@@GamingUniversityUoG The heavy psychological symbolism of this game is almost unfathomable, say you "invert" someone's psychological dynamics so their personality becomes their direct opposites, like esseJ - along with its derived implication from natural philosophy, system science and control theory, with occasional hinting at the social reality as illustrated by the perpetual contention for conceptual dominance between the Board and "the dissent". Just look at some court decisions.
The idea of those trapped in the mirror ceasing to exist once the mirror is moved beyond the boundary of its reflected area is horrifying to me. Even if they re-entered existence if the mirror was moved back to that same spot, who's to say they would even be alive or even sane?
I'm thinning the second option. The first agent mentions seeing a reflection in it as well. But it never specifies what it is. Also since it was his infected when jesse went in who knows if that altered its behavior
I love these videos. They activate the FBC agent inside me and take me back to the world of Control. I just start researching random stuff on my own from the docs like dates, names, concepts etc. Like year in the doc is 1914.. beginning of WW1 or the name Carver..an impactful agricultural scientist who made his name during WW1. Or like in philosophy and psychoanalysis...the concept of mirror stage by Lacan, seemed related to Jesse and esseJ. I know these are not related but I just googled em and tried to see if these are related to the game. that's how much excited I get.
That's what I love doing about these. Trying to find real world things that link to it. I know that the fridge may have been related to a real building collapse. The fan is a Korean piece of folklore. The tree has a location in common with a real world plane crash. Just weird stuff. It's so much fun to research
Earliest record we have of the Blessed Organization was late 50s I believe. The action max camera. But that's just official records. No idea about their potential involvement beforehand
glad someone noticed! used the OST from Exodus alot this season, it fit the theme and the eventual conclusion (get it, exodus? ;) ) just like how last season used the OST from The Observer as things with Argus heated up in the second half and throughout the finale. Also, Metro games kick ass I love them.
Oooo I hope we end up getting one for Seers at some point it seems like saga was able to talk to everyone’s shadows and get their unconscious truths out
As always this video is amazing. I’ve actually been rewatching your Control videos these last 2 days, probably like the 4th time I’ve watched them haha, I’m still understanding new paranatural concepts that I’ve never fully understood before, I rewatched the Dead letters episode while on the way to my college today, so I was glad to see this video show up on my recommended page. I’m not sure why but I’ve mostly forgotten about the victorian mirror, it’s probably the most unique out of all the altered items, it just straight up creates a small mirror dimension with a mirror entity inside, most of the altered items just Telekinetically move stuff or effect people psychically in minor ways, but very few of them have an effect that’s this powerful and unique. what is the mirror entity? Is there just on mirror entity that shape shifts into whoever enters the mirror ? Or is an entity just straight up created for every person who enters the mirror ? Jesse fights and defeats 3 versions of esseJ, so can this item just casually create a bunch of humanoid clones ? I think that esseJ did bleed during that fight but I’m not certain, are these copies biologically human ? Or are they something completely different?. The mirror and the Home safe are unique, they’re the only 2 altered item/Object of Power that contain/create a living entity, is it possible that the entities are the source of these items alterations ? Maybe an entity can latch onto a non altered item, and use it to sustain itself ? Maybe the mirror entity existed before the vedtorian mirror, and latched itself into the mirror, making it altered, and then it lured people into it’s dimension to consume them or whatever. Anyway sorry this is too long I just think about this game too much
Haha same here. I think about it way too much. So we have in game confirmation that the Hiss can infect an altered item and change how it behaves. Making it volatile. We saw that with the Floppy Disk and other OoPs. Also the Former did the same thing to the fridge and pink flamingo. In regards to the mirror entity. It is hard to say. Jesse visits it when the Hiss infected it. Not sure if that's an innate effect or caused by the Hiss alteration.
odd that I only just found out the etymology of lunatic some few hours ago, and now here this video discusses the exact same topic in fresh new detail that I didn't learn from before. Such odd coincidence, or perhaps Synchronicity? They said lunacy came from staring upon the Moon's _reflection_ in a lake for several hours without distraction. I was drawn to the prospect of attempting such a feat out of a desire for an unusual mental challenge, but now I wonder if perhaps the celestial orbs wish me to do so more than I wished to do so, if there is something beneath the glassy surface that beckons me to it
You've really woven together a great series here. Since the new season started, I've been looking forward more to the whole Ian storyline more than the actual subject matter 😂 looking forward to the next one!
I was talking about that with Yellowbat. Originally the storyline was just an excuse to make this Altered Item series. Didn't think each item had enough content to fill out an episode. So custom story happened. But as it went tying each item into the character has been fun.
Love this item. Love the outfit you get after proving you’re the better Jesse. Although it would have been cool if you could take Essej’s gun. Dual wield service weapon!
Apologies for steering in opposite direction, but I wanted to reach out! After hearing of the passing of James earl jones 😔 not to mention losing so many great actors and people in such a short time is honestly wearing on me! Like you said in one of your psychonauts videos: it's like a whirlwind of emotions! Just wanted to ask if you had words or advice you could offer?
I just heard that yesterday. 92. Man he had a full long life. Luckily he was in a position to leave a legacy behind that we all can continue to enjoy. With that storm of emotions finding a way to ground yourself is a good starting point. A constant that isn't effected by the wind.
Hearing Max Derrat's voice in the middle of a report is how I know I'm still sane.
Haha just had to bring him back
Max as our therapist is very appropriate. His videos have given me more meaningful introspection than any session I've had.
Agreed!
It’s also mentioned by the incantation. Possible symbolistic link.
“Through a mirror, inverted is made right”
Such a great line

The Synchronicity Lab is one of my favorite departments . . . glad to hear Ian making these connections

It's absolutely a horrifying thought.
Do you think that "esseJ" is just a mirrored copy of Jesse or maybe an entity living inside the mirror that assumes the appearance of whoever enters?
I'm thinning the second option. The first agent mentions seeing a reflection in it as well. But it never specifies what it is. Also since it was his infected when jesse went in who knows if that altered its behavior
the way that i CHEERED when i saw that notification (the victorian mirror is my fave item)
Mirrors are more fun than television.
Such a cool items and side quest! With a oddly fun backstory too.

I was JUST thinking about this channel. Weird.
Perfect timing
I was not expecting Max Derrat to be in the video!
Crazy surprise!
@@GamingUniversityUoG No. *Sane* surprise. Or at least as sane as it can be with the inmates running this asylum before the current Director.
Been waiting for this one and it did not disappoint.
Glad it was worth the wait
I wonder if the Blessed Organization donated the mirror to the library.

Lots of introspection for sure

Mirror, mirror on the wall! Who is the most mentally unstable agent of them all?
The top 20 are all dead. Some of them *BEFORE* the Hiss invasion. Would you like to narrow your search? 🙃
Poor guy just needs a vacation
Into the mirror we go!!!
Haha time to brush up on my backwards speech
Nice one. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Won't have to wait too long 😎

How would sign language work in reverse? Could the FBC implement it should use of the mirror still be required?
I wouldn't know how a signer would perceive a reflected gesture. Probably wouldn't change much of anything except in specific situations.
11/10 editing job 👏🏼
