My two best friends and I would fight each other in this game while the odd one out narrated. We would run side by side through the bamboo as that person spoke and told the story. Stop and clash and the other person not playing keep adding parts to the story. It was a grand time.
Omg I remember me and my friends would run around and chop all the bamboo trees down lol. This game was so tight, wish Max would've tried some other modes and weapons or showcased some more moves. There's a lot of neat hidden stuff in this game
I love the originality of this game. I remember it being highly praised by the critics at the time. The bushido system is really cool. Basically, if you beat your opponent in "dishonorable" ways (strike him in the back, when he lays down or using cheap moves) you can only get a bad ending.
My favorite part of this game was that the versus map was all connected and you can run around the entire stages connected to one another. I'd do this all day as a kid and it was SO REALISTIC
@@SPACECOWBOY705 you should give some of them a shot if you have an opportunity. Some of them look very rough by today's standards, but there's a lot of fun to be had.
This game was my entire child hood. The only game I could ever get my mother to play with me. I'll forever regard this as one of the greatest fighting games ever. Thank you max, you really just brought me some amazing memories
To be fair that guy was a hired hand not part of the original six students of the dojo master. so he was more like a assassin hired to kill any of the students looking for answers if they might escape. That also the reason the other 5 tried to kill whoever the player character choose. however max got a ending you can spare all of them and kill only some or something like that...
Same thing with Samurai Shodown, you have a game called SAMURAI Shodown and you have a girl with bow and arrow that will just lame you out to hell and back. cuz that makes sense.
I remember my brother playing a demo on the PSX (from one of those PS demo discs that you get when you buy PlayStation magazines) for Bushido Blade, and I still remember the stage with the cherry blossoms and the high platform, and there was no music, just you and your opponent. But man, reliving this game is fun to watch! One day, Bushido Blade _needs_ to come back for the PS5, a blast from the past!
I had that same disc. Bushido Blade was one of those tip of the tongue games that I could not for the life of me figure out what it was. Literally all I could remember was it was some kind of eastern fighting game and that exact same Cherry Blossom stage. I think it was an Austin Eruption video about old Squaresoft games and when I saw the character select screen it was like my memory was just unlocked and came rushing back. Absolutely loved this game to death as a kid.
@@Luigicow92k I could not for the life of me figure out the name of this game either until I asked my brother and he told me the name, and I did my research, and voilá. There were also PSX games I couldn’t remember either until I talked to him, like “Heart of Darkness”
The problem with the 2nd game was that it did away with the block button. Instead, horizontal strikes would block vertical ones and vice-versa. It allowed the game to become a mash-fest.
Did he pick the gimped weapon at the beginning with the sledgehammer? Because I could swear the two or three hits he landed would've been killshots with a sword. They also, for the record, should've been killshots even with a goddamned sledgehammer. EDIT: Nevermind, he beat it pretty easy. Didn't get the good ending, though, wasn't honorable enough. Surprised the chat wasn't full of "DO IT AGAIN, DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME" spam.
Whats funny about this upload is i just played Bushido Blade for the first time a couple of hours before this was uploaded. A very great day this week!
As much as I love this game I still prefer the sequel more, it has 20 characters instead of 7, more weapons and environments, and a pretty engaging story.
One thing I loved about this game: If you look carefully at Max's character after he's killed, you'll see their eyes open back up when Max hits "Continue." Always creeped me the hell out.
The world exploration for a fighting game is actually top notch. I believe all the arenas are connected in the story mode so you can run from one map to the other.
I like to thank Max for playing this. Now if legends are to be believed every time Max plays an old game the chances of it being remade increases astronomically.
I've always wanted them to remaster this game. It was such a cool concept and the sounds were awesome. The graphics at the time were cool too but I I'm imagining it hi res and get excited.
I bought a PlayStation 1 from eBay to play a handful of my favorite games and this is one of them. BB2 is slightly expanded and perhaps better constructed but a copy of 2 is far more expensive than 1 ATM.

Wish they made a modern version of it
Bushido Blade 2 was one of my favorite games for the PSX. I remember one of the boss battles being against a guy who'll teleport every time you hit him. I also remember the 100 kills mode. Needless to say many a summer nights were spent playing that game with my brothers and my friends. Ergheiz on the other hand....
It was only a glimpse but, in the final fight I saw the recreation of Ben Kenobi laying down his life. Dojo Master (tm) lowering his blade, in a slightly jerky motion, and Max Tannuki giving a wild horizontal swing, as Darth Vader, to cut him down. Pure movie in a video game magic.
Wow this game bring back memories every time I would go over my father house me and my uncle would always play the demo version of this game. I freaking love this game thanks for this Max
I remember that the optimal ending involved running straight for the well then only honorably killing or wounding the opponents found inside. No backstabs, running attacks or attacks on downed enemies were allowed.
ah man, i remember the struggles to get the true endings for each character. you had to beat it without getting hit and with a "clean" victory (no throwing dirt, no dirty hits like in the back or during speaking moments). Damn this game was a trip, especially trying to unlock Katze with the gun by beating the 100 man mode
One of my all time favorites. A remake would be lovely but for anyone who hasn't tried it Deadliest Warrior 1 and 2 are possibly the ultimate versions in this genre. Each unique and fun. Please try if you haven't Maxx and discuss on the channel.
Oh Bushido Blade, nice. Now I want to see you finish "slash mode" :D I did it twice in the past. Was quite tough, but also a lot of fun I remember when I played this game again with my friend after more than ten years, we found out you could face a secret final boss, depending on the way you fight. To experience something new after the game has been out for so many years felt kinda awesome
I actually appreciate the quietness of Bushido Blade. In real life, there is no soundtrack. Just You, your opponent, and the sound of grunts and weapons clashing!! This is the fighting game I want a modern remake of the most. I still love how there’s no UI or HUD during the fights.

Bushido Blade 2 has a woman in the bikini with an m-16 assault rifle.

All the behind the scenes story mode mechanics were killer in this game. You had to fight in such a specific way to make it through.
I like how everytime you lose, depending on where you got hit, there's a bandage at that area. That's pretty cool c:
you can also disable peoples legs and arms so their movement/moveset is diminished
