That explosion effect when you hit the monster's head really makes you feel that the monster feels the impact with every hit. In Rise I felt like I was hitting a rock or concrete. lol Nice gameplay man. This also shows us how GU/XX is still alive nowadays. I, for example, am playing XX with a friend via Citra Multiplayer since he doesn't have a Switch or a PC to play on Yuzu etc. So I play MHXX on Citra just for him. Playing MH with friends is much more fun. haha

Since I was playing with my friend, we left at 4* quest and went straight to Hub to rush all the keys quest until we unlocked the Hyper Monsters. Now we're at G Rank farming Rathalos X set. That's actually in XX since he can't play MHGU because he doesn't have a PC.
i think guild style is considered to be the most meta compared to the rest of the styles, esp if you have both absolute evasion and readiness for self defense
Hammer is always good in every game if you actually know how to use it..ppl only think its a matter of swinging when there actually is combos and whatnot
love hammer, wish i was better at it in gen u, but in world when i killed fatalis during a run where i was only trying to learn its openings for hammer i ended up killing it!!! already cleared AT velkhana, last monster on my list is alatreon (I’ve only ever killed it with longsword)
If Capcom were to decide to recreate the old maps in an open-world style similar to Monster Hunter: World, it could be a great idea. I really enjoy the atmosphere of the old maps.

That is literally what they did in Rise, my man. They renamed the maps but they're the same ones from second and third generation (apart from the citadel and shrine ruins, which are new).
Bro is talking about GU as if it's old X.x I also didn't feel like GU had the intimidating monster feeling you're talking about. The only times I felt that in the past was Mh Tri and Mh4u (Mh4u endgame mostly)

Old gen Hammer is fun and better (in my opinion) than 5th gen hammer. I used it a lot in 4th and 3rd gen, and I’m currently starting FU with hammer (farming kut ku ears, it doesn’t want to drop them)
Back in my day monster hunter was about perserverence and skill. The game didnt skimp on causing the player inconveniences. Monsters were predictable and learning their attacks felt cathartic. Nowadays the capacity to press buttons is enough to get by
I was like, how do I do the golf swing in this game? Then I realized from a guide on the combo lines, that STRIKER does NOT have GOLF SWING. My god. . . this game can be frustrating like that, but also... rewarding when you learn.

I'd guess just recently especially with rise is when hammer got good with insane poke, ko and even some aerial utility. Still, I've yet to learn much about lore and history about the franchise to understand much prior to this comment
Rise also has a major problem with endgame content monsters, aka afflicted, have such insane KO buildup that hammer doesn't really get to knock out more than once a hunt. It's still great in World, not as dominant on the speedrunning end as other weapons time wise, but still very fun for speedruns. In Rise the extra effort needed to make it good is very showing, just doesn't feel quite as good as it used too imo. I've only been playing it since 4u though so someone else may have greater insight
Hammer is the most consistently good weapon in the series, it has always slowly gotten stronger each game, but unlike other weapons it didnt get completely buffed to the moon for zero reason. So it kinda got left behind come rise.
@@OdinDOUCShammer was my first weapon and I started in 4U. You are right on the spot with this, it used to feel very rewarding to play but as the difficulty spiked it just felt like you were getting nothing done. Partially the reason why I went back to GU myself.
Hammer still isn't that great in mhgu, you're showcasing a crimson fatalis hammer though and the weapons in that line are just godly with the blast element. Not to mention you're solo in a double hunt which lowers the health of both the respective monsters. Honestly MH:World and Iceborne's hammer was pretty dang good.

At least is not SnS, in almost every game the strongest SnS has the same attack as the weakest hammer xD No, like, literally. I played Freedom Unite the strongest SnS is like 300-400 attack, the weakest hammers (Iron and Bone) have the same attack amount.

It still feels good but it doesn't give you that buildup in your guts.
Hammer was and still is my favorite weapon in the series, but nowadays anything hammer can do, there's something that can do it better.

It really wasn't. Hammer is comparatively weak in gen4. It was really good in Gen 1-2
GU Hammer is still bottom mid tier damage vise. And Guild is the meta style
tbf gen U was when almost every weapon was at its finest and strongest.
thats because the various styles helped a lot with covering the flaws off each weapon and making them super fun and balanced

The illusion breaks when you turn segmented maps into open world maps. The scale will feel considerably smaller.

Hammer has always been good, it’s just not stupid broken good. All World and the newer games did was add to the moveset.
