It is the unreleased work with Angelina became the triggering point for him to self-produce his songs. I could feel his frustrations back then when none of those songs he worked with Angelina who he describes the best voice, the best artist he ever worked with made it to the EP. Imagine he has worked with some of the biggest artists we have today and for sure he has songs for them that never made it to their EP/album...but none of them became his turning point until it happens with his work with Angelina. And that speaks a lot of how big a deal it is for him the collabs they did 2 years ago.

It’s great that she had this collaboration with Toby, but that doesn’t mean she has to put all her eggs in one basket. In my mind, he is the one that should be honored.
Flat out, Angelina stated backstage before her first audition for Norway's Got Talent, that she was
going to be a superstar. To see that look of unbelievable confidence on a 7 year old girl, who was
just about to go on stage before a national audience and a huge studio crowd that was led by four
professional judges, amazes me to this day. One thing has been a constant with Angelina, from her
first performance to the present, and it is simply that she has no fear and knows she is special.
Chris I also don't get the small number of AJ fans who are negative about Toby. What combination of warmth, humanity, humility, talent, drive, hard work,sense of humor, etc. is there not to like??!! Not to mention his clear admiration for Angelina and recognition of her incredible talent.
Some people are just irrational, and there is nothing you can do about it (at least not without a long, careful personal conversation)
My impression is that he genuinely cares for Angelina, that he loves working with her, that he actually is somewhat in awe of her. So hell, he's just like me, but with more class and, lord knows, more talent...and I've never even met her, etc. We are lucky the two of them are working together.
There are people in the world who don't understand what others can do, so don't care about these people. Better go the way of light 🕯️ how Angelina always tells us

It all still comes down to promotion, getting her name out there and getting people to hear and see her. I don’t know if that’s something Toby can do since that’s not really his job (except for If I Were a Boy). Maybe there can be more appearances with him to get her more exposure.

Thank you, Chris, for posting this interview. It meshes with what Toby told me at the Vibrato: that he doesn’t think that RR is actively promoting Angelina. He thinks RR has too many artists.
Now, we know Rob Christie likes Angelina, he was there for the Vegas concert. It may just be that RR just wants to keep Angelina “under wraps” for a while longer. Who knows?
I’ve also heard that Angelina is tied with Sony, also. Maybe that’s complicating things? Again, I know nothing about “the music business”.
I’m just ready to go to the next concert! I’ve got lots of Frequent Flier points just itching to get used! lol!!!
@@adairmartin Sony is her, and Toby's apparently, publisher. Which handles any songwriting ( eg collecting royalties) efforts and is different from a label.

Thanks, Chris, we needed to hear that. He is definitely an 'angel', isn't he? We always speak about how humble she is and what is always so glaringly obvious is that she is such a good listener. We have never seen her rude or interrupt someone, have we? Working closely with her formulating musical moments must be a true awakening moment for anyone in her presence. I will always say that as much as we love her so much the admiration the musicians have for her is at another level. They become immediately aware they are exchanging ideas with a musical genius and I believe that's exactly how Toby Gad feels. only Angelina...

Thanks, Chris, really enjoyed Toby interview with BBC. It certainly reflects positively on Toby and the ongoing collaboration. I still don't know if Bad Valentine is one of the eight that he worked on with AJ, but it's certainly obvious that he has a great deal of respect for her and for her talent. I wonder if we will ever know what nixed those 8 songs from her EP, or how they got that past Angelina. I really don't care for the dark undertones to all that.
Toby has confirmed to James Thiel that "Bad Valentine" was one of the eight songs..

Fascinating interview.
Toby mentioned releasing songs that he worked on with other artists that were never released. My concern is if he would take some of the songs that he worked on with Angelina and record them with other artists. That’s basically what happened with BC Jean’s If I Were a Boy. The demo was rejected by the record company and the record deal eventually fell through (or the label went under). Toby then took the songs they wrote together and marketed them to established artists. As the recordings he and Angelina worked on are probably owned by UMG, he can’t release them on his own.
Hopefully they will eventually be released by Republic. These songs are probably already a year and a half old.
Makes you wonder if there any other already recorded songs that are yet to be released especially since she was initially working on an album, not just an EP.

Amazing video Chris, ❤, thanks so much. I agree that does sound like Angie calling him, and the tone he used, suggests republic decided which songs went out. We better not have to feed them all of our pitchforks and pry her loose of them one day. If they can't help her break out, and all they do is keep her down to 6 songs a year, and she wants more, then they aren't worth sh t. In the way. No amount of networking ease, and experienced minds makes up for keeping a lid on her, or not believing in her. So far they are just cutting into the money she could have been earning just doing as she was then. This better have some sort of end game from them. Like an album they want perfect in every way, including timing.

Hi Chris 👋 Thanks for this insightful Video with interview by Toby ! Ialready knew some things but not quite ! Only my personal opinion I don't know exactly how it works in America's music industry? In my earlier days as a singerc😮 here in Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy and Austria, if you were a good singer 😮 you always had a gig at the weekend! But your level of fame was never as high as it is in the media in America! If I had been born in America, I would have taken my singing 😯 career a lot further! Today's music industry 🎶 is a dark, evil business, a "Demon"! It is precisely because Angelina is so young, such an exceptional talent of the generation, that she has it harder!!! It sounds crazy, but unfortunately it's true! In the future, Angelina could damage the careers of many successful singers 😲, including those at Republik Records! They are pushing them out of the scene and that is what the "music producers are afraid of"! Republic Records too, because they have other singers 😲 under contract who, if Angelina is promoted more, will pale in comparison to her!! and that would then have to do with "loss of prestige, fewer appearances and loss of money!! So promoting Angelina and the others losing is not a good move for one of the biggest music labels 🎶 in America? Everyone wants to keep RR, promote them and make money! It's always about business 🤷♂️ and power! That's my opinion from experience - the way things work in Europe on a smaller scale! Toby was very angry and even had a nervous breakdown when he wrote 8 songs with Angelina in February last year and none of them made it onto the EP that came out in the summer! That was "consciously controlled by RR"! Because Angelina is under contract with RR! The 6 EP songs were all produced by RR in the studio with her selected musicians and co-writers together with Angelina!! If Toby had assumed his 8 songs had also been on the EP ! the second section would have been very much Angelina's, which would have been an LP benefited ! and with these additional 8 songs it would have become an LP with 14 songs ! 14 songs are too many for an EP ! EP = 2-7 songs! RR was worried that Toby would become too strong with Angelina so early on ! Because Angelina was only 17 back then in February 🤷♂️! That's why Toby, because he wants to be independent now, has his own producer for his project "Piano Diaries Album" (with RR's consent that Angelina can sing the Beoncey song and Bad Valentine in Caffe Jesse and friends! but not anymore!) If Toby is very successful with it, all the singers 😲 are involved, not Angelina alone, and therefore there is no danger for RR! Now it will be clear when the new LP comes out how much influence Toby had ! and how much influence Angelina and Republik Records had ! And how will Republic Records market and promote Angelina in the future with or without Toby! The more success Angelina has with Toby! the more famous and successful Toby would become if he continued to work with the "world's best" female voice 👩😲🎙! And what does Republik Records profit "OR lose" from this? We'll just have to wait and see ! Because as a good singer 😮 I know that Angelina cannot and must not stay under the radar !! Because she is world class 🌍 👍👌👏 ! and must not be reserved for the whole world 🌍 all people who do not yet know Angelina!! She must be heard because? Angelina "MUST" deliver this Mission! Message! of Love 💖 Hope 😌 and Peace🙏 for a better World 🌍 That is what Angelina was born for, that is her "DETERMINATION" Calling! That is my spiritual ✨️ and musical 🎶 opinion! It sounds like Toby’s work with Angelina, starting at age 16, was for her music with Republic since he expected the songs to be on her release. Bad Valentine is apparently one of the 8 songs they worked on. She contacted him. He was just one of several producers she was working with at the time. I think there are 3 different producers on the Old Enough EP. I seems that the only song she’s worked on with Toby independently is If I Were a Boy since that was part of a Toby Gad project.
I would expect that when Bad Valentine is released it would be through Republic. And the other music Angelina has teased is coming soon could also be through Republic. Maybe some of the songs she worked on with Toby. We shall see.

Makes me wonder though, if they actually are deciding not to push Angelina so strong so as not to overshadow other artists, is she still considered one of their top priority artists? That was 4 years ago. A lot can change in 4 years.
Is the fact that Angelina and/or her family are still taking her career very slowly changing Republic’s plans for her?

Her EP was Angelina's statement on the next phase of her life, a beginning statement to her fans of some of the past and her view looking forward which makes sense that it would come first. The thing I look at is I am not sure that Angelina would have broadsided Toby like that without some type of conversation of why, if my first idea is correct maybe before it was completed. Some day we may find out.

I have noticed Photos of Angelina with a whole list of Grammy winners. Republic seem to acting as a musical match making service with Angelina. I think they are trying to find compatible people that Angelina work with and can gain the wisdom and experience from them in how-to turn her great songs into commercial hits. The general public do not seem to realise thats how most artists write songs as collaboration sparks creativity and artistic cross pollination of ideas help artists not to burn out or get into a slump.

I have to think that if the decision to not include her work with Toby on the EP was totally AJ's decision they would not still be working together. Hard to tell why that decision was made, but could have been the long play to hold back and release at the optimal time for Angelina's career.

EPs don't have room for a style change for something different or doesn't feel the fit. Her EP has a very specific vibe to it and dropping in a different song just may seem odd.
That’s true. We don’t know for sure until it we hear from Angelina or someone else in the know, but it seems very likely that the plans to release a full album changed, and it was decided to release an EP instead. Whose decision and why? That’s the question. After the release of Love Don’t Let Me Go was the first time we heard about an EP. Before that the term album was used.

I believe Old Enough was a thematic EP that told a particular story that was very meaningful to Angelina. It's possible that the songs she wrote with Toby just didn't fit with that theme.

Sorry, I’m losing interest. I went to Las Vegas and saw both her shows. She was great. (To many old single men thoughI). I have watched her grow up and every time in the past every performance topped the last. I was in shock and awed by her talent and emotional delivery. Old enough was an amazing work of original material. Amazing. AND NOW THIS, Milli Vanilli. I’m sick of Toby Gadd, tired and bored with her family and her wealth. This interview is a good example who cares, it’s such bullshit. Songs are not novels they take hours to write. Maybe days if you’re Dylan. I keep checking back, but it’s getting worse and worse. Screw Toby Gadd
