We've been getting blowouts with four teams. The expansion is about something else. Like a now you'll have 12 programs that won't consider their season a dissapointment instead of four.

florida state is a more complete team than any of the three mentioned. by far. with adjustments in the second half there is not a single thing they cannot account for. bama, oregon or longhorns would have to put up 20+ unanswered points to beat FSU. Bama struggles against USF, Texas struggled against tcu (who lost to freaking colorado) and kansas, and Dan lanning has proven over and over that he isnt good at clock management (although he plays in an overrated pac12 that isnt half as good as the preseason rankings had them). yall wild
The knock on Lanning is because he's a first time head coach. He learned from that first game at Washington. He won't make the same mistake again. And remember, he was the Defensive coordinator at UGA. His defense is being built to the exact same standards . And it's just year 2 for him. When he gets his players in place ( like Kirby Smart has done) Oregon will become a national powerhouse.

Its simple. The CFP ranking doesnt work. As long as its based on voting in any capacity someone will feel they got screwed. The only way to fix it is to use the conference champions for the playoff field. Power 5 and Group of 5 and go from there. I think that's b******* even if they win out that they start dropping in rankings. If they keep winning you cannot drop them below 5 until someone loses then actually they get to move up. At some point the damn wins and losses have to count otherwise why are playing them. This is coming from a Georgia fan not even FSU. If they win out don't they have to play the exact same games they were going to play anyways. So whether they win those games with their starter or backup they still played the exact same games. If you have a team with one loss and you want them to be up in the top four don't lose a game. We don't reward people for losing and we don't not reward someone for winning. I agree totally. This playoff schedule was designed because there were several years which had multiple undefeated teams. At this time, there are 5 teams with undefeated seasons. Unless more than one of them loses, all of these discussions regarding one loss teams should be a complete waste of time and energy. Let the undefeated teams play it out. Each and every one of them deserves that.

At three Michigan and at four Washington. Now when these teams go head to head some of that will change. However where it’s messed up to me is having Oregon ahead of Bama when Bama has more ranked wins, a harder SOS, and a better SOR. Texas has a head to head win over us but if Bama and Texas played tom I think Bama would win BUT bc they beat us that has to be factored in. FSU will drop out of the playoff if and only if they lose one of the next 2 games. If they win out over an arch rival on the road and in the conference championship against a top 15 team then they will fully deserve to be in, you never know how a team will react to an injury or to they’re star player and leader. Funny how every thinks without Jordan Travis, FSU is doomed. They only have arguably the best receiving corps in the nation with Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman and Jameim Bell. Trey Benson is incredibly reliable and FSU's defense is lights out in the second half of games.

Mike Dubose was head coach, and despite the fact that he won SEC Coach Of The Year for the 1999 season, he would be fired at the conclusion of the 2000 season. The Crimson Tide ended that year at 3-8. Kid you not. In addition, Alabama certainly did not go to any postseason bowl game. What’s more, Alabama lost to Auburn. To me, the ultimate loss was at the Crimson Tide’s 2000 Homecoming: we lost to Central Florida AT Tuscaloosa!!!

Hey Matt, I want to respectfully disagree with your opinion on the 24-25 year old QBs in college. I have a handful of friends I served in the military with who went to college and played collegiate athletics after honorably serving their country. And these guys were 23, 24, and 25. It doesn’t mean you’re not good. It means your life more than likely took you on a different path for a plethora of reasons. That being said I love the content and thanks for what you do!

You guys can spin and weave all the possibilities and probabilities of who’s gonna do what but the bottom line to being in the final four to play for the national championship. This year will be the teams that are conference champions. If you were a conference champion, you have the best chance of getting one of the four spots that means Ohio State and Michigan whomever loses that game WILL NOT BE A CONFERENCE CHAMPION… And with that being said, one of those two teams should not be in the top four, because all the people around you will be conference champions, even with one loss. So play hard Ohio State and Michigan because the loser SHOULD NOT be in the final four. And one final note… If Texas wins out, they have to be in the top four if they do win their conference, and it doesn’t matter if Alabama beat Georgia or not. I'll take u to 2014/2015 j.t Barrett broke his leg. Back up QB took ohio state on to win the 1st ncaa playoffs. Cardal Jones was his name. They was given no chance vs Alabama in the semi finals. Then nobody believed they would beat Oregon with the hurry up offense. The buckeyes beat them by over 20. I'm not saying Fl state will do so. I'm saying anything can happen.

Truthfully, I have very little faith that an already struggling FSU team can win in the swamp and beat Louisville in back to back games with a backup QB. As for Alabama, I still think it’s very simple. Beat #1 UGA and you’re in. Committee doesn’t leave out a one-loss conference champ who just beat what they thought was their best team. I personally agree with the philosophy of not projecting in the rankings and going based off of resume. Otherwise your team record doesn't matter. I think, for example, Alabama is a better team than Florida State right now. But to rank Alabama ahead of them would be disregarding the first part of the season and essentially saying that it doesn't matter. There's a difference to me between power rankings and playoff rankings and I think playoff rankings should be based on team accomplishments to be most fair.
But it's truly not supposed to matter to the CFP.. Their motto is the 4 best teams. So they really should take in considerations for 1 loss teams who have had tremendous improvements, to where if the Bama team from week 2 was to play the current Bama team. This current team would beat them by 30 pts. That should be factored in if you are truly wanting to put in the 4 best teams. Like TCU shouldn't have been in the CFP last year, just because they were undefeated.
Truth is, there are a cornucopia of factors to consider, and there's no perfect weighting that can be ascribed to any of them. That said, teams aren't static throughout the year. Players develop, teams gel, coaches get fired, among other changes resulting in a team in Week 13 significiantly changed from Week 2. Certainly, disregarding entirely the first weeks of the season would be silly, but equating them to the end of the season would be, at least, just as silly. If Alabama didn't schedule Texas, and instead beat up a more middling team, such as South Carolina, Bama would be firmly in the top 4 right now, even if Texas *could* have beat Bama on that week 2. In such an alternate reality, football fans would scoff at any insinuation that Texas can beat Bama at this point in the season.
I think this is a really good way to put it except for the end, I think the CFP should be based off of a mix resume and wins, like FSU absolutely deserves to be in the playoffs over Alabama, but I think if they played Alabama would win easily if it were the top 4 teams just it would be Georgia Ohio State Michigan and Oregon/Washington/Alabama (one of those last three, I think there all pretty close)

Agreed I think it depends who is sitting on the committee to be honest. I do not think anyone tied to a college currently should be on the committee at all. It’s ridiculous that Michigans AD and several other school’s AD is sitting on the committee when it should be made up of people that know football but have no current ties to any school like retired coaches for instance would be fine. I would be A-ok with someone like Urban Meyer sitting on the committee because I know that man knows his football.

hang on brother. we know know how good FSU's backup is. He played the Louisville game last year and led the comeback after Travis got hurt. Tate has the better arm than travis does, he is just not as good of a runner. As a Noles fan i already knew even if we had Travis that it was going to be tough to go in to Gainsville and beat Florida, always has been and always will be with this rivalry, its just the nature of the beast and what this game is when you look at the history of it. The committee does use projection, just not in the way Matt examples...If they believe cinnamon rolls could win out without a loss, they'll keep them ranked no lower than 5. It's the same reason they keep two B1G teams ranked, they are projecting ONE will be undefeated by the end.

At three Michigan and at four Washington. Now when these teams go head to head some of that will change. However where it’s messed up to me is having Oregon ahead of Bama when Bama has more ranked wins, a harder SOS, and a better SOR. Texas has a head to head win over us but if Bama and Texas played tom I think Bama would win BUT bc they beat us that has to be factored in. So really the only thing I’m upset with is the commitee’s inconsistency. They had Ohio State over GA bc they said GA had less ranked wins at that time but then how do they explain Oregon over Bama?

FSU will drop out of the playoff if and only if they lose one of the next 2 games. If they win out over an arch rival on the road and in the conference championship against a top 15 team then they will fully deserve to be in, you never know how a team will react to an injury or to they’re star player and leader. While it can be very deflating it can also be the thing that motivates everyone else to rise to the occasion

Funny how every thinks without Jordan Travis, FSU is doomed. They only have arguably the best receiving corps in the nation with Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman and Jameim Bell. Trey Benson is incredibly reliable and FSU's defense is lights out in the second half of games.
Trav was better last year too. I hate it so much for him because he’s such a good kid and he didn’t deserve this at all. The team will be alright, tate will hold it down.

Hey Matt, I want to respectfully disagree with your opinion on the 24-25 year old QBs in college. I have a handful of friends I served in the military with who went to college and played collegiate athletics after honorably serving their country. And these guys were 23, 24, and 25. It doesn’t mean you’re not good. It means your life more than likely took you on a different path for a plethora of reasons. That being said I love the content and thanks for what you do!
I think we are all just anxious, knowing the fact that there will be drastic changes in the top 10 within the next few weeks. And we all just can’t comprehend it just yet. Gotta love college football.

You guys can spin and weave all the possibilities and probabilities of who’s gonna do what but the bottom line to being in the final four to play for the national championship. This year will be the teams that are conference champions. If you were a conference champion, you have the best chance of getting one of the four spots that means Ohio State and Michigan whomever loses that game WILL NOT BE A CONFERENCE CHAMPION… And with that being said, one of those two teams should not be in the top four, because all the people around you will be conference champions, even with one loss. So play hard Ohio State and Michigan because the loser SHOULD NOT be in the final four. And one final note… If Texas wins out, they have to be in the top four if they do win their conference, and it doesn’t matter if Alabama beat Georgia or not. Because Alabama cannot rightly be in the top four if Texas wins out and has a conference champion because Texas beat them head to head IN Alabama at their house by 10 and everyone knows just how bad the voters and fans want to see bama in the final 4..

Truthfully, I have very little faith that an already struggling FSU team can win in the swamp and beat Louisville in back to back games with a backup QB. I personally agree with the philosophy of not projecting in the rankings and going based off of resume. Otherwise your team record doesn't matter. I think, for example, Alabama is a better team than Florida State right now. But to rank Alabama ahead of them would be disregarding the first part of the season and essentially saying that it doesn't matter. There's a difference to me between power rankings and playoff rankings and I think playoff rankings should be based on team accomplishments to be most fair.
But it's truly not supposed to matter to the CFP.. Their motto is the 4 best teams. So they really should take in considerations for 1 loss teams who have had tremendous improvements, to where if the Bama team from week 2 was to play the current Bama team. This current team would beat them by 30 pts. That should be factored in if you are truly wanting to put in the 4 best teams. Like TCU shouldn't have been in the CFP last year, just because they were undefeated.
Truth is, there are a cornucopia of factors to consider, and there's no perfect weighting that can be ascribed to any of them. That said, teams aren't static throughout the year. Players develop, teams gel, coaches get fired, among other changes resulting in a team in Week 13 significiantly changed from Week 2. Certainly, disregarding entirely the first weeks of the season would be silly, but equating them to the end of the season would be, at least, just as silly.
If Alabama didn't schedule Texas, and instead beat up a more middling team, such as South Carolina, Bama would be firmly in the top 4 right now, even if Texas *could* have beat Bama on that week 2. In such an alternate reality, football fans would scoff at any insinuation that Texas can beat Bama at this point in the season.
I think this is a really good way to put it except for the end, I think the CFP should be based off of a mix resume and wins, like FSU absolutely deserves to be in the playoffs over Alabama, but I think if they played Alabama would win easily if it were the top 4 teams just it would be Georgia Ohio State Michigan and Oregon/Washington/Alabama (one of those last three, I think there all pretty close)

Agreed I think it depends who is sitting on the committee to be honest. I do not think anyone tied to a college currently should be on the committee at all. It’s ridiculous that Michigans AD and several other school’s AD is sitting on the committee when it should be made up of people that know football but have no current ties to any school like retired coaches for instance would be fine. I would be A-ok with someone like Urban Meyer sitting on the committee because I know that man knows his football.

hang on brother. we know know how good FSU's backup is. He played the Louisville game last year and led the comeback after Travis got hurt. Tate has the better arm than travis does, he is just not as good of a runner. As a Noles fan i already knew even if we had Travis that it was going to be tough to go in to Gainsville and beat Florida, always has been and always will be with this rivalry, its just the nature of the beast and what this game is when you look at the history of it. The committee does use projection, just not in the way Matt examples...If they believe cinnamon rolls could win out without a loss, they'll keep them ranked no lower than 5. It's the same reason they keep two B1G teams ranked, they are projecting ONE will be undefeated by the end.
