I did 36 years in the R.A.N. I can say, categorically, that political correctness is destroying the ADF. When I joined in the early 80,s the RAN had elan, it had camaraderie, it had mateship. Now, its just a kindergarten for adults. Sad, really.

I did 15 years in the RAAF, from 1973 to 1988. I have now worked all my time in the Defence Industry, as a consultant. So have been involved in many defence projects and have seen the erosion. i leave the ADF after 15 years service in 2 days. I left due to incompetent people speaking on the majorities behalf with no left or right, no clear guidance or plan and most shockingly the toxic leadership trait that is going unchecked even if to cause direct harm to somebody. This is peace time Army where most of this started. The Minister said it right alright, the job is extreme violence and let it be so. The wokeness and people that exist in this environment are mostly unsupervised baby's with inferiority complexes, the kind you wouldn't trust with a glass of water yet we're being told (forced) to follow them blindly. They stepped her up 2 x ranks just so they can say look how progressive we are. 4 x people quit based on their decision.

One thing that is always overlooked is that we don't have the manufacturing power to sustain a major military conflict like we did have in the past. We could have the largest military force but without the manufacturing support to back them, then the conflict would be lost as quick as it started. Where are all the foundries, the steel works and other industries needed to sustain the weapons and munitions + all the experience? Gone, because of stupid irresponsible political decisions and treaties since the 1970's.

1. Defence pay is crap. After 16 years, I walked into a NSW Government position $20,000 more working 38 hrs per week (no weekend duties ever). The additional money covered rent, and I didn't need free medical). 2. DFRDB Superannuation is gone 3. DVA won't support you 4. Military assets and equipment is decades old 5. Army Reserves was destroyed in the 90s with Ready Reserves. 6. It is almost impossible to be promoted in Ready Reserves. 7. Navy and Airforce doesn’t have direct entry Reserves. 8. Army Ready Reserves requires weeks/months of block training and workplaces will not allow this much time off. The General Reserves in the 80s and 90s was 2 weeks. 9. After 16 years in Defence Army Reserves and Permanent Navy i was given a TAFE Certificate IV in Leadership. 10. Veterans are forced to initiate 'Ministeral Complaints' to be heard. I spent 5 years in Army Reserves in the 1980s and early 90s and had advanced training in Artillery Signals, OPCP field calling in fire missions, fired the Howitzer Guns, Infantry Training, completed Subject 1 Corporal and advanced medical training in a hospital. In the event of war, i felt well trained. Before we look at conscription we should be boosting Reserves by making it highly available and attractive. Ready Reserves is a complete failure since the 1990s. In the event of war we should have an additional 50,000 Reservists to call on, if required. Field promote a few Permanent Army staff and we could stand up 3 additional Army Divisions in 6-9 months in a serious conflict. Done
OPCP is now ACSO, for Artillery Command Systems Operator. The pay ratio to workload is even worse now compared to when I joined in 2009. Due to the complexity of the new equipment, and extra equipment like Meteorological weather balloon, AFATDS, drivings quals, administration, a tonne of different radio systems and antennas, programming radios for Gun numbers and JFTs even though they are also Specialist combat comms course qualified. And the lack of manpower thus increasing workload to result in ranks having to work 1 or 2 ranks above their own rank without getting paid to work those ranks above. Treatment of soldiers is also similiarly bad reference trash base accommodation (internet is also an issue getting connected), no worklife balance in the barracks life, lack of deployments and dealing with people who hold rank that are A holes.

The start of the downfall of the ADF began when Public Servants started taking jobs away from servicemen/women. Add to that when OH&S took precedence over realistic and hard, difficult training. Throw in weak leadership from pollies and useless Generals, who changed Military language to be non offensive, (e.g. In an Ambush the term 'killing ground' got changed to the 'engagement area', taking away the emphasis on conflict and death so as not to upset sensitive people). All this and more and BAM! .... a declining ADF.

If I had to discharge against my wishes because Kidney stones are "incurable" (defence act 1906) with ongoing risks then why is gender reassignment with its permanent ongoing riance on medications acceptable? Greater medical risk to a soldier if isolated from access to medications in that situation than any risk I would have faced. Gender reasigmement should be a disqualifying condition not actually funded by ADF.

"Chucking money at soldiers" I can confirm this is only the case for specific ECNs. The wider Army does not get retention bonuses etc. There is also no pension anymore. Just a super that you can't access until retirement age and that due to inflation won't be enough to live off in retirement. The actual money where you can live comfortably due to inflation is in contractor and other well paying civilian jobs that give things like overtime.
Specific ECNs and 3 year digs that have little to no real experience. All our experience keeps leaving because they give the retention to the wrong people.
We may not have been fully invaded yet in traditional terms,, but the UN/WEF have most certainly made it clear that they have "Penetrated" our governments. Frankly I'd call a centralised one world government that wants to micro manage our lives and get rid of about 7 billion people on the planet an INVASION!

I’m a dr, 18 yr adf. The gender reassignment and psych support of individuals is true. Policy was rigid that you leave the adf and reapply when you are through your process and mentally sound. That policy was being directly ignored.
My son has been a cadet since he turned 12. He used to want to join. He says the negative image is the highest contributor to school leavers not wanting to join. Most of those kids would rather do a trade and be cashed up and free. Some of his friends are joining, but only to do a trade within the ADF.
Neil James is living in the past, he has no idea or refuses to acknowledge what has happened/is happening is going to the ADF regarding woke policies. I served in the Royal Australian Navy for 23+ years and left in 2004 and some of these were starting to come in then. I have two sons who attempted to join the navy, both passed the psychometric testing indicating they could do almost all jobs in the ADF. The older son was told by the Psychologist that he was dyslexic, he now has his degree in theology and doing his Masters, the younger son attempted three times passed the testing the same indications as mentioned previously but was turned away for various reasons by the Psychologist some of those reasons are; still living at home with parents, not having a drivers licence, not knowing what operations the ADF was involved in and others. He is now a motor mechanic. Personally I am trying to persuade him from joining for the foreseeable future.
And the rest according to survey Only 32% of those aged 18-24 said they would stay and fight and 40% said they would leave the country (28% were unsure), and 35% of those aged 25-34 said that would stay and fight while 38% said they would leave the country (27% were unsure).
We are a totally defenceless country rich in mineral resources just ripe for the picking. It's just a matter of who wants to invade and take our country from us,and when..

I’ve served 22 years in the RAN and just left her too. Political correctness is by far killing the ADF internally. Women and minorities are given preferential treatment in promotion and postings.
12 years and yeah, got too PC to the point females were being promoted because they were female rather than skill and leadership.

Low retention is down to going woke. I served in the navy and left just over 10 years ago because it became single minded on rapidly increasing women percentages at any cost. A lot of the guys i joined with and served with left for the same reason

I did 15 years in the RAAF, from 1973 to 1988. I have now worked all my time in the Defence Industry, as a consultant. So have been involved in many defence projects and have seen the erosion.

The level of fitness has dropped to alarming levels. Females (80% to males 20%) make dangerous mistakes on field with weapon handling & obstacle course failures. Yet they are always 'passed' as competent. Morale is so low, sick leave & resignations went through the roof.
i leave the ADF after 15 years service in 2 days. I left due to incompetent people speaking on the majorities behalf with no left or right, no clear guidance or plan and most shockingly the toxic leadership trait that is going unchecked even if to cause direct harm to somebody. This is peace time Army where most of this started. The Minister said it right alright, the job is extreme violence and let it be so. The wokeness and people that exist in this environment are mostly unsupervised baby's with inferiority complexes, the kind you wouldn't trust with a glass of water yet we're being told (forced) to follow them blindly. Its a fucking joke and I'm glad I've pulled the chute before it became too late.

this bollocks has made its way into ADF cadets, my son recently quit cadets because he was passed over for a promotion, so they could promote a ""they/them" female" . he aced all his tests, she didn't even take them, he has a proven track record of being a strong leader, she has 2 x been reprimanded for unbecoming conduct while on ADF land. One thing that is always overlooked is that we don't have the manufacturing power to sustain a major military conflict like we did have in the past. We could have the largest military force but without the manufacturing support to back them, then the conflict would be lost as quick as it started. Where are all the foundries, the steel works and other industries needed to sustain the weapons and munitions + all the experience? Gone, because of stupid irresponsible political decisions and treaties since the 1970's.

1. Defence pay is crap. After 16 years, I walked into a NSW Government position $20,000 more working 38 hrs per week (no weekend duties ever). The additional money covered rent, and I didn't need free medical).
2. DFRDB Superannuation is gone
3. DVA won't support you
4. Military assets and equipment is decades old
5. Army Reserves was destroyed in the 90s with Ready Reserves.
6. It is almost impossible to be promoted in Ready Reserves.
7. Navy and Airforce doesn’t have direct entry Reserves.
8. Army Ready Reserves requires weeks/months of block training and workplaces will not allow this much time off. The General Reserves in the 80s and 90s was 2 weeks.
9. After 16 years in Defence Army Reserves and Permanent Navy i was given a TAFE Certificate IV in Leadership.
10. Veterans are forced to initiate 'Ministeral Complaints' to be heard.
I spent 5 years in Army Reserves in the 1980s and early 90s and had advanced training in Artillery Signals, OPCP field calling in fire missions, fired the Howitzer Guns, Infantry Training, completed Subject 1 Corporal and advanced medical training in a hospital. In the event of war, i felt well trained. Before we look at conscription we should be boosting Reserves by making it highly available and attractive.
Ready Reserves is a complete failure since the 1990s.
In the event of war we should have an additional 50,000 Reservists to call on, if required. Field promote a few Permanent Army staff and we could stand up 3 additional Army Divisions in 6-9 months in a serious conflict. Done
Don't forget, when you leave the A.D.F. doesn't want to know of any problems and will take YEARS to even consider them.
OPCP is now ACSO, for Artillery Command Systems Operator. The pay ratio to workload is even worse now compared to when I joined in 2009. Due to the complexity of the new equipment, and extra equipment like Meteorological weather balloon, AFATDS, drivings quals, administration, a tonne of different radio systems and antennas, programming radios for Gun numbers and JFTs even though they are also Specialist combat comms course qualified. Treatment of soldiers is also similiarly bad reference trash base accommodation (internet is also an issue getting connected), no worklife balance in the barracks life, lack of deployments and dealing with people who hold rank that are A holes.

The start of the downfall of the ADF began when Public Servants started taking jobs away from servicemen/women. Add to that when OH&S took precedence over realistic and hard, difficult training. Throw in weak leadership from pollies and useless Generals, who changed Military language to be non offensive, (e.g. In an Ambush the term 'killing ground' got changed to the 'engagement area', taking away the emphasis on conflict and death so as not to upset sensitive people). All this and more and BAM! .... a declining ADF.

Greater medical risk to a soldier if isolated from access to medications in that situation than any risk I would have faced.
Gender reasigmement should be a disqualifying condition not actually funded by ADF.

I can confirm this is only the case for specific ECNs. The wider Army does not get retention bonuses etc. There is also no pension anymore. Just a super that you can't access until retirement age and that due to inflation won't be enough to live off in retirement.
The actual money where you can live comfortably due to inflation is in contractor and other well paying civilian jobs that give things like overtime.
Specific ECNs and 3 year digs that have little to no real experience. All our experience keeps leaving because they give the retention to the wrong people.

I’m a dr, 18 yr adf. The gender reassignment and psych support of individuals is true.
Policy was rigid that you leave the adf and reapply when you are through your process and mentally sound. That policy was being directly ignored.
My son has been a cadet since he turned 12. He used to want to join. He says the negative image is the highest contributor to school leavers not wanting to join. Most of those kids would rather do a trade and be cashed up and free. Some of his friends are joining, but only to do a trade within the ADF.
Neil James is living in the past, he has no idea or refuses to acknowledge what has happened/is happening is going to the ADF regarding woke policies. I served in the Royal Australian Navy for 23+ years and left in 2004 and some of these were starting to come in then. I have two sons who attempted to join the navy, both passed the psychometric testing indicating they could do almost all jobs in the ADF. The older son was told by the Psychologist that he was dyslexic, he now has his degree in theology and doing his Masters, the younger son attempted three times passed the testing the same indications as mentioned previously but was turned away for various reasons by the Psychologist some of those reasons are; still living at home with parents, not having a drivers licence, not knowing what operations the ADF was involved in and others. He is now a motor mechanic. Personally I am trying to persuade him from joining for the foreseeable future.
