Wow... I have been quilting for 24 years...never thought about this whole color theory area, of quilting! ... maybe I do some of this intuitively, but not with all this thinking behind it of why!!! This is jam packed full of information... would need to watch it multiple times for it to all sink in!
Terrific colour theory... with practical application
Wow. Now here is a tutorial full of info. I was on my toes the whole time. I love that Judy talks to us, like adults, not a kindergarten class!!!
you all probably dont care at all but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I was dumb lost my password. I love any assistance you can give me!

Thank you so much, you really help me out!
@Abram Alvaro no problem xD
I’m 69 and just started quilting. Loved your video and it’s helping me learned more about colors.
This has been the best tutorial on color theory! Thank you!!!! Will be getting your books!
Fabulous video, funny, practical, informative, creative, fun and so useful for many reasons...Thank you. We sure do need more of this type of video and more Judys in the quilting world.
AWESOME !!
Best tutorial I've seen in a long time. Very clear, great instructions. Your color theory explanation was great. I think I may finally get it. And I look forward to trying the scrap organizing tips.
Thank you for this video! I ONLY sew scrap quilts. I collect sheets and retired clothing. I sometimes go to thrift stores or bargain stores and buy heavily-reduced curtains, pillowcases, table cloths, table runners, even shower curtains and I remake them into all kinds of scrappy things including skirts and aprons. I love to scrap because it is thrifty and makes me feel connected to the early Americans who did such beautiful quilts with what they had. I use my smaller scraps for English paper piecing (love it) to make quilts and quilted placemats, table runners, pillow covers, and a host of other items. Very little goes in the trash. I even repurpose the elastic in the sheets and I use the casing for the elastic to tie up my plants in the garden. I can purchase a new sheet at a bargain store for as little as $1.00 and because friends know that I do this, they often give me their leftovers and so I get some really nice sheets and old clothes and bits of other things to make scraps. Your video is very helpful in how to think about organizing pieces because I often get thrown by some of the things you were talking about in this video. I do have a color wheel from college and I never really thought of using it for quilting but I certainly will from now on. Thank you again!
Bayou, love your suggestions, all my grandmas quilts were made with old clothes, I cherish them! Buying new fabric can become very expensive!
I'm so glad you commented here. I've been collecting sheets, draperies, old cotton clothing, etc. for quilts. I wish there were more videos for people who reuse things like that. I'm sure with the wider fabric (king-sized sheet for example) There are probably other things we could do besides use them as backing or cut up for square. Keep the green movement going BAYOU TOWN Productions!
Judy, wonderful tutorial!! Love your books.
Thank you so much Judy, for the best information on the internet for a beginner quilter.
This video is excellent! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! The color wheel you use is the best one I have ever seen. I love the amount of color that is shown by the outward solid circles. It makes it very easy to hold up to my fabric to determine it's value. I am so glad that someone else who enjoyed this video as I did mentioned that C & T Publishing is the maker of this wheel. It was very easy to locate on Amazon. Again, thank you so much for sharing your talents.
Great video. Such helpful information.
Your explanation and patience to me is beyond words. Thank You and I am a first time QUILTER so much to learn and a very good instructional video for refernce. THANK YOU , THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
Best video on color theory I have seen. Your presentation was clear and concise . Thank you.
This is the very best quilting video ever! The colour theory and sorting tips invaluable! I'm off to the nearest fabric shop with renewed confidence.
This was a great video!! Your pace is great and succinct way of speaking is great - I struggle with my scraps - it’s my MN winter project! Thank you for doing this!!! The husband box - yep asked my hubby for his first thought - and I thought I was so clever thinking of that idea!!!
I love it when she says that if you're not sure what color a scrap is - ask a man - that is so true. Men will not hesitate and give you an answer :))
Another Malka fan!
Great video. Thank you. :)
OUTSTANDING VIDEO!
SO MUCH PERTINENT INFORMATION. LEARNED SO, SO MUCH. AND ANSWERED QUESTIONS I HAVE HAD FOR MANY YEARS. THANK YOU!
Wonderful Tutorial. Learned so much for color placement. I'll look for your books and also be watching for more of your videos. Thank you.

The best tutorial I have watched in a long!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Wow!! Thank you! I have my scraps separated by color but didn’t know about the internal color sorting technique. Now I can use my scraps! Thank you again.
Love this tutorial is SO GOOD!! Love the color wheel. I think I have at least one of your books, but I am about to go check my library.
My hubby is colorblind 😉
Learned so much about colours! Thank you!
Best explanation of color. The fabric color sorting is extremely helpful.
Thank you for your presentation on utilizing more scraps with the color wheel in mind. Love how your colors and designs pop even when using what could be considered an ugly print,
Thank you so much! Enjoyed!
❤❤❤these, learning SO MUCH,THANK YOU❤
Great video full of valuable information and tips regarding colours and fabric and how to combine them for the best results. Loads of creative ideas for our next quilt.

Excellent talk. Tyfs!
Thank you so much! This was so helpful to me as I struggle with color. I’m excited to try to make a scrap quilt!
Where can i purchase the color wheel used in the video?
Wow super way to use scraps....really enjoyed this presentation...
Very informative video. Thank you so much for this informative video. I can’t wait to use the fabric tree for sorting my stash of scraps.😘
Very educational, thank you!
Fantastic tutorial, thank you! Will look out for your books.
This was very informative and inspiring thanks so much. I learned sooo much!
Thank you very much, this was really helpful to me even as a somewhat experienced quilter.
Thank you so much for this video! I have plenty of scraps and I hate scrappy quilts, they look too jumbled to me, but these quilts are not scrappy, they have a pattern! hooray! I can use my scraps!
Amazingly educational. I learnt so much. Thank you. Also, I'd like to say that you made it very easy to understand as well.
Thank you. Very well explained and helpful
THANK YOU!!!
Very inspiring!
Wonderful lecture and great Q&A! 🤩
Love this! Watching from Miami
Very informative. Thank you.
That was wonderful!
So funny. When I'm not sure I do ask my husband to look at it and you're right he makes a determination rather quickly. LOL LOL LOL. Like I'm sitting here laughing because I can't even believe you said that. Omg! The husband bin. I'm going to have to relabel mine. I use clear plastic shoe box size for all my scraps. I also use them for all my other Fabrics that are eventually going to be used together. Several yards folded into these little boxes and I have hundreds of them LOL. Sometimes I like to be able to mix things up a bit for a scrappier look so it works great. I don't even bother working with different sizes though. If it's a scrap. I decide what I want to do when I open the box. Crumb pieces are a whole other story. Those tiny pieces just get mixed together and it doesn't matter what color they are. I can't believe how organized those shoe boxes have gotten me. I got very sick for the last couple of years so it was wonderful having them in those boxes and not all my fabric on shelves. Kept the dust off and I'm so happy to be sewing again.
Nice tutorial I learned a lot.
Great class on colour very informational thank you
.
Terrific video!
Siperb instruction thank you
Vraiment intéressant et très instructif merci beaucoup
I want that color wheel!
Thank you
2 see value try using your phone on back and white take a picture to see the value easy 😊😊
Awesome
Great information!! Does the color wheel you use have a specific name? Where can I buy it? You did a great job explaining how to use prints in scrappy quilts using this color wheel! Great job! Thank you!!
This is very helpful
Im new to quilting. Wow so loved the information thanks for sharing. Where to start?🤔
Great ideas! Please close your cutter before you set it down.
Brilliant video, many thanks. A question I must ask is...On the treasure box block, is there a partial seam? I can't figure it out lol.. anyone know out there??
I learned so much from this video. Your quilts are fabulously alive with color! Thank you for teaching your techniques. What is the name of the cutting mat you are using?
I like your phrase "fabulously alive with color". Was fun to see how some quilts we saw the color first and some the pattern.
So, you don't limit where you poke under the fabric to just the seams. You can poke through at any place, right?
Really great video on color. What happens when you have smaller size scraps? I have some 1 in or 1 1/2 in wide and 8 in or less. Do I just make string quilts and use the same method with color?
I have 1x9 strips I cut to make rag wreaths, and wish I hadn't. I would like to know the same thing!
I LOVE the electronics motifs on the light colored fabric. Where on earth did you find it? Do you have the name of it and who made it?? I have many ham friends, most of whom are men. They could appreciate a gift using such a fabric .
I would call the black pok a dot with the bright hearts....multicolored....that is what my online eyeglass store calls most of my favorite glasses.
I guess what you call adjacent colors is what I call tone one tone or tonal.
Your orange/brown top I would simply call FALL.
WOW. I know my monitor is not the greatest, but the majority of the colors that you said were in the green/blue family did in no way look like either color.
I love the treasure box(?). The bright yellow with red dots and yellow with red stars grabbed my eyes immediately and I was able to follow what you had on the top better.
Where do you purchase your color guide I've never seen one like that
Excellent lecture! Would love to know where you got that fantastic color wheel!
Yes! The color wheel was what got my attention to watch the video.
I just found it at Missouri Star Quilt Co. but it's out of stock until mid October.
I received the color wheel today. Very nice.
She tells at 37:20
Where can I order these books and color wheel?
Dont get from Annie's!! Ive waited for several weeks and have not heard back...messages asking about it.. Be careful!
Where can I get that color wheel???
At 37:20 she said it is made by C & T Publishing and you can go to their site online or maybe Amazon.
@@carolg.6838 Thank you!!!
I tried to find your color wheel online…
☕️🌍🇦🇺😷👍
Hi,
Quilts are great but such a mistake leaving that blade open !
And you have to keep a man for that purpose? Wouldn't that be expensive?😂😂😂
Close your rotary cutter......bad teaching example.
OMG! I could not continue watching with that blade flying around! Good Lord, not a very good teacher regarding rotary cutter!
Too bad. You missed a very informative video. I noted that she had all ten fingers at the conclusion.
Are we third-graders with pointed scissors or adults I can take care of ourselves. I’ve been doing this 25 years and always leave my blade open. Somehow I’m still alive. Great video
Joanna Fritz I agree. She was a nurse. They work with sharp objects.
Wasnt this an excellent video? There is always a risk with something razor sharp. I would use my small spinning mat to turn. I see many videos where women cut around a block without moving it. I am sure that is not for me. An experienced quilter friend required immediate hand surgery from rotary cutting fabric quickly on the way to a quilt guild meeting. I slightly cut the part of my hand between thumb and forefinger with scissors as I was holding what I was cutting. So some of us that are less focused daydreamers have increased risk and know we can't do that. I wouldn't put it past me to drop an open blade on my foot or something.
Llllll
Hilarious that she made those generalizations about men. There is no difference between how men and women see color.
I believe she was referring to the tendency of making a quick decision about which color it is.
Oh yes there is.
No but there might be a "guy" around more if you live with one.
i was shocked at your incredibly sexist "ask a man" and "husband bin" comments. Most sewing lecturers seem ignorant to the fact that there are men who sew and that there may be men in the audience (or they just don't care)
Hahaha
Get a life. She's over 60. It's just her generation.
Victoria Hinton So if a 60 year old man said something sexist to you would that be ok because “it’s just his generation”?
I would just consider the source.
@@ToriLynnH The source in this case is a professional who is giving a public presentation but doesn't respect the diversity of her audience. It's not like my crazy aunt that doesn't have a filter.
Well
I wouldn't worry about it.
