Hands Full of Thorns - Gospel of Mark #16 - September 1, 2024

Do you find it easy to get distracted? Life is absolutely full of distractions, and no matter where you look, it seems like everything is waiting to suck you right in. The news promises that the worst thing ever is about to happen, so keep reading. Social media promises that what you really want to see is just a bit further down, so keep scrolling. Money promises that it will make all your dreams come true if you have enough of it, so keep saving.
Between the highs and the lows of life, the pace of the modern world is exhausting. However, have you ever considered that the pace world has always been exhausting? The nature of the world and people have never changed and the exhaustion you might be feeling right now is an ancient problem, not a modern one.
This week we finish our study of the Parable of the Sower, looking at what Jesus calls “the thorns that grow up and choke” the seed that is sown. We’ll talk about the hard work of weeding the soil of our hearts, and the beautiful life that follows when we do.
