The EMD SD70 is a series of diesel-electric locomotives produced by the US company Electro-Motive Diesel in response to the GE Dash 9-44CW. Production commenced in late 1992 and since then over 5,700 units have been produced.
The SD70M has a wide nose and a large comfort cab (officially known as the "North American Safety Cab"), allowing crew members to ride more comfortably inside of the locomotive than the older standard cab designs. There are two versions of this cab on SD70Ms: the Phase 1 cab, which was first introduced on the SD60M, and the Phase 2 cab, which is a boxier design similar to the original three-piece windscreen on the SD60M, which is shared with the Phase 2 SD90MAC, SD89MAC, and SD80ACe. The Phase 2 cab has a two-piece windscreen like the Phase 1 windscreen but the design of the nose is more boxy, with a taller square midsection for more headroom.
The SD70M is equipped with D90TR DC traction motors and the 710G3B prime mover. They are capable of generating 109,000 lbf (480 kN) of continuous tractive effort. From mid-2000, the SD70M was produced with SD45-style flared radiators allowing for the larger radiator cores needed for split-cooling. Split-cooling is a feature that separates the coolant circuit for the prime mover and the circuit for the air pumps and turbocharger. There are two versions of this radiator: the older version has two large radiator panels on each side, and the newer version has four square panels on each side. This modification was made in response to the enactment of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Tier 1 environmental regulations. Also the truck was replaced with HTCR-4, instead of HTCR-I on former model.
Production of the SD70M ceased in late 2004 as production of the SD70M-2 model began (the EPA's Tier 2 regulations went into effect on 1 January 2005). 1,609 examples of the SD70M model were produced. Purchasers included CSX, New York, Susquehanna & Western (NYSW; part of EMDX order no. 946531), Norfolk Southern and Southern Pacific (SP; now part of the Union Pacific Railroad), but the vast majority were purchased by Union Pacific.
In 2000, an order of SD70Ms made history when Union Pacific ordered 1000 units of the model (UP 4000 through UP 4999, inclusive, although 4014 was renumbered 4479 to accommodate steam locomotive Big Boy 4014 in 2019). This order was later extended by nearly 500 additional units (UP 3999 and below, UP 5000 and above, except for 3985, which was left vacant for the Union Pacific Challenger 3985).
This locomotive model is also built for export, and is still catalogued by EMD (at 4,300 hp or 3,200 kW). CVG Ferrominera Orinoco has 6 SD70Ms that were built as an add-on order to UPs FIRE cab equipped SD70Ms. Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) in Brazil has ordered 55 of this model for service in Carajas pulling trainloads of iron ore. Since CVRD track is gauged at 1,600 mm (5 ft 3 in), a wider bogie, the HTSC2, was designed for these units by EMD. Wikipedia.

8 wide instead of 6 really makes all the difference in train builds
I know right
It’s true
Yea
Looks clearly like 1435mm train or even 1000mm as I used to build Tatra KT4 like this
Lego should make an 8 wide train as part of its creator expert theme
thx for doing my SD70, hope you liked the build. Greeting from Barduck, designer of this MOC
Thank you so much, your design was great!! Very details. Can’t wait to make another video for this train running on track.
It’s a nice way of how u made 4 wheels look like 6 I love it
23:33 such a cheaty move
Where the cheaty move?
@@Scrapmyboi hidding power Function 4 wheels with this set for 6
Yes the real one using 6 wheel.
This model is actually amazing! I love all the small details put into it and some of the techniques used for certain parts of the roof and sides, although some interior details would be nice as well as a driver minifig would really make this a perfect set.
Thank you 😊 and credit to the designer.
It makes me wish that the colors more were consistent.
Makes you really learn how much Lego is a premium toy.
Excluding the multiple times they also struggle to keep consistent colors
I built my first train MOC recently. It's not a specific model, but it's based on trains from the early cold war, with orange and black details
Finally a EMD brick locomotive a SD70M locomotive
Man, 9 y/o me would’ve loved the heck outta this 👍
That is some impressive SNOT finagling.
Yeah, the designer did it great job.
Ah yes *SNOT*
it's not a LEGO
@@AnryBarbys it also cost 1/3 of what you'd pay if you'd build it in Lego
@@AnryBarbys no is not
Shout out to who ever made this set it’s amazing
Looks really impressive. I personally recently ordered the Union Pacific GTEL from Letbricks using one of your discount codes. Should be here soon, cannot wait!!
Thank you so much, hope you will get the package soon and enjoy building. 😁

As a railroader & modeler i am 100% amazed & impressed with this awesome assembly of this diesel. Would like to to see it run this was worth watching. 👋👋👋👋👋👋👍✅⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hello, I'm Tina, the administrator of Letbricks. May I know you? It's a pleasure to talk to you more about trains.
@@Tinaviya Hi Tina. I look forward to so many scale model projects i have been a railroader since i was a little boy. Most trains are dear to my heart in my years of photography, many train, various collections layouts excursion trains & various train shows & Museums i have visited. In those many visits i have seen Lego built layouts equivalent of O Scale. Its always my joy to watch these amazing educational fun videos of these model construction projects i pleasantly view.
My regards
Harold( CN/ BC RAIL ) Alexis
@@haroldalexis4200 Thanks for your sharing, we will launch more trains, you can always follow moc your bricks channel, you will like these trains even more. If you have any ideas, I'd be happy to share with you.
They really make amazing pieces like it’s so detailed I can’t just love it❤️
Letbricks actually doesn't make them. They reach out to Lego MOC creators and licence the designs
You building a diesel helper to help out your big boy😂
Simplesmente incrível, um dia realizo meu sonho e compro ela.
Holy sheez a Union Pacific-operated EMD SD70ACE in Lego.
This soundtrack is driving me insane
You inspire me!👍👍😁😁
I didn't get a USB key when I got mine in May, and I am still waiting for my Union PAcific Bi Boy order to come through. So this video is what I needed to get mine built.
I WANNA BUY THAT!! Its unfortunate that the bricks there are fake lego (because Lego usually has the "Lego" Stamped on the studs, but I'd still buy that)
Yea & u can see where they poured in the plastic into the mold
SD70M should be big boy's pusher but i think there might be lego sd70ace to be big boy's pusher
Did anybody come here to see the tutorial and hear the bricks sounds? Also Nice train!
Please make freight cars please
He’s training to become as fast as the Lego builders in the ads
I just realized it’s not lego
Wow Beautiful, very nice video. The Thumb is up
Are we gonna talk about how his thumb is bending like that???
Would love to see UP 4141 in Lego form.
Are you going to do a speed build on the let brick big boy 4014 2.0
T Challa: WAKANDA FOREVER
Me as a railfan: BIG BOY FOREVER
I just don't like that these sets use the cheapest possible off brand lego bricks imaginable. I mean just listen to them being placed. Brand new bricks shouldn't be creaking and stressing while putting them together like that. I get that its cheaper, but still, for a $200 set, one would hope that higher quality materials were used.
Interesting observation.
Actually they are sopposed to do that and I have over 5 years in Lego experience and also it’s sped up and he probably has a microphone and that was why it’s so loud
Well, excuse the fuck out of them, expectations.
Train
@@72ARHif your bricks are crackling when being put together, then you got some horrible quality bricks my man.
Big Boy my Favorite Engine
Fun fact about me:I like the Union Pacific 4014 big boy
good video it seems more sd70ase to me
The slanted windshield is the key feature about the SD70M 🥲
I think it’s a sd70m-2
@@Quasar4449 it’s not. Look at the radiator section, MACs have the radiator all the way to the rear
@@Quasar4449 SD70M-2s have a SD70ACe body, just DC traction motors
Wow thats cool!
Thank you 😊
Lego one piece thousand sunny ship moc next please I’ve been searching everywhere
Shame it's not real lego though really considering getting one as the bild looks good shame about the bogie limitations would have been nice to have all 6 wheels but that is the cormpamize for what it is looks amazing all the same so may get one
when I first designed this she had 6 wheels (rotation point in the trucks) but it made the trucks much to bulky and big. Plus the truck tended to jump on switches. Doing it this way it's much sleeker and nobody will notice it anyway because of the sidings that fake 6 wheel trucks. I've first implemented this on my ES44AC's in the designing phase and retrofitted it to both my SD60 and SD70's as the look it gives is just stunning while not compromising on either power or combability (if you work with technic motors powering the train trucks then it's close to impossible to have them run at at the same speed as the PF train motors which one could use to provide extra power for extra long consists)
@@hansthienpont5328 can this run on standard lego r40 curves?
Cool please understand I was not meaning to be atcking in my statement
But I do see where u are coming from and like I sed before it dose still look the part and is amazing all the same
Very nice 👍🚂🚂
Thank you 😊
The one stud offset of the ribs on the side pains me far more than it should
you mean half plate offset ;-)
@@hansthienpont5328 no I mean how the left side is a stud behind the right side
This looks like an SD70ACe, but still cool!
Thank you 😊
9:53-9:54 THATS ILLEGAL
Those trucks, Oh boy...
It's kinda cursed seeing It having just a 4-4 arraignment tho the frames show a 3-3 wheel arraignment
Check out how I did 3-3 wheels.

It is super super super great train.I like it😀
Satisfying
it is so detailed, I like it. good video!
Awesome on camera build technique. O idea how long it must take to decide how to pull this all together. Great details. Thanks
UP SD40N
Quattro es pequito , ocho es GRANDE
Your thumb bends back so much it looks like it's gonna snap
🤣🤣🤣
@@MOCYOURBRICKs no seriously it hurts my hands just to watch
Good model, but it looks more like an SD70ACE
i want one of these, but with a Chicago Metra livery lol
Haha you can make a custom sticker for it.
Can you make a csx ac4400cw in the yn2 sceam?
Nice I m build on leg
Thank you 😊
think you can make the ruddy rose? its the ship that got chased into the devils triangle in potc 5
The big ship in very first of the movie?
Could this be used with Lego power functions for a Lego train layout?
It would be too huge for the curves
Wow
When will you post an update for the Bluecoat Flagship you were going to make?
That ship project was completely redesigned so the final ship will be look different.
Like moc trainz
It's more likely an SD70ACe made of legos
The radiator is different 🤔
Off brand legos my friend
This would be a great video IF ONLY IT HAD DIFFERENT GODAMN SONGS
How long did this whole train take you?
Neat
Thank you 😊
Am I the only one who noticed that his thumb was bending a full 90 degrees backwards?
The things on top off the locomotive look like car rims
The model looks great! Can I get a link to there store?

Are these Lego bricks or custom-made bricks?
Its compatible bricks.
I am wondering, are those oem lego bricks or replica's?
Reps
That's not LEGO, right?
lol the same color having super noticeable variation and the pieces flexing is not a good sign
It seems you forgot your watch. ;-)
Haha I may stay outdoor for long.
Hmmm would be much satisfying if it wasn’t a knock of brand
😅😅
Don't know if you will read this, but I have been using this video to build mine as my Package didn't contain the USB with the PDF. At 11:52, are the 3 8x1x1's added to the build. Are they coming from the bag, or are they coming from a previous part of the build, because I may be missing them?
Oh you can contact Letbricks to get the USB. For 1x8 yellow plate, Please remove 5 of them at the bottom at 1:30 of the video, I temporarily used it to support the structure for shooting the video.
Looks like an SD70ACe. Lol.
Where can we buy this locomotive ?

Why aren't you using real lego
😅sorry
Are you from thailand?
Yes 😁
did you can please make your Speed build with out lego sounds
It is better with sounds in my opinion,it is like asmr with lego
If you don't like the Lego sounds, watch this video on mute while listening to the music of your choice. It's a more pleasant experience.
The sounds are cool though
Thank you mate.
Damn this broks fits so poorly😬
