SPARKS • KIMONO MY HOUSE • Live at Carling Academy 18 May 2008 - Complete, New Edit/Re-Construction

- So in the spring / summer of 2008 the most adventurous and constantly intriguing band Sparks embarked upon the unthinkable: performing every single one of their (at the time) 20 albums live in their entirety to lead up to the premiere of their (at the time) new album ‘Exotic Creatures of the Deep.’ This all took place in England and I’m forever jealous of those who were lucky enough to attend. I myself had literally just graduated high school in the States and could in no feasible way be there; however, those of who weren’t lucky enough to be there in person were thankfully able to watch the shows via live stream. Most of us have still been holding out hope for an eventual “official” release of these shows, where several of the songs performed were surely done so for the first and only time, but 13 years later…it doesn’t look promising. I got a little tired of waiting myself and had been wondering recently if it would be at all possible to edit a complete show from the fan-shot videos and so forth we have available thus far, and so this crazy project began. Thanks first and foremost to a generous anonymous source who sent me their rip of the 2008 live stream; also thanks to UA-cam users dcee73, Sparksfannr1, mistywrist, thatsuthatis, Sarah Tadman and Douger16 for their wonderful uploads here that helped not only get some better audio sources but more interesting fan-shot cutaways. You’ll notice some unfortunate video “freezes” in the webcast source, and it’s obviously not in fantastic quality (2008, remember) but this is sure to still be an absolute treat for any serious Sparks fan (and this is the only video/audio source so far available for the songs “Amateur Hour,” “Thank God It’s Not Christmas,” and “In My Family.”) No copyright infringement intended, all rights belong to their respective owners. I make no money from this project and it is merely a new edit by a longtime fan FOR the fans. Please enjoy and let me know what you think! All my best xxtyler

My first ever concert Sparks, Newcastle City Hall 18th of October 1975, Ron winked at me, best night of my 15 year old life.
Ohhh I remember it to, but I saw them at the Royal Concert Hall in Stockholm, also in october 1975. Ron did not wink at me, but I felt as if he was staring at me, best night of my 16 year old life
I would have died (swoon)😋
Great way to start!
Spare a though for Dinky from those days now long gone
You can tell Ron and Russel enjoyed this gig. Genius album from a genius band and the concert does it justice.
You mentioned Kant and I was shocked so shocked ... was a student at Manchester Uni when I bought Kimono my House - so witty and well constructed - Ron and Russel thank you for your eclectic genius - thank god it's not Christmas yet 😊
Everything about this is amazing. Such a strong album. Performed expertly many decades letter. 21 nights 21 albums…only Sparks could achieve a feat like this. Stunning.
One of the greatest bands in rock history!
- I wish the lyrics were there - still A + - so many heart felt thanks ! -
Thanks so much for this. Loved Sparks in the 70s, now, like many people, re-discovering them following The Sparks Brothers documentary. Saw them in Oxford in May, & still suffering post-gig blues. Thank goodness for YT videos which I can now watch endlessly to fill in my missing Sparks years.
Loved seeing this concert, & really envy those who got to see it. ❤
I was there! I was there! :-)
Who would envy you? Ha! Not me anywahhhh😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I could sell my soul to the devil himself to go back in time and have a ticket to all 21 concerts!! 💖💖💖💖💖
I am impressed that it looks like Russ Mael did these shows wo a teleprompter! Bass playing from Mr McDonald towers above each night he was on.
Definitely impressive, and if this performance is any indication, definitely no teleprompter: ua-cam.com/video/kKAgOkBqmsI/v-deo.html :)
I love this album & band 1974 i was in South Devon my mother took me to Plymouth to buy this album
Kimono a unique great album!
Annette is going to be a worldwide smash and give them an entirely new audience.
Well not exactly that, it even traumatized my girlfriend 😬😅 I liked it however, as a Sparks enthusiast
The 1st album i ever bought as a 10 year old ! Probably got me into 'Rock' music because of this !! Great Energy, Great Songs, Great Production on this album
Me too! I was 9. Saved up all my pocket money. The 2nd album I ever bought was Propaganda.
@@MurrayCowell I was given 'Propaganda' a few months later for my 11th Birthday !
Bless you for doing this
Thank you for this! Great effort wish they had recorded some of these shows professionally
ME TOO
Thanks so much I was there and it was just amazing
Thanks for this upload! What a glorious thing to watch. I'm still buzzing from seeing them in Oxford four days ago!
Thanks for the effort, much appreciated by this new fan. Equator is otherworldly in this performance
Equator and audience lots fun that was one my fave pieces Kimono still have a few copies on albums! As well as the 2 previous albums 😀early Sparks!
This is such a big deal, so I thank you. Also, I had Alice Cooper look directly into my eyes once. His were so green too. Beautiful stuff, man 🖤
Was a massive fan at school brings back brilliant times at the back of the school bike shed
Amazing job,Tyler! Bravo!!...

This is great. Thanks for sharing.
We have MOZ to thank for them performing this…
Ah, to have been at these shows… le sigh.
I meant steve McDonald
Looks like jeff McDonald from Redd kross on bass
50 QUINTESSENTIAL YEARS
I utterly love these boys, but some of their songs should be retired or reworked at this point. Russ just can’t sustain such a clean, high-pitched melodic tone like in Equator or This town ain’t big enough anymore. It’s painful to say but just true
He has some 'weaker' days yes, however in 2009 at the London Forum he hit every note in "Equator" when they played the "Kimono" and "Number one" albums full once again.
Whatever he sounds amazing
if they did this you would find another problem for them to fix.. The worst, you are.
