I love the way she found out about the love triangle of cardigan, august and Betty. She’s so smart like I totally didn’t get any of this from my first listen.

If you are really interested in the meaning of the song "the lakes", I highly recommend the video of English Teacher KP. She made a wonderful analysis! The song is packed with references to the "lake poets" of England and it refers back to a trip Taylor and Joe made to get away from all the madness.
JESUS CHRIST! When I listened to this album for the first time, my emotions took me all over the place and there is no way that I could have understood the songs you did on the first listen! You even connected the love triangle right away 🤯 Do the same for evermore ❤️
So happy to see this when I turned on the TV this am. Folklore and evermore are masterpieces. They were written by Aaron, Taylor, and a little Jack. BAsically, the instrumentals were mostly written by Aaron. He sent his folder of ideas of instrumentals, some he had for years, to Taylor. Taylor wrote all the lyrics and melodies. About half the songs on folklore and evermore are not true stories, just songs about fictional characters and fictional stories. Half are more personal, but half are completely fictional.
You don’t have to react but I think it’s worth to watch the Long Pond Studio session where she goes into the meaning of the songs and has an even more acoustic feel and it’s just more heartbreaking. Loved your appreciation for the album and how on point you were with your interpretations.
Joe actually was singing the entire fully formed chorus of betty on the piano and taylor heard him from the other room and was like lets write this song together!
Can't remember who it was but I was watching another reaction and they said something about how Folklore/Evermore were a test to see if we could get on board with big words and complex thoughts and then we got 1989 but big brained with Midnights as our prize and YES! Can't wait for the Midnights video and if you haven't listened yet, you're going to LOVE it!!!! It's gotten mixed reviews but it dethroned my previous favorite Taylor album, Speak Now!
You are intelligent and beautiful and very engaging! You get the lyrics and their meanings. That is why Taylor has a massive, loyal fan base. She is so good at painting pictures with her lyrics aside from being a good performer and singer. Thank you for these reactions!
I watched this reaction video ages ago (right after it was published) but I had to come back to comment. As a post-folklore swiftie myself, I laughed so hard when watching your jaw drop while listening to the first few songs! :D Yep, you are going to feel that aaaaall the way. This is me trying is one of my absolute favourites and I think anyone with adhd or otherwise neurodivergent can really relate to that song. Also, I don't know if I should worry or if it says something about me but I always gravitate towards songs about forbidden love (august, illicit affairs, and ivy on evermore).
James said "I'm only 17, i dont know anything" and Betty said "when you are young they assume you know nothing. But i knew--" and proceeded with verses of things she knew at 17. She called out on his BS 😃
Also how the world views a female and a male. Like james tries to justify the cheating by saying that he's young and doesn't know anything. Where else betty sees right through his narrative, but people are dismissive and they assume she know nothing.
I just saw your reaction of the two first songs but im gonna comment now cause i would have way too much to say otherwise. Your reactions are always one of the BEST on youtube. I love your analysis of The One and how you named it your favorite even tho there is so much to come 😭 og this will be the best video reaction, i love it already
The songs that always make me cry in this album are Seven and specially Epiphany. But the track 5 is not necessary the saddest but the most personal to her. The story of Seven i THINK its fictional. And even if its not, the really hard time was lived by her old little friend at the time, she didn't really grasp what was happening until many years later. And with Epiphany it talks about her grandparent and the was in which he had to fight in, and also the health service and how they had to fight first row against the covid. Tay didn't really suffered that as strongly as they did. The 5th one here is My Tears Ricochet cause it was a betrayal of someone that FOR YEARS was like family to her, and who took EVEYRTHING from her.
Great job on first listen! I didn't know about a love triangle til the next day lol. The girl from August is Augustine. That's what Taylor called her in the Long Pond Studio Sessions. James, Betty and Inez are the names of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's kids. They are very close to Taylor that the kids call her auntie lol. And when Taylor said in her head Betty forgave James, I was super disappointed. Betty should've kicked him to the curb lol. But whatever, it's Taylor's perspective. She's silly like that ☺. Overall this album won AOTY (album of the year) among other awards to it. After her tour for Lover was canceled due to the pandemic, she was bummed about letting her fans down and at the same time all the crap she was dealing with about her masters, she needed to vent. She gained perspective and had to get creative. She already had alot to say and putting out a surprise album was it. The fact that Taylor won awards due to her being locked in her home means she can write about anything 😂. If she was alone in her room with only a carpet she'll probably write something so deep about it like where it came from and how it got passed down to then it ending up with her... I mean, she's a GOAT.
Thank you so much for your reactions, they're the best ❤️ I've been listening to this album since its release and still with you I discovered something I've never realised before. Also the way you figure out the meanings and pick on some lyrics and details on the first listen and explain things is so impressive!
Cardigan was the first song I ever listened to with the intention I was a starting out Swiftie cuz my cousin introduced me. It holds such a special place in my heart. I still remember the awestruck way I felt when I first heard it. I was thinking “if this is her sound,” not knowing how much I’d love ALL her genre sounds.
the lakes really references poetry btw. Romanticism era especially. From what i understand romanticism is characterized by strong emotions, love for and connection with nature, as well as hate for industrialism??? and love of the past. This song clearly has all of that. Not to mention that a lot of poets from that era went to the lakes (considered to be the prettiest district in England) to spend their last years "take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die". But imo the the most insane line is the Wordsworth line that you were talking about. William Wordsworth was one of the most famous romanticism writers and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if she wrote that whole line just to put his name in the song.
Gab!! I just love your reaction!! I love that you always pay atencion to the lyrics! Folklore is soooo amazing!! I hope you reat to EVERMORE soon, its a sister album, folklore is more summer and evermore is more winter!!
Taylor said “This is me trying” is a nod towards mental health. People don’t see people’s daily mental struggles. They don’t get applauded for not giving up.. no one can see how much they are trying to keep their head above water or not take that drink.
I love your Taylor Swift reactions, you are amazing at analyzing the meanings and your love for the material is heart-warming. Thank you for sharing this!!
honestly im so impressed by ur reaction, like u pretty much got more than half of all the clues like u understand everything :)) its hard to get it from first listen especially from reactions. Also, taylor said that folklore was all about all these different kinds of conflicting emotions and then evermore is like the processing of these emotions and other just conflicting emotions
One of the most sad things of the triangle Betty, James and Inez is that in "August" Inez says: "Summer love" to refers James, but in "Betty" James talks "Summer Thing" about her. Betty know everything about James and even that was enough for him, but, in other hand, Inez only had a small part of him and tries to make bigger for justify her love (because of that august is so repetitive).
At last!!!!! The Organic Atmosphere Experience that take us by the hands of words and music in this journey to Her ❤️ discovering our own ❤️ s with Her Mastermind !!!
So with in TLGAD when she states she had a marvelous time ruining everything, when she first moved into Holiday House, the house had sat empty for 50 years so she had to do a lot of renovations and fix the wall on the beach. A lot of locals were pissed off about the construction and loss of access to her now private part of the beach. Along with the big parties and such she would throw (like the previous owners). Additionally, some man on some board tried to implement a Taylor Tax just for her moving into the neighborhood. It was denied, of course but it just caused more strife with Taylor than locals already had.
You have to watch "Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions". She doesn't just sing the songs in the documentary but also gave more comments on each song! It definitely confirmed a lot of theories(eg. the love triangle) we, as crazy swifties, made.
So, about Seven. A lot of folks in the US who have a deep brook or a small river will hang a swing or a tire on an overhanging tree. You swing, and jump in the brook or swimming hole or pool. here is the lyric again. Taylor wasn't saying she hit a personal peak at 7 years old; she was at the high point of the swing, over the creek. She _was_ just 7 years old. Please picture me //In the trees// I hit my peak at seven feet// In the swing // Over the creek Very nice reaction, overall! Take care.
Cardigan is speculated being a song to her fans and how people turned in her in 2016 Also this whole album is speculated being about her losing her masters and being betrayed by her label
Taylor say’s The name of the girl from august is augustine, she also explained once that she wrote the songs from all 3 perspectives because she wanted people to know that “the other girl”which in this case is augustine is always painted in a bad light but augustine wanted nothing but love from james she did not want to ruin betty and jame’s relationship she was also just a girl in love just like betty even though james cheated on betty with augustine she was not a bad person and jame’s just broke both of their hearts
will you be reacting to Fearless TV sometime? Unless you already did and I missed it but I don't think so. The reason I'm asking is because you reacted to Red but Fearless was actually the first re-recording and it also came out before Red in general. It was her second album. And also since all signs point to Speak Now being the next one and that is her third album, thought you might want to check Fearless to get into the vibe and be all up to date beforehand
Yess I will:) After I listened to 1989 I asked on patreon whether I should do lover or fearless next and the first won. So I’ll go back to her earlier discography after evermore and midnights:)
About Hoax, Its definitely about Taylor but said its about a mix of people. She is not talking about one person in particular, but about a bunch of people that once made her feel sad. And she is talking about are you worth all this pain? cause EVERYONE will make you feel sad once in a while. The question is if they are worth it. For example she talks about Scott Borchetta (not worth it) but also about his boyfriend Joe (totally worth it). Aron Dressner suffers depression, and about his perspective its the question to his wife, is he worth all the pain that inevitable will come to her because of his depression? PS: excuse my english
William Bowery is Joe, he used a pseudonym so people would listen to the music before knowing he helped write and produce it!!!!! Literally the cutest couple EVER!

Did you react to midnights yet? I couldn't find the video on YT but i think i saw some snippet on TT...
I did yes. The full length it’s on patreon for now but I’ll post the shortened version on yt after evermore:) Oh really? Did someone share smth?

About Hoax, Its definitely about Taylor but said its about a mix of people. She is not talking about one person in particular, but about a bunch of people that once made her feel sad. And she is talking about are you worth all this pain? cause EVERYONE will make you feel sad once in a while. The question is if they are worth it. For example she talks about Scott Borchetta (not worth it) but also about his boyfriend Joe (totally worth it).
Aron Dressner suffers depression, and about his perspective its the question to his wife, is he worth all the pain that inevitable will come to her because of his depression?
PS: excuse my english
