- Stephanie J. Block sings Scott Burkell and Paul Loesel's "The Ballad of Sarsparilla Safirovich" at the Kennedy Center on February 4th, 2009 as part of its "Broadway: the Third Generation" series. Allison Seidner is on cello; Paul Loesel on piano.
Scott and Paul wrote this song when they were toying with the idea of turning the movie "Ball of Fire" into a musical. The setting is a Manhattan night club in the 1930s where the musical's heroine, a stripper, has taken to the stage for her opening number.
Stephanie's many Broadway credits include "9 to 5," "Wicked," "The Pirate Queen" and "The Boy From Oz." Her debut solo album, "This Place I Know," is now available on iTunes and CD. It includes two songs composed by Loesel, one of which was written by Burkell.
This video is posted in cooperation with and permission from the songwriters. To learn more about the writing team of Burkell and Loesel, visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.co...
