  • This is a long term review of the Juliana Furtado / Santa Cruz 5010. Biggest changes:
    -It's longer
    -Mullet wheel pairing (29" in front and 27.5" in back.)
    -Additional travel in the fork making this a 130/140mm travel bike.
    She's still playful but as you can imagine, these major changes have grown her up a bit. She's got a more serious edge on the downhills but she still knows how to have fun. And I still love the way the Furtado climbs. chef's kiss
    What I love:
    -Juliana's progressive suspension keeps things playful
    -29er up front which rolls cleanly through otherwise wheel swallowing pits. It also rolls neatly up techy climbs and ledges
    -27.5 wheel in backs cuts tight, fast corners nicely and helps keep the Furtado "flavor"
    -130mm travel in the shock, and progressive feel keeps this bike joyful to climb on
    -140mm of travel in the fork along with this longer version of the bike makes it more keen to haul down hill at high speeds. But it's still fun for getting a air off of roots, rocks and rises in the trail. It's different, but I like it.
    -High stack keeps this bike playful, aggressive on the climbs and has it's advantages on steep descents too.

    I bought the 2022 BronsonMX and Santa Cruz has hit this generation of bikes out of the park! The mullet setup is the dream imo. I wouldn't of minded a shorter travel bike for mellower trails but the last 3 weeks I've hit fast, steep, and steep technical trails instead of my normal trails and the bike has shunned. I'm still a strong believer that's it's 💯 better to be over biked!
    You killed it on the tech climbs.

    Hot take: Juliana and Liv have better colorways than most brands on the market these days.

    I recommend running 27.5 front and rear by just running a Lyrik ultimate or a fox factory grip2 150mm fork.

    Great to see you riding. Here in Utah we might not be riding dirt for a while so I’ll watch and dream. Thank you.

    Super helpful review, I've been looking at the Juliana. your comments at the end around a newbie on a really nice bike resonated more than I can say. Love getting out, it's a challenge for me that I love and I just want to get better. My hardtail I love but the opportunity for full suspension I'm stoked by. So Juliana or Ibis or even Pivot, I just keep learning & riding. Thank you

    Really great review!
    I think it should have come with a bashguard/chain guide, which can really save the day and save a lot of money from broken parts. They barely add any weight, and they add it in the best place, the front triangle.

    • @dustybettymtb
      @dustybettymtb  Рік тому +2

      100%! I've never needed a chain guide, but a bash guard is worth its weight in gold in Rocky terrain and if the two come integrated, I guess why not?!

    Kona Process 134 does a 27.5 with 130 travel. If I ever get another MTB it'll probably be a Process. I usually ride a xs but fiddled about on a size small and was shocked how well it fit.

    • @dustybettymtb
      @dustybettymtb  Рік тому +1

      Sizing can be an interesting thing to play with for sure. Some bikes I size up or a size down depending on what I want to use it for. I've heard such good things about the Kona process. I would love to throw my leg over one of those.

    Thanks for this review!! I am torn between this mullet version Furtado and the Yeti sb135 27.5… which build is this? Do you have any opinions on yeti vs Furtado ?

    I’m curious what you think about this new set up vs the spicy redwood straight 27 you reviewed a year ago. Is it worth the upgrade or would you just skip the mullet and have the 27 and 29 separate?

    That's so weird I get the exact opposite feeling Santa Cruz is more plush and pillowy and Ibis is more stiff. Ibis just seems to react quicker to every bump still soft but Santa Cruz is softer in my opinion. Maybe it's the suspension setup. On my Hightower I prefer the fox rear suspension it's more fun. I had an ibis ripmo for a year and a half and loved it, it just was never as plush

    • @dustybettymtb
      @dustybettymtb  Рік тому +2

      That's crazy! Maybe it's suspension set up (as you said.) Maybe difference in rider weight too? The Ripmo is like a magic carpet for me. Mine loves to stay planted too. You can get it in the air pretty good for a bike it's size, but it takes more body English for me than a SC or Juliana. I feel like Ibis suspension is more linear in it's feel.

    • @bullseye0112
      @bullseye0112 Рік тому +1

      @@dustybettymtb yeah the ripmo is so good it's almost boring. It felt way more active than the Santa Cruz but maybe part of that was the wheelbase being shorter. My new 2022 Hightower is like a pillow ride 90% of the time except when it gets super rowdy. I actually had to put volume spacers in the rear shock to make it more progressive.

    How does the rear suspension handle square edge hits going uphill? Does it get hung up a little or does it flow right over? I'm loving the idea of a taller stack height than my Ibis Mojo.

    • @dustybettymtb
      @dustybettymtb  Рік тому +1

      That's such a great question. Because it's not squatting into the suspension when you're trying to climb, I feel like the rear wheel pedals through stuff pretty efficiently without getting hooked.
