Hey guys, I have been stamping since the 1990s, and I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Tsukinkeo, a Japanese company, originated the Versa Mark ink pad. It was originally designed to make watermarks on medium shades of card stock. For example, if you take a sage colored card stock, ink your stamp with Versa Mark, and stamp on the card stock, then go over it with your heat gun, you will see the stamped image in a darker shade of sage; a watermark. Great for doing backgrounds. Well, stampers are ingenious, and we quickly found out that when you sprinkle the embossing powder on Versa Mark, because it stays wet for so long, you get a really great embossed pattern. However, before they invented the warter mark ink, Tsukinkeo had a line called Color Box that were colored, pigment inks. They were acid free and color safe and you could use them in scrapbooking. Once you bought clear embossing powder, or any color powder, you could use the Color Box colors and then emboss them. And they had a lot of awesome colors! Well Versa Mark became so popular that they stopped producing the colored inks as people were buying colored embossing powders to use with Versa Mark. However, they did introduce Versa Fine in colors because it is better for word stamps and delicate floral design stamps that have a lot of lines. So you can buy the Versa Fine colors and then use clear embossing powder to get colored print when you need it. I still have my Color Box inks in the cat eye shape, because I bought the re-inkers for my most popular colors, but eventually I will start buying the Versa Fine Claire. Now you know the history behind the story. 🏆❤️

I still have many of my colorbox pads. Remember the petal shaped ones? I have new one still! And the ones that had "bars" of colors, you could use individualy. They still almost work!!

Some more tips. If you find your paper curls when embossing, put a folded towel under it. The heat goes through better and it doesn't curl as much. If you want to colour emboss with clear versa mark, and clear powder, stamp the colour pad you want to use on a tile. Pick up clear versa mark on your stamp, then go onto the coloured ink. Stamp and use clear powder.

Great idea. I love WOW powders too! If for some reason there is an a spot or 2 where the embossing powder doesn’t stick, you can fill the spot in with a white gell pen. It camouflages the spot.

@Carolyn: it’s not difficult, but you MUST make sure that your ink pad is very moist. For the embossing power to melt properly, it needs a wet medium. Hope this helps!

It may have been Gina K or Mindy Eggen where I first heard about using white pigment ink under white embossing powder. I tried it, but never got good results. I use Lawn Fawn's Yeti ink, so it's not like it's a no-name crappy-quality ink pad. And my ink pad is good & juicy, so a dry pad is not the problem. I just never got good coverage with the embossing powder, compared with using Versamark. So I went back to Versamark. I've never understood how other people get the results they do with white pigment ink, and I just couldn't. But, I guess it is what it is. Thank you for sharing anyway, Laurel. I hope y'all are doing well. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)

AHA! Thank you SO much for these tips - I already have white pigment ink - why did I never think of that? As for embossing, you can feel the difference between the two sides of cardstock. Go with the smoothest as the EP doesn't sink into the c/s so badly.
