I just have a question: if FSU was considered to be so bad because of Travis’ injury that they are no longer the same team, then why did the committee rank them above Georgia and Ohio State? If FSU is good enough to be considered better than a Georgia team that lost one game in two years, then how can they say they’re not good enough to compete in the CFP? Edit: moreover, if the argument is “we want the best four teams in the CFP”, then why play the games? If a group of 12-15 people are gonna make a decision anyway?
Is it fair Georgia had to face Alabama for the SEC Championship while FSU got to face trash Louisville? If they want respect, join a real conference. Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC while Washington and Oregon are joining the Big 10. FSU wants to stay in their cupcake conference and get an easy path to the playoffs.
Well the thing is if Alabama didn’t beat Georgia, FSU would’ve made it. The reason they put Texas in was because they already beat Alabama. But if Alabama lost there’s a high chance that Texas doesn’t make it in and it’s FSU at 3 and Georgia falling to 4 or vise versa.
Can you honestly say that Florida State was the best team in America when Travis was healthy? Would Michigan or Georgia have needed to survive against Boston College? FSU is signficantly flawed. Losing 1 player doesn't make you a two touchdown underdog to UGA.

A loss near the end of the season caused a big drop in ranking since the pre-BCS days. Georgia shouldn't be surprised. To be fair, had Alabama lost to Auburn, Georgia would be in the #4 spot over FSU. That's how the SEC bias works.

They keep bringing up TCU but TCU won their first playoff game.. and with FSU do you want to talk about the last two weeks but with Alabama you only want to talk about one week and not the struggle they had with Auburn…
Forreal. When Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan or Notre Dame get blown out in the CFP it’s no issue. But when an outlier like TCU does (after winning a game!) it’s a problem. So annoying

There is a such thing as a high quality loss. Losing to West Virginia by 10 is not equal to Georgia losing against Bama by 3 points. Its just not the same.
@@matthewsdonnellyyou are talking like these are regular teams. This system is biased and corrupt. Alabama or Georgia shouldn’t get any passes for losses bc they have a top 5 recruiting class every year. Yeah they should and are expected to win every game. They need to stop giving them passes
Not true. The run on the whole story for that is out of context you stripped to make the argument AGAINST FSU. 12 team playoff DOES NOT fix BCS no more than this Current system. None of this will ever be fixed until and only until The SEC Bias is forever done away with. Until that happens a 20 team playoff schedule will still be the same BCS joke as is the 4 team. This gets fixed, not magnified in the same. 12 team playoff magnifies the same. THAT is the point.
Also FSU is complaining that the ACC doesn’t look strong enough so FSU gets left out. Guess what program has been spearheading killing off the ACC for the last few years? Guess which program actively wanted the ACC to fail so they could get out? FSU’s chickens came home to roost. They thought the ACC was a lost cause, bad mouthed it to everyone that would listen, and now when they need the ACC to appear strong it doesn’t.
The main issue with college football is that there are ten "leagues" which are incorrectly called "conferences". The fix is to create one league realigned with eight geographically based conferences and do not allow independents. Each conference determines their regular season champion. All the conference champions advance to a three-round playoff. This solution requires no committees and no polls. You wouldn't always get the eight "best" teams, but you eliminate subjective opinions. This solution requires the current conferences to give up power, so it will never happen, but it would solve the issues we face today.
It then creates the same issues with a single power hungry entity in control that exists in the NFL. Look at how flawed and power hungry the NCAA is. Now imagine they got all of that power. It's good having separate individually run conferences. The expansion next year fixes these issues. You have the 4 main champs automatically in then 8 at large bids. It's similar to a slightly smaller NFL playoff, the only issue is the NFL had 32 teams competing. The NCAA has 133 to pick from. The playoff committee has actually been great I feel like other than the number of teams allowed to be selected into the playoffs so going to 12 makes it as perfect as it can be without going to a 5+ round playoff system which would be simply unhealthy for young players and further diminish the meaning behind big games in college. Because if everyone gets in then no game matters until the playoffs.
@@lawless7859 The team that will go to the Orange bowl will not be the same roster and you know that!! And I said and I will quote " BY THE END of the season FSU has the best defense in the country.
If you can go undefeated and not make the playoffs don’t bother. Take advantage of your scholarship or do what it takes to get drafted. Screw attempting a playoff run in college ball.
Michigan under harbaugh has beat some great Ohio State teams, a good Notre Dame once , and a decent Penn State several times. But every time a great team from the SEC plays them they lose.
Yeah, they're kind of just letting their mask slip. I don't understand how Cincinnati can get a playoff birth simply off of principal while denying FSU one on an extremely subjective technicality.
Sure but that fact is softened when you remember the committee giving TCU special treatment to have their abysmal playoff pick look better. They should have played Georgia round one. I hear so much about SEC bias and Bama bias but we can clearly see TCU losing a game yet somehow not moving in the rankings like everyone else. The four best teams were not delivered last year.
We’re not ignoring that. We’re highlighting their demise against Georgia. The committee don’t want to gamble with a possible championship game like that again!!
It was all about the money. Michigan vs. Alabama is as attractive a college football match-up as there could be. It's a rematch of the 2000 Orange Bowl which featured Brady, A-Train, Terrell, Shaun Alexander, etc. Michigan vs. a depleted Florida State team would have done as poorly in sales and ratings as this year's World Series did in baseball.
I would LOVE to see FSU’s defense get a chance against Michigan. But even if they got blown out, they earned it and should have been picked. A bunch of guys’ opinions should not override the results on the field. Human opinion also said Oregon should beat Washington by 9 or 10 points and look what happened.
@trevthegamedev difference is, human opinion gave Washington a decent chance, it just said it was more likely that Oregon would win. For FSU, all the rational thinkers are in agreement that FSU had no shot
Pat, that paragraph you read could easily be interpreted as. In case of emergency, (No SEC in the playoffs) we have the right to chose who we please ( the SEC) not based on the games but our corruption and our partners (ESPN's) leveraged opinionated biases and talking points. (SEC)
Here is how you can tell if the decision was bad, if FSU was in and Bama was outside looking in there wouldn't be any controversy outside of Bama fans. Power 5 undefeated and won their conference simple as that they did their job and it should of been a no brainer.
Pat McAfee has been the only one who has been able to explain this in a way that i can at least understand. I dont agree, but he has a valid point of the reaction the Michigan players had to hearing the news. Though maybe they had that reaction cause they stole FSU's signs and not Alabamas 😂
I keep hearing from Stephen A about 29 straight games won for Georgia (and yet they lost to the team they usually lose to, no big suprise). How many games straight has FSU also won? Nobody mentions that.
That would be 19 and I totally agree with you.. Let me throw an extra fact in there FSU is 4-0 the last two years against the mighty SEC... But those FACTS don't matter only 12 people opinions did... 🤷♂
I hate when people say FSU would've gotten killed if they got put in. That's bedsides the point. They won every game on the field, and they deserved the chance to prove if they'd get blow out or not. You don't know until the game is played. That's the whole point of playing the game and competing in the first place. It wasn't pretty, but they kept winning after Travis went down. It's a shame they didn't get the chance to show if they could keep it going or not.
They play georgia you will see then. Alabama didnt have their QB situation figured out and they were buried. Then they figured it out beat the top dog and Florida St lost their QB . Of course that’s not possible…
as for SAS i dont think tcu is the only team in ncaa history that got washed in a championship game. some part of this process needs to be decided on the field
there's been plenty of blow outs in the past, including BCS era, but not to the tune of TCU. That was utter embarrassment. I believe TCU earned it as they beat Michigan, who beat Ohio State, who gave Georgia a run for its money. At the end of the day, game needs to be settled on the field, and TCU just got destroyed badly. I can only thin of USC beating of OU back in the BCS era that was in 50s vs teens. 65-7 is no joke.
Nobody doesn’t really want to say it so I will. FSU defensive was going to stop Michigan and they knew it. FSU was going to win the championship. The issue is that they actually believe that they are helping instead of telling them why don’t you beat them because they haven’t been beat because someone is going to lose anyway. Stupid.
All I heard was "they have criteria set up so that they can just pick whomever they want based on $$ and no one can say a thing about it because no one knows the criteria". And SAS is right...college ball has been unfair forever...but that justifies things continuing as is? Miss me with that nonsense
If we’re gonna talk about Michigan’s reaction to getting Alabama, we gotta talk about the one guy clapping. That was JJ McCarthy, who was relieved to not be facing FSU’s defense.
Michigan's reaction was "business as usual". The Wolverines opened up as 3 point favorites against Alabama. Michigan is the best team in the country and arguably America's team after the Florida State debacle.

Ga was the most deserving team and genuinely think the best actual squad and would have won it all. They go undefeated for over two years, barely lose to Alabama, and drop to six. The committee wanted to avoid seeing a three-peat.

The NCAA chose tv ratings over the integrity of the game. The NCAA killed the ACC and made it no longer a P5 conference. Is this college football or American Idol? We have a panel of judges that decide who has a chance to win the National Championship. That’s not football. The NCAA robbed the FSU players and coaches of a chance to prove their team’s place on the field. That’s against everything we are taught growing up playing the sport. There are underdogs that win games. OSU won a Champ with their 3rd string QB. An elite defense and running game can win championships. Why would any team or player want to play in the ACC after this?
Alabama could have lost 3 games this season...go to the SEC championship...win it and they still would put them in the playoffs over an undefeated FSU...SAD BUT TRUE
That's the case every year with Bama. They deserved it this year because they beat Georgia, but I don't think Georgia after being undefeated for 2 years, lost by 3 points shouldn't have been left off.
This is a easy fix. If you win your conference big or small you should get into the playoff. Winning your conference should matter ! Next year that's 9 conferences. Thats 9 teams. Then let committee take remaining 3 at large teams. Then let committee seed them. Committee only job should be picking 3 at large teams and seeding them all thats it. Less committee and more let it be decided on field is better. This year your 12 teams wud be 1 Mich 2 Wash 3Flst 4 Bama 5 Texas 6 Liberty 7Smu 8 James Madison 9 Boise st 10Miami OH . Then 2 at large teams 11 Uga and 12 OH st.
Bama LOST to Texas. Bama almost lost to 6-6 Auburn except for a last second 4th and 31 pass into the end zone. Bama almost lost to 4-8 Arkansas. Bama almost lost to 7-5 Texas A&M. And even benched their starting QB for a bit early in the season because he wasn't playing well. What are we talking about?
That’s what’s crazy they act like that didn’t happen, thats what irks me , SA quick to say FSU didn’t look good against Florida with our backup, but ignore the same day Bama got a miracle against 6-6 Auburn who just lost to New Mexico st . 😂
Lets just say it. ESPN has a big contract for these playoffs & Alabama has an easy road to getting in every year because ESPN thinks its best for business especially considering the billions Disney has lost since 2020.
Why did the CFP committee wait three weeks to demote FSU? Travis was injured on November 18. Committee ranked FSU in the top four for two more weeks AFTER Travis was injured. Funny how it happened only after Alabama upset Georgia creating a reality the SEC would not be in the CFP. (I already know the answer, but I want to see others take).
Oh my god. Stop bringing up 2014 OSU. It is not the same situation by any means. Ohio state had a 35-21 loss to Virginia Tech. They needed the "style points" to make up for losing the starter and that loss. FSU was undefeated.
Why does everyone keep saying TCU didn’t belong, but yet they beat Michigan in the semi final?? MENTION THAT GUYS! You’re saying Michigan must not have belonged either? Which means they picked 2 of the wrong teams last season
The same Bama who struggled with South Florida ,and used a miracle to beat an Auburn Team who had just lost to New Mexico yeah OK!!!! And the same FSU who Beat 2 SEC teams this year. How many hands does it take to massage the SEC . You get the point this whole panel was delusional
I did want to point out that I think Michigan reacted to seeing Bama being 4 because they’re shocked as an undefeated team that another undefeated team got hosed. As many, many other brands around college football reacted as well. The way they put the cameras in the watch parties…just all seems staged
No one's forgetting that, but there's plenty of "barely beat" to go around, including FSU who barely squeaked by unranked Boston College by 3. Washington barely beat Oregon State by 2, and barely beat unranked Washington State by 3. Michigan looked weak against unranked Maryland. Texas barely beat unranked TCU and unranked Kansas State. Stop making emotional arguments. FSU is NOT one of the top 4 teams in the country, and frankly should have been ranked below Georgia and Oregon. Do you honestly believe they could have won against any of the CFP top four when they struggled just to get past Louisville? C'mon.
@@DavidBlalock-n1k You're just picking the "barely beat" game that fits your narrative. Georgia's last 2 games they barely beat 6-6 Georia Tech and lost to Alabama. Unless you're some know-it-all that's made millions gambling on college football games because you KNOW what these teams will do when they actually hit the field, you don't have any validity arguing for teams that lost games vs a team that didn't.
We're doing a lot of talk about Alabama, but the bigger question is TEXAS over FSU. Bama beating GA gave them their spot. They talk about not wanting to have another TCU incident, yet Texas is coming from that same conference that was an embarrassment last year. This isn't about "We don't want another TCU incident", especially when their conference hasn't been on the level of most of the ACC or any other conference for a decade. I hate FSU as a Miami guy, but it's an attack on FSU and the ACC right now from these idiots on the committee
Texas over FSU? That's easy; Texas beat Bama. In head to head, Texas was always going to be ranked higher than Bama. Bama beating Georgia solidified Texas getting in the CFP. If Bama got in, Texas would need to be in at least 1 seed higher. FSU with Jordan Travis keeps Bama out. Texas still gets in as the 4 seed.
Alabama beating Georgia is more an impressive and a recent win than the Texas win over Alabama.. The CFP rankings should be [1] Michigan [2] Washington [3] FSU [4] Alabama [5] Texas [5] Georgia..
@@kingknights5107 So, you believe head to head doesn't matter when both teams have the same record? Literally every analyst disagrees with that statement.
We all thought a 4 team Playoff would end all the BS, yet here we are. A 12 team playoff won't be any different. They'll simply fill it up with Big Ten and SEC teams leaving other conference teams to fight over the 9-12 spots. The fix will only be more apparent.
This is the biggest problem with the argument that "Alabama is a better team than FSU" You are still saying that if Alabama lost to Georgia, Alabama would still get in, cause they are a better team. Because you can't say no cause they will have two losses. Cause now you are basing it off record. This is why everyone fighting for FSU, fan or not, says you are throwing out the record. Everyone who is ok with this is saying, "Right now, you can't say FSU is a better team than Alabama" In saying that, you are saying, that whether they are conference champs or not, they should be in cause they are a better team than FSU. Is Alabama and Texas a better team than Washington? Why is Washington not 4th?
Of course Shannon sez Alabama- what a homer. I can’t wait to see if Michigan was afraid to play Alabama- I would think they would not want to play FSU as losing to them without their QB is like losing once again to a TCU story
Let’s talk about the offensive line and defense that has a bunch of 1st team athletes ! Yeah it sucks not having Travis sucks and hurts but a battle tested team is what FSU was and defense wins championships not offense! So a team that got caught cheating and 2 1 loss teams getting in over them is bull crap
Then why hasnt "the best 4" criterion been applied all season. JT has been hurt for nearly a month and FSU was still above 1 loss team. Are you saying only now is Alabama a better team? Also, dont see in the criteria what the previous years results were.
The BCS is more dependable than a committee!! The BCS was a computer model that took in the best teams, SoS, SoR etc. The BCS was not influenced by feeling, thoughts, emotions, and so on. People will say: well, this team is undefeated and won their division championship, why would the BCS count them out? If said team won their division in a not "Power" league, yeah, that team will be left out. How is that fair? It's not. Those teams need to apply to better conferences. An Alabama/Georgia/Ohio State etc would mop the floor w/ an undefeated team from, for example, Big Sky Conference! A 12-team playoff is UNEQUIVOCALLY ATROUCIOUS!!! All that is going to lead to is a 13th team going undefeated and left out. Then, that is going to start a snowball effect that will lead to a March Madness in late November or early December! There isn't enough time in the day to point out how BAD this will be for college football! There needs to be a new BCS module for an 8-team playoff. NO COMMITTEE!!

An injustice has happened to FSU. A bigger injustice would be for people not to stand up and do something about it!! i'd say oregon is out. they got two losses. i would argue why not throw in liberty at this point given they are undefeated? or plenty of other 1 and 2 loss teams that might be better for sure, but to carry the FSU logic, liberty can be given a chance in an expanded playoff field. but i agree, even a 6 team playoffs with 1 and 2 bye would've been great.
Really? Comparing the 13th team left out of the playoff next year to FSU. FSU is undefeated. They did their job. Alabama barely beat a 6-6 Auburn team. Just say it. A whole team effort doesn’t matter. Defense doesn’t matter. The system is flawed. Stop defending it. Alabama’s past success is what we’re looking at here. Really? Tell that to the FSU seniors who could have gone pro last year but stayed for the opportunity to compete in a title game.

@@Lazarus-nw1vewhy wouldn’t a 12 team playoff fix it? SEC bias or not FSU would have been in the playoffs if it was 12.
@@Lazarus-nw1ve 12 team playoff fixes it. at some point, you are what you are, and i'd even argue top 8 is good enough.

People will say: well, this team is undefeated and won their division championship, why would the BCS count them out? If said team won their division in a not "Power" league, yeah, that team will be left out. How is that fair? It's not. Those teams need to apply to better conferences. An injustice has happened to FSU. A bigger injustice would be for people not to stand up and do something about it!! Top 8 teams in a playoff would be fair...include Ohio State and Oregon because they have claims too.
1)Michigan vs 8)Oregon
2)Washington vs 7)Ohio State
3)Texas vs 6)Georgia
4)Alabama vs 5)Florida State
I know wishful thinking, but cmon man!!
i'd say oregon is out. they got two losses. i would argue why not throw in liberty at this point given they are undefeated? or plenty of other 1 and 2 loss teams that might be better for sure, but to carry the FSU logic, liberty can be given a chance in an expanded playoff field. but i agree, even a 6 team playoffs with 1 and 2 bye would've been great.
But just like Pat says here...an 8 team playoff sounds fair unless you're the 9th team. It's going to be unfair no matter what.
Or maybe Michigans reaction was because they were expecting fsu and feel fsu was robbed vs oh no we got bama.
After all these years, people are still acting like college football rankings are supposed to be “fair”. It’s never been that, and we have the same debates around the issue every time a good team misses the championship/playoffs.
What about bama almost losing to auburn? And being 3 to 3 at half against USF Stephen A?
And only beating 4-8 Arkansas by 3 at home
Apparently Stephen A Smith has a selective memory
I think people are tired of seeing Alabama and Georgia, let new blood in for a change.
My question is this. If Jordan Travis hadn't got hurt and FSU went undefeated with Texas beating Bama and winning the Big12. And with Bama beating Georgia. Would they have screwed FSU or Texas? Just to get an SEC team.
FSU. They would've put 1. Michigan 2. Washington 3. Texas 4. Georgia. Guaranteed.
@@jjwats12thats exactly what they would have done. Fsu was going to be left out no matter what just cause they struggled the last few games
@@GeorgiaNole - Yep. Every team struggled. But when Bama struggles it shows their grit, determination, and winning culture. When FSU struggles it shows they're weak. Never mind FSU was 2-0 against the SEC and the ACC was 6-4. Gotta have an SEC team in.
@@jjwats12 when LSU beat BAMA 9-6 it was considered the best defensive game of the year. But when FSU shuts down Louisville offense who averaged 30+ points this year all I hear is how bad fsu is. No love to the Dline.
Which in my opinion fsu Dline is the best Dline in the country.
@@GeorgiaNole - I remember that snoozefest as well. And with Tate at QB, we'd at least have scored in the 20s. There is no one on any side of this debate that thinks a 13-0 Bama who won their conference with a 3rd-string QB would be kept out of the playoff. No one. The committee is ridiculously biased.
Stephen A. would've left the 2001 Patriots out of the playoffs when Drew Bledsoe got hurt.
Texas and Bama will be out first round. FSU’s defense is better than all the teams in the “Invitational”
Fine…. all you are saying to those kids is “I don’t want to play that team in the playoffs so I will just go out and break some arms and legs!” Way to teach our young people values!!!
Georgia should’ve won but Kirby always turn stupid when he play his old boss smh
Honestly I don't see how any of you can watch college football. It is so corruptible its insane. You're telling me if I win all of my games in a good conference I can't go to the playoffs because im not in the SEC smh
