It took 4 YEARS Capturing THIS picture - Wildlife photography from floating blind

- Ever since I started my beaver project I wanted to document the beaver on land feeding. Photographing the whole animal up from the water has been a long awaiting dream. It only took me 4 years to make this happen. In freezing cold water inside a floating blind, I spend 2 hours doing wildlife photography.
My persistent paid off and I made my best photos of the beaver.

I love long term projects. Especially when your dream comes true. What are yours ?
I’ve seen emus and koalas in the wild in the past six months and now I want to see budgerigars and platypus
For the past 4 or 5 years I've gradually been building up a collection of bird images where they've been out in pouring rain and are completely soaked. The best ones are when the rain is still falling and you can see it in the image.
@@vk4vsp Thats awesome!
More dreams than projects at the moment other than Badgers and Foxes at home but I will make them all come true 😉
@@paulwoodford4974 I hope so! Good luck!
Thank you Trond. Only wildlife photographers can understand how it feels, when finally the dream comes true after a long time of waiting and doubting if you really have the right spot. These days people consume these perfect shots on instagram in a second not understanding the work behind. Thanks for sharing. Hope many people see such videos to understand what beauty we are surrounded every day not looking at it. Well done ❤
I know the feeling, waiting for the beaver. I’ve waited forever for beaver. Most men I know and some women have spent a good portion of their lives waiting for beaver. And when it shows up, always worthwhile. 💯🤓👍
World-class images achieved with enormous patience and utterly heroic levels of determination to deal with the cold and the wet. The world of wildlife photography needs to honour you in so many ways.
Wow....thanks for the kind compliment.
You did absolutely the right thing to show the lengths to which you are prepared to go to fulfil your dreams. Thankfully my tears were joy and not the cold :)
Thank you so much for your compliment.

Your professionalisms and persistence reflects in your fantastic images Trond.
Much appreciated.
Yes, indeed! Thank you, Trond....hope you're not down with a death of a cold!!Don't they line those skivvies with insulation!?!?lol
A tribute to perseverance and will Trond! It was worth persevering. As always, the video is great!
Thank you so much!
Phenomenal results after many patient years! Truly inspiring!
I am glad that the beavers in Munich, Germany are much easier to film at minimal distance of 2 to 3 meters. Cool pictures :-)
Beavers are incredible animals.
I wonder if many years ago there might have been a beaver pond there, that in time filled with sediment, went from a pond, to a marshy wetland and a meadow. Now maybe returning to a beaver pond once again.
Amazing shot of the beaver in the icy water and on the ice.
Spectacular, the video and the pictures are just amazing. Stunning.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed
You don't just get pictures like that. This is probably a hard job even for a professional photographer. I hope you haven't caught a cold! But the pictures were worth it. Beautiful as always.
Thank you so much for the compliment Heini! :)
It doesn’t matter about professional or amateur. Good photographs are just that. Excellent work Mr. Westby. I waited two years for a picture back in my youth, and got it. I’d do it again if I still had the horsepower (smile). I always wanted to get a shot of a beaver right as it’s tail slapped the water. Never did, but someone probably has.
Bless your heart.
NICE. Great, clean images of the beaver. No distractions, just clean, precise, close portraits with great detail. Lovely.
WOW, What a treat, beautifull wild shots, thank you, love your work.
Thank you for the compliment.
Absolutely stunning images. Hard work paid off.

I love Beavers they are always very busy doing something, you captured it brilliantly.
We live in the country near a river, and the other day there were two Otters playing together in the water, time to take my camera down there,😂😂.
Thanks again, see you next time 😊

Great video as usual Trond, knowing the pain of using floating hide in icy water it´s funny how fast you get warm when you finally get the shots you wanted! congrats to the shots!
Thank you so much Andy!
You don’t know this, but this was a nice coincidence to see your video about beavers within hours after I just came home from my annual trip to photograph beavers myself. I didn’t have quite as good of success as you did. Congratulations on finding and photographing them!

Dear Trond, I love your personal reports and your great pictures. Thank you for all the insights and inspiration. And yes, I've been filming the blackbirds in the garden for months and am getting closer and closer to them. There aren't just black, loud birds, but real personalities. Many greetings from Bernie
Thank you so much for your support and kind compliments. Thats awesome with the black birds.

Thank you so much!
Fantastic Trond! What an experience and what amazing images of this wonderful animal made by our great Creator.
Beautiful and amazing work, as always, Trond! Tolerating the cold really paid off
You are the epitome of wildlife photography .Some amazing work.
wow....thanks for the compliment.
Thank you for sharing and for chasing a wildlife picture that's not of a bird!
Well done. Your patience certainly paid off.
Wonderful achievement Trond. Patience and persistence, keeping the goal in mind. I use power-packs that are also heaters. Very handy to just help keep you from losing too much heat. I find heated jackets don't last long when giving you heat and some make you sweat which doesn't help if it's cold.
Congratulations ! Greetings from France . ☀️☀️👑
Is that a hommade water blind Trond? Super cool. Great shots and keep up the good work. 👍
Thank you Kevin! No it is from Tragopan :)
Another great video Trond
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it.
Amazing.
Incredible! Absolutely incredible. Amazing images. Your best. From Australia I just can't imagine that amount of cold.
They say no pain no gain! and well that certainly paid off with those fantastic images that you will have to go a long way to better, Just Brilliant Trond......have you tried those battery headed vests etc.....that does look a bit NIP 🥶
Yes,😅 but my legs where it was coldest
Wow, you are one AMAZING dude, you inspiring me not be lazy and take some difficult pictures Mate. Many Thanks keep em coming.
Thank you so much for the compliment.
excellent!
Awesome work.
Thank you Nigel!
Congratulations! Those are truly wonderful stills and video. I thought the still photos of the beaver near the end where it hadn't shaken off yet were beautiful. The patterns in its fur were amazing somehow. Thank you.
Absolutely fantastic shots
Beautiful shots and a well-deserved success. Congratulations👍
🙌 bravo
Thanks!
Gratuluję CI determinacji. Powodzenia !
That floating blind in the middle of winter looks more like a good way of catching hypothermia than beavers but the photographs make it worthwhile.
Haha....its a bit rough indeed. But I survived ;) Thanks for the support
@@trondwestby5264Your own health and safety should remain a priority, what good a nice photo if you end up in hospital or with arthritis when you are 70 years old
Wow, respect and amazing shots 😍😍

"Nice Beaver!" - Leslie Nielsen
Beautiful! Thank you very much for sharing
Extraordinary work. And I don't just mean the end result. Your motivation, your sincere passion, your love for what you do, that drives you day after day, even when nothing happens, when you are unlucky, when a thousand other problems might discourage most. It gives me a sense of peace to know that your work has been rewarded in such a touching way. You have my admiration for the deep faith in what you do, for the perseverance you invest in what you believe in, for your experience that shows humility, intelligence, perseverance. I believe that these gifts, potentially, are within the reach of many of us; yet very few of us actually achieve our goals. You are a demonstration of what many others could achieve by truly challenging themselves, with sincerity, hope, and deep wonder at the beauty we can still find in the world. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing us what you love.
Wow! Stunning pictures of the Beaver on ice, Trond.
Thank you so much!
On the news recently, here in the UK, the county of Kent, where a enclosure was built to contain a family of beaver, it was reported that Kent now has the largest number of wild beavers in the whole country, some beavers have escaped and are living free as it was hoped😊
Wonderful! Than ks.
Fantastic
Spectacular, your hard work finally paid off. Thanks for sharing ,Trond.
Beautiful
Great work
Thank you!
I’m so happy for you and thank you for showing the world the beauty of our wildlife in action❤
