Not really, every team that loses drop in rankings. Unfortunately for them they loss at the end of season but I do get it. Should be some liency if the loss is in the conference championship. But still, if u don't win your conference, should u really be playing for a national championship?

A loss near the end of the season caused a big drop in ranking since the pre-BCS days. Georgia shouldn't be surprised. To be fair, had Alabama lost to Auburn, Georgia would be in the #4 spot over FSU. That's how the SEC bias works.
I just have a question: if FSU was considered to be so bad because of Travis’ injury that they are no longer the same team, then why did the committee rank them above Georgia and Ohio State? If FSU is good enough to be considered better than a Georgia team that lost one game in two years, then how can they say they’re not good enough to compete in the CFP?
Edit: moreover, if the argument is “we want the best four teams in the CFP”, then why play the games? If a group of 12-15 people are gonna make a decision anyway?

Is it fair Georgia had to face Alabama for the SEC Championship while FSU got to face trash Louisville? If they want respect, join a real conference. Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC while Washington and Oregon are joining the Big 10. FSU wants to stay in their cupcake conference and get an easy path to the playoffs.
NCAA got it right FSU just needed to not let travis get injured or have a better backup. they failed at that so they deserve to be out.

If the injury was the only issue then the 2 weeks prior rankings should not have had FSU at 4. That’s my biggest issue as a FSU fan.
Well the thing is if Alabama didn’t beat Georgia, FSU would’ve made it. The reason they put Texas in was because they already beat Alabama. But if Alabama lost there’s a high chance that Texas doesn’t make it in and it’s FSU at 3 and Georgia falling to 4 or vise versa.
Can you honestly say that Florida State was the best team in America when Travis was healthy? Would Michigan or Georgia have needed to survive against Boston College? FSU is signficantly flawed. Losing 1 player doesn't make you a two touchdown underdog to UGA.
@@Zenigundam They got left out because of SEC/Saban politics. The same committee tried their hardest to put a 2 loss bama team in last year. Milroe got benched twice for poor performance. tell me again, FSU should be left out because of QB.
What I take away from all of this is that rankings don't mean squat. It's just window dressing for fans. At the end of the day, the committee will take whoever they want regardless of what little number may have appeared in front of the team's name prior to their selection.
I'm not mad at them for selecting who they selected, but don't pee down my back and tell me it's raining. Just let the fans know that the rankings are our little fetish and have zero bearing on the selections.

They still got in because in their last game when Cardale started before the playoffs, they BLEW OUT their opponent in amazingly convincing fashion, while this year FSU went out in that same scenario and looked absolutely lost from start to finish, and it was noteworthy and surprising when they'd make ONE decent play against Louisville......... it's amazing how after ALL these years that people STILL don't realize "style points" matter when it comes to toss ups and close calls

Michigan under harbaugh has beat some great Ohio State teams, a good Notre Dame once , and a decent Penn State several times. But every time a great team from the SEC plays them they lose.

The main issue with college football is that there are ten "leagues" which are incorrectly called "conferences". The fix is to create one league realigned with eight geographically based conferences and do not allow independents. Each conference determines their regular season champion. All the conference champions advance to a three-round playoff. This solution requires no committees and no polls. You wouldn't always get the eight "best" teams, but you eliminate subjective opinions. This solution requires the current conferences to give up power, so it will never happen, but it would solve the issues we face today.
It then creates the same issues with a single power hungry entity in control that exists in the NFL. Look at how flawed and power hungry the NCAA is. Now imagine they got all of that power. It's good having separate individually run conferences. The expansion next year fixes these issues. You have the 4 main champs automatically in then 8 at large bids. It's similar to a slightly smaller NFL playoff, the only issue is the NFL had 32 teams competing. The NCAA has 133 to pick from. The playoff committee has actually been great I feel like other than the number of teams allowed to be selected into the playoffs so going to 12 makes it as perfect as it can be without going to a 5+ round playoff system which would be simply unhealthy for young players and further diminish the meaning behind big games in college. Because if everyone gets in then no game matters until the playoffs.

It was all about the money. Michigan vs. Alabama is as attractive a college football match-up as there could be. It's a rematch of the 2000 Orange Bowl which featured Brady, A-Train, Terrell, Shaun Alexander, etc. Michigan vs. a depleted Florida State team would have done as poorly in sales and ratings as this year's World Series did in baseball.
I would LOVE to see FSU’s defense get a chance against Michigan. But even if they got blown out, they earned it and should have been picked. A bunch of guys’ opinions should not override the results on the field. Human opinion also said Oregon should beat Washington by 9 or 10 points and look what happened.

None of this will ever be fixed until and only until The SEC Bias is forever done away with. Until that happens a 20 team playoff schedule will still be the same BCS joke as is the 4 team.

I hate when people say FSU would've gotten killed if they got put in. That's bedsides the point. They won every game on the field, and they deserved the chance to prove if they'd get blow out or not. Bama LOST to Texas. Bama almost lost to 6-6 Auburn except for a last second 4th and 31 pass into the end zone. Bama almost lost to 4-8 Arkansas. Bama almost lost to 7-5 Texas A&M. And even benched their starting QB for a bit early in the season because he wasn't playing well. What are we talking about?

Michigan's reaction was "business as usual". The Wolverines opened up as 3 point favorites against Alabama. Michigan is the best team in the country and arguably America's team after the Florida State debacle.

there's been plenty of blow outs in the past, including BCS era, but not to the tune of TCU. That was utter embarrassment. I believe TCU earned it as they beat Michigan, who beat Ohio State, who gave Georgia a run for its money. At the end of the day, game needs to be settled on the field, and TCU just got destroyed badly. I can only thin of USC beating of OU back in the BCS era that was in 50s vs teens. 65-7 is no joke.

This is a easy fix. If you win your conference big or small you should get into the playoff. Winning your conference should matter ! Next year that's 9 conferences. Thats 9 teams. Then let committee take remaining 3 at large teams. Then let committee seed them. Committee only job should be picking 3 at large teams and seeding them all thats it. Less committee and more let it be decided on field is better. This year your 12 teams wud be 1 Mich 2 Wash 3Flst 4 Bama 5 Texas 6 Liberty 7Smu 8 James Madison 9 Boise st 10Miami OH . Then 2 at large teams 11 Uga and 12 OH st.
Ga was the most deserving team and genuinely think the best actual squad and would have won it all. They go undefeated for over two years, barely lose to Alabama, and drop to six. The committee wanted to avoid seeing a three-peat.

We all thought a 4 team Playoff would end all the BS, yet here we are. A 12 team playoff won't be any different. They'll simply fill it up with Big Ten and SEC teams leaving other conference teams to fight over the 9-12 spots. The fix will only be more apparent.

So what happens if there is a dominant team with 3 losses (let’s say star qb is out first 3 games) then steamrolls rest of way. Should they be in over an undefeated team? Do regular season games even matter now or is college football really just a subjective beauty pageant?
What was the reason as to why this expanded playoff format wasn't implemented from the get go? I mean the CFP committee for sure had to see this kind of scenario come into play sooner than later
first they just used to vote on a Champion without any championship game, that was unfair so they implemented one...... then a championship game wasn't enough because there was no playoff to earn a way into it and that was unfair, so they implemented playoffs..... now it's unfair when a team is ranked #5 and misses the playoffs so they're expanding the playoff field...... does ANYBODY in the world think is actually gonna stop people from complaining about seeding and first rd matchups and who was ranked just outside and missed the playoffs etc lol probably not

FSU beat a higher ranked oppenent than Texas in the championship game... FSU should not have dropped to #5 and Texas should not have jumped to #3...Based on strength of record. Michigan should have been 1, Washington 2, FSU 3, Alabama 4. Even though bama lost to texas, Alabama should have been over Texas after beating the #1 team.

We're doing a lot of talk about Alabama, but the bigger question is TEXAS over FSU. Bama beating GA gave them their spot. They talk about not wanting to have another TCU incident, yet Texas is coming from that same conference that was an embarrassment last year. This isn't about "We don't want another TCU incident", especially when their conference hasn't been on the level of most of the ACC or any other conference for a decade. I hate FSU as a Miami guy, but it's an attack on FSU and the ACC right now from these idiots on the committee
Texas over FSU? That's easy; Texas beat Bama. In head to head, Texas was always going to be ranked higher than Bama. Bama beating Georgia solidified Texas getting in the CFP. If Bama got in, Texas would need to be in at least 1 seed higher. FSU with Jordan Travis keeps Bama out. Texas still gets in as the 4 seed.

If they didn't rob urban Meyer from a national championship when he coached Utah, he would be the first Mount Rushmore. I think Utah beat Alabama in the bowl game, and he beat Alabama and all the other SEC teams at Florida and when he coached Ohio State against Alabama in the four team playoff. And the 12 oh buckeyes team that couldn't play in a bowl game because of players trading memorabilia for tattoos, which would be comical now would've probably given him five national championships with three teams.
Don't forget the 2015 Ohio St team was denied a chance to repeat because they didn't win their conference. Which is comical when you look at how many times Alabama or Georgia has got in since without winning the SEC.
