Agreed. The best team of your conference should be in. And, with the ending of PAC-12, the 4 bye teams are now P4 (not Power-5) championship teams. That means that the other 8 teams are smaller conference champs and then...probably the losers places of the P4 conference championship games and a few extras. I will be so much happier then.

Realistically Washington should be the one seed. Undefeated on a 20 game win streak that includes a win over Texas in Texas. The most ranked wins this season. Best strength of record in the country. The only argument you could make is Michigan over them being the B1G representative.

And with the new format in the conference, there will be no more divisions. Also, with 12 teams getting in, even if OSU has 2 losses they will still get into it. So the following could happen: OSU loses to Michigan in the regular season. OSU then loses again to Michigan in the conference title game. Then the make their way through the bracket and meet Michigan... and lose again. Can you IMAGINE the outrage in Buckeye land if they lose to Michigan THREE times in about a 2 month span?

The point is to crown a National Championship which is based on game results and competition, so it should be implied that “Best 4 teams” means based on resume and not based on who you’d pick to win head to head or who would make for a more entertaining playoff. With that said even if you accept the later definition of best 4, which is contrary to putting in the 4 most deserving teams (unlike the first definition) then you are implicitly admitting that a team like Florida State should be in under a fair system, even though they would not or should not be selected based on the criteria as defined. Regardless of the debate about semantics the 4 most deserving are the 4 most deserving ie. the 4 teams that should be in under a fair system.
The problem with putting the four best teams is it is very subjective. Last week we would have put in Oregon and they proved they were not one of the best teams. We would have put in Georgia over Alabama and they prove they were not one of the best teams. You can't just assume. That's why the games have to be played and the games that are played have to matter. We could just put in two SEC and two Big ten teams at the beginning of the year and say screw the regular season if not. As we have seen this weekend, you can't just assume things and put in teams you think are better because they simply are not always the best teams. The committee has no choice I think but to go by the most deserving teams, IE the teams that actually won on the field. Whether we think Florida State will get destroyed shouldn't have anything to do with it, they earned it. It's why we don't put in two loss teams in the past, even if we thought they were better. I'm not sure why they would want to switch that up now, unless they just want an SEC team in there. The games simply have to matter or there's no point in playing.

Alabama and Georgia are really good teams. Issue is the amount of undefeated conference champs in Power 5. Michigan, Washington, and FSU are in because the committee has never left an undefeated team off the list that is Power 5. Texas has the win against Alabama, so they are in. It's sad that Alabama probably isn't going, but to deny an undefeated FSU is not likely.
Leaving a 13-0 FSU team out because of should-happens, could-happens, and would-happens is just horrible. This is the whole entire reason why we play the game! There were so many times just THIS season when what should've, could've, and would've happened, didn't happen. Who are we to say this definitely won't happen if we put FSU in?

The point is to crown a National Championship which is based on game results and competition, so it should be implied that “Best 4 teams” means based on resume and not based on who you’d pick to win head to head or who would make for a more entertaining playoff. With that said even if you accept the later definition of best 4, which is contrary to putting in the 4 most deserving teams (unlike the first definition) then you are implicitly admitting that a team like Florida State should be in under a fair system, even though they would not or should not be selected based on the criteria as defined. Regardless of the debate about semantics the 4 most deserving are the 4 most deserving ie. the 4 teams that should be in under a fair system.
The problem with putting the four best teams is it is very subjective. Last week we would have put in Oregon and they proved they were not one of the best teams. We would have put in Georgia over Alabama and they prove they were not one of the best teams. You can't just assume. That's why the games have to be played and the games that are played have to matter. We could just put in two SEC and two Big ten teams at the beginning of the year and say screw the regular season if not. As we have seen this weekend, you can't just assume things and put in teams you think are better because they simply are not always the best teams. The committee has no choice I think but to go by the most deserving teams, IE the teams that actually won on the field. Whether we think Florida State will get destroyed shouldn't have anything to do with it, they earned it. It's why we don't put in two loss teams in the past, even if we thought they were better. I'm not sure why they would want to switch that up now, unless they just want an SEC team in there. The games simply have to matter or there's no point in playing.

Texas needed the worse coaching decision of the season to beat K State. Georgia, in season, hasn't really needed a game winning touchdown or field goal. I think they'll view the Bama loss as an upset but Georgia would have a better loss than both Bama and Texas. Bama is 8th. Texas is 7th. You just don't jump undefeateds. It's more likely Georgia would drop to 4 and still be viewed as a top 4 team.

SEC may not make the playoff, but they have 2 of the top-4 teams in the nation. Bama and Georgia are top 4 teams in my opinion along with Michigan and Texas.
Alabama and Georgia are really good teams. Issue is the amount of undefeated conference champs in Power 5. Michigan, Washington, and FSU are in because the committee has never left an undefeated team off the list that is Power 5. Texas has the win against Alabama, so they are in. It's sad that Alabama probably isn't going, but to deny an undefeated FSU is not likely.

In my book, Michigan shouldn’t have ANY post season games. They CHEATED. Plain and simple. THEY CHEATED. End of story. How many of those games are due to them stealing signs? I agree with this in terms of fair rankings. SEC should really own everything but that's not possible. In terms of just football and who I think will beat who, Alabama and Georgia are really the two best teams in the country.. The only reason Alabama lost a game is because they were testing the waters with their QBs. Now that they got their sht together, they've been the honorary top for a while. So, Georgia losing to Alabama is honestly Georgia losing to the honorary #2 slot
