  • Kimekomi (Yes, I pronounced it incorrectly throughout the entire video - yikes! My apologies - I had written it down wrong and really mangled the pronunciation.) Kimekomi Ornaments are a spinoff of the almost 300 year tradition of kimekomi doll making technique which originated in Japan. The traditional technique involves inserting fabric into grooves carved into a wooden doll form, creating clothing for the dolls.
Today's tutorial is a modern variation of this technique, using a foam ball instead of wood. The orange slice design is a nod to the tradition of Christmas oranges, while also being very beginner friendly.

Thank you for the tutorial. I enjoyed it very much. I love crafting and this is something I've never done but it looks like something I'm going to enjoy doing. There are so many seasons that you could use these for by just changing up the colors. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Then the holidays, Valentine's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I'm so excited. 😁 ❤

You are so welcome! And yes! This would be so fun year round. And you can leave off the ribbon and group several together on a bowl as table or shelf decor. I'm already itching to make more!

Yes, I have tried a small butter knife. Didn't like it for me, but I know others do like it, so definitely use whatever you prefer.
