    Today I head off into the wilds to search a area littered with exciting pottery and fragments of history . It was a great day. We had a lot of fun in the mud and found some nice stuff. Mudlarking the river Thames in London, mudlarking Kent the Medway. We always have fun! Drained river pond

    Those are some really cool remarkable finds, Adam! The cup you found at about 18:32 was a “ mustache mug” very popular around turn of the century when many gentlemen wore mustaches and such a mug would allow them to drink and keep their mustache dry.

    The Great Yarmouth cup has a moustache strainer on it, to keep it from getting too wet. Big bushy moustaches were very fashionable at the time so they started making those cups 😊

    The pipe is 143 yrs.old. Its an easy calculation for me, because you mentioned it was from approximately from 1880. I was born in.1980 so that's 100 yrs. and I'm 43 so 143 yrs. Lol I always enjoy your videos and thank you for taking me along on yours bottle digging adventures! Much love to you from North Carolina!!

    I love your mud larking adventures! If I was 40 years younger I would go with you! And the mug you found with the picture was a Mustache cup, for men with the huge mustaches, so they could drink without disturbing or wetting their waxed or curled facial hair!

    Likely already commented on-- that's a pumpkinseed flask (or at least that's what they're called in the US) and later, that cup is for men with staches- the inside bit to keep the whiskers out of the tea or coffee.

  • @stellap7624
    @stellap7624 10 місяців тому

    In the round up, I was waiting to see the mug you found cleaned up. You didn't know what it was because it had a piece over the top. That piece of ceramic is for protecting a Victorian or Edwardian moustache. The Man drinks whatever drink is in the cup, and his moustache stays clean, dry and keeps it's elaborate shape. Had you known what it was, you might have kept it.

    3:32 seems to be a girl on a chamber-pot. I have seen something like this with mudlarkers before, so it seems to have been fashionable to show girls in this pose at some time. There may even be a collection of different girls shown; perhaps? Thank you for sharing this experience...

    Everywhere I looked online showed ISTAR or I-STAR as something to do with the world of medicine, however it is modern medicine. I also found it referenced to Ishtar, however, I don't see how that would work with a bottle unless it was a label that was made by a priestess, and this one is embossed. Now I am crazy curious, so would really appreciate it if you would let me know when you find out the answer. Thanks! Great finds you all found, Congrats!

    I found this for G. Luce. Eau de Cologne
    By 1874, as indicated in the advertisement below, the business had been taken over by George Luce for his eau-de-cologne business, which would remain there until 1900, when the shop had become established next door at No 42.
    By 1900 the premises were occupied by Thomas Couch (1841- ), a hosier from Cornwall, although the exact occupancy over several censuses and in almanac records is clouded by the appearance of a No 44½ King Street, which seemed to be devoted largely to residential accommodation

    I thoroughly enjoy your mudlarking but I have to mute the music, it's too much, for me. I still sit in amazement when you pull something out of the mud and it's 100% intact. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? 100+ yrs of being tossed in the tides, buried for decades and it survives. Amazing!
