile until he’s ready to swing it forward.
New bowler here. Im trying to use the free flowing method of swinging. But by the time i bring the ball to a certain height i feel like the ball is about to fall out of my hand
I push it down with my left hand a little while keeping my right arm relaxed🤣. I'm just a weekend bowler though, don't know shit. Just recently learned how to hook the ball, but I found it hooking less with my high back swing and increased ball speed. 😔
That is perfectly allright if your swing feels natural and is accurate. Having good ball speed is a nice foundation to build upon. Now work on increasing your rev rate and consider a "stronger" ball to catch up to your speed and your pin action will be greatly improved.
So... what about for no thumb bowlers? I’m a no thumb bowler and it seems like that style is becoming more popular. Doesn’t seem like there’s much tips for this style.
I have been bowling for around 2years and I average 210 on the for nights I bowl but I’m having a lot of trouble setting the ball down on the lane , I keep lofting the ball ? HELP!!!
I have been bowling actively for 2 years now and I simply cannot find the exact fit that want for my thumb. I've learned 2H (~190 average during league) and love it, but due to to having 3 spinal surgeries and using a brace now it's much more comfortable for me to bowl with a sturdy torso brace for pain relief reasons and I'm back to 1H because it's hard to bend as much with a brace on. We only have 1 bowling alley within a 2 hour drive radius and we've had our local pro shop change owners/employees over 4x in 2 years. Many people say the ball should let go of you and not you let go of the ball but achieving that (tape, multiple people drilling for me, etc) I can't find a comfortable grip to keep the ball on my hand with a thumb long enough without using the thumbprint side to tighten down during the swing. The closest I can achieve is slightly gripping the right side of my thumb while I swing. I've seen numerous videos about people saying you use the back side of your thumb and then just relax your hand as you release the ball but I simply can't find the best fit to do so. Any tips? Also I have ~420 rev rate but I use a mechanical brace because of carpel tunnel and it prevents my wrist from breaking back too aggressively. I want my hand to break back sooner and can increase my rev rate significantly with a tight wrist strap but it usually hurts by the end of a game or so. Are there any devices, tips, or tricks to help reduce said pain so I can still bowl comfortably but allow my wrist to break back enough for my thumb to come out sooner? I might just have to travel somewhere to find a better pro shop that can fit me properly... Not sure.
Few things you can do 1.do 2 finger no thumb 2.get a wrist positioner brace example the gadget from storm but you'll have to plug your bowling balls 3.get reverse pitch in your thumb hole to get your thumb out faster
@@dejabowler873 Yeah that's what I said and use already. I use a wrist positioner, the C4 from storm, drilled span is great, just can't get my thumb out that well with my axis tilt. I think we just have amateurs at our pro shop TBH. They all drill really basic layouts for every single ball for every person and when you ask about more advanced stuff for different reactions they usually have no idea what you're talking about. I need a good oval drill so I don't need ~10 pieces of tape really... =P
I changed the pitch in my thumb and fingers. I moved my fingers in to the palm and and my thumb away from the palm. This gets off my thumb quicker and on my fingers longer allowing me to stay under the ball a tad longer for that extra rev rate. But the thing with rev rate is that it has to match your ball speed. If they don’t match it tends to make bowling more difficult than it already is

That was an awesome video. Great lesson for where my game is right now. Thanks art.
Been watching your videos for awhile now. Thanks for showing me how to use a bowling towel for a swing buddy.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks alot, your videos are really informative and helpful! I subbed

Coach love to see a video with different finger positions all related to a clock
Little did we know what we were heading into in 2020 😮

As long as you don't pull down on it
Art, how about pro's with low back swings like Nick Pate and Tom Smallwood, would you say they muscle the ball? Just curious on your thought on this
Thats what works for them the proper hieght is something that does not really exist.

Flexability of the individual...
I would think that if the ball is significantly higher at top of backswing than at address, there’s more than gravity in play.

Where does straight bowler stand get strikes and and what board.
Thanks
No problem hope to see a video soon

I had the same thing happen with me to so I just stop going to that pro shop an went to a different shop maybe that could work for you

Wrong you can be rev domanit
Where can i buy the swing trainer?
Elieens bowling buddies
I have my normal swing. Then if I want more power I go higher. It’ll automatically be a stronger ball
rest in piece to the ball that was sacrificed for demonstration of gravity
OK but I'm a 3 step
Then the swing starts before the furst step
Why does he sound like he has no emotion
