The soldiers that died in the war were in the thick of it and had no choice. Skill didn't matter at that point when you have nowhere to run and fight to the end.
similar to the famous picture of H meeting with his top Luftwaffe aces, i've noticed over 80% of the most skilled fighters survived the war surprisingly, despite having been seeing the fiercest combat for 5 years straight. you'd think these fighters would almost all die but they defied the odds and proved skill played a significant difference.

Kurt Knispel was overlooked for the Knights Cross due to being quite insubordinate and disrespectful of authority, I recall reading somewhere once. Similar situation to Blair Mayne being denied the Victoria Cross.
The VC needs another officer to witness the bravery. The SAS only had one officer per operational group. It’s even worse now. The UK SAS are just sergeants . Not so the Australian SAS who operate in larger groups with officers. The Australian SAS get VC’s as a result.
We could do with these men in Britain nowadays Britain army and navy can't even defend their own borders with people invading in dinkys they are a disgrace to their uniform

You are confusing something. Lafayette G. Pool had 258 total _armored vehicle and self-propelled gun kills_ but only 12 confirmed tank kills. Massive difference. This list is tank kills only. 12 tank kills wouldn't even put him in this video if it included allies.

Still feels surreal to see that some of those guys fought in WW2 and survived past the year 2000 or atleast close to it.
They were often 20 or so when the war began hence 80 in 200 and I don't know the ratio of 80 year olds who reach 100 but it's less than 1%

Quand on regarde les scores des tankistes , des pilotes de la lutwafe , des commandants des U boats ils ont fait des performances exceptionnelles on doit dire qu ils etaient dans le mauvais camp pour un regime maudit .mais c etaient des sacres soldats on ne peut que les admirer il a fallu une coalition mondiale pour les vaincre 😮
Il faut dire que beaucoup d'entre eux ont fait ces énormes scores sur le front est, où les soviétiques envoyaient tout en masse sans se soucier des pertes (ce qu'ils font toujours aujourd'hui).
