They went through tons of that foam. I used it for a few DIY speaker builds and it really is fantastic stuff. Also, I love the work GR Research is doing and you can tell they really do care about the quality of what they offer.
Just ordered an X LS Encore flat pack from Peter, and not only did he make the whole process extremely easy.... he was a pleasure to deal with. I also ordered the matched center channel that Danny offers for these speakers (X CS Encore/not on website) as this will be the foundation for my wife approved home theater system.
Dude! The X-Static kit is $400 and has 4 of the woofers with the tweeter and a 3 way crossover. I can also get a servo sub and still have $800 left in my pocket. I've built high end custom kitchen cabinets from raw lumber so boxes are child's play. I'm also an electrician and plumber so soldering is a cake walk. Everyone in the USA has someone near that can build a box for $100.
I bought 2 sets of completed speakers direct from GR Research. First I got the Carnegie Acoustics Davanti bookshelf speakers. Designed by Danny for some guy with marketing plans, he built them in China and the market changed. Danny helped him liquidate the Davanti speakers for $300 or $400. Happy with these I bought the completed L-XS Encore with all the upgrades. With supply chain issues it took 3 months. I moved the Davanti to the NAD M10 with a HSU subwoofer to my TV. And put the XLS to my Parasound P23 and preamp Bluesound Nodes. After a few days the XLS changed and now have more base than the Davanti with Subwoofer. But also more clarity and transparency. Maybe the amps? Both rooms are side by side and 12x24 feet. I can put them in the same BlueOS group and A B test them most everyday. I have a 3rd BlueOS zone in my home office.
About time you got into the DIY reviews. Being a lifelong DIYer myself, I am in the process of building a pair of X-MTM speakers that Danny has but isn't on the website currently that go down to 40Hz at -3dB so that I don't need to use a subwoofer, since I plan to use them just for music playback and the low E string of the 4 string bass guitar is at 41.2Hz. Since some music may use a 5 or more string bass with a low B string frequency of 30.9Hz , I plan to eventually design and build a open baffle sub. One great thing about DIY is that you can do whatever finish you like to the cabinets, myself I will paint the cabinets a gold metallic color with several layers of clearcoat for a finish just like I on some sports cars that I can't afford, but at least I can afford high end sound for about $500 the pair and stare at the beauty of those speakers.

These speakers could be the greatesst sounding speakers on earth, the problem is no one I know will buy speakers they can't demo. I appreciate your efforts, but there is no data here just opinion. No measurements, no sound clips. How do we as consumers make an informed and experiential decision about GR research speakers? I'm very interested in them, but cannot hear them.
One needs to consider resale value too. Unfortunately, these puppies will be worthless in 15 years, differently than the big dogs. Honestly $1750 is very steep for this single reason. Big part of the hobby is to try something different, and most people will want to sell them eventually.
Then build them from a kit. And if you are worried about resale value then keep in mind that most of our customers sell their kits (as finished speakers) primarily to order the next model up in the line, and they sell their kits for more than they paid for them most of the time.
Danny Richie I totally agree when buying directly from you. I’m eyeing myself a x-static kit. And the matching center speaker. My comment was related to the assembled speaker. Although I totally see the value of the craftsmanship, no doubt about that!
I'm willing to believe GR speakers are as good as Danny claims they are, but like anything else, where is the proof? I'd like to see 4-5 disinterested reviewers talk about his speakers. My Google searches for reviews arent pulling up much.
That Peter guy is kinda whacked, huh? Plans for my UA-cam channel? We don't need no stinkin' plans, I'm freestyle now! It's sort of an odd tour around my mind. There's something not right about the fidget spinner, it shouldn't wobble like that. Maybe needs some coaxing from its creator...
Peter I’ve watched your build videos of these twice over. Thanks for all you do! I had originally planned on painting my next pair but your videos may have talked me back into veneering them.
That is one of the cheapest Chinese woofers I’ve ever seen. Are they even made of iron? Close the doors, or else the woofer will blow out of your hands. It may sound ok, but I would take a nice Seas, Vifa or Scan Speak driver.
Dude… chill out. Have a drink. You take yourself way too seriously. You appear to be addicted to the “perfect sound”….. one can enjoy music without spending $5-$20K … $2,500 gets you plenty, assuming you know where to place your speakers and how to treat your room. You did a good job on those subjects.
Indian manufacture and massive mark ups as soon as Danny/New Record Day types get hold of them and start hyping them... With a view to their nxt years Humvee type purchase
lol those tweeters have so much distortion and the woofers are pretending to have phase plugs. the tweeters are hot trash, which is ironic because Peerless also makes some really good CHEAP tweeters too. i love your content but Danny's opinion ignores measurements (even though he measures the crap out of price point competition) and product referencing of newer designs because he can't get past nostalgia and snake oil and adventure into something outside of his personal opinion. Sure old designs are fine, but at cost there is MUCH MUCH MUCH better sounding parts out there.

Go to their website for all the data. They're pretty popular and established
@@TheEchelon He means REAL measurements like on ASR, something neutral, not from the guy selling them or a guy doing a "review" for him...
Actually we've sold about 2,000 pairs of them. Measurements are there on our site and have been confirmed many times.
@@dannyrichie9743 Every seller claims that their product is the best... I don't rember u ever engaging in any self criticism
Mike's work is really good. It's a good option for some.
I bet so! Don’t take me wrong. My comment was solely based on the “economics”. I’m in no way saying it is not worth it to everybody.
I’m with you on this. This is a DIY kit that’s pretty steep. I’ve seen better examples for less on Part-Express. As for looks - Fugly.
I'm willing to believe GR speakers are as good as Danny claims they are, but like anything else, where is the proof? I'd like to see 4-5 disinterested reviewers talk about his speakers. My Google searches for reviews arent pulling up much.
It seems to mainly be "people heard it" or "it just is" (better). I guess that's how a lot of extra bits of HiFi get sold.
The proof? Danny posts all tangible data... The FR, spectral decay, etc, of the actual speaker. How many other manufacturers do that?
@@cup_and_cone his speaker waterfall decays r highly selective... Remember Danny has to pay for nxt years Humvee etc somehow
Ahh stop all the glowing reviews of these! You're going to drive up the prices of these underground DIY kings!
Hahahaha
That Peter guy is kinda whacked, huh?
Plans for my UA-cam channel? We don't need no stinkin' plans, I'm freestyle now! It's sort of an odd tour around my mind.
There's something not right about the fidget spinner, it shouldn't wobble like that. Maybe needs some coaxing from its creator...
Probably operator error! Or I need to upgrade it’s power cord?
It probably needs a mag-lev platter
Peter I’ve watched your build videos of these twice over. Thanks for all you do! I had originally planned on painting my next pair but your videos may have talked me back into veneering them.
I have your flat pack sitting on my workbench. I'm still refining my baby like noob assembly skills on some cheaper part-express kits.
Miss you on the HiFi poadcast
Much love to that crew.
My 8 inch carbon fiber woofers with a paper midrange sound is so yummy. ♤☆(my 2.1beedroom system)
"You better Believe it" I want swirl Ice Cream 17:32
That is one of the cheapest Chinese woofers I’ve ever seen. Are they even made of iron? Close the doors, or else the woofer will blow out of your hands. It may sound ok, but I would take a nice Seas, Vifa or Scan Speak driver.
only $1700 us , what a screamer of a deal! ill take 2

Nice!!
Sounds like a commercial.
Indian manufacture and massive mark ups as soon as Danny/New Record Day types get hold of them and start hyping them... With a view to their nxt years Humvee type purchase
You need to be alittle more transparent with your association with CSS
You need to be a little more attentive of the video you just watched.
The CSS website is covered in photos of your studio, maybe an explanation might be in order?
Is that so? CSS? Creative Sound Solutions website is covered with my photos? You might want to take a second look.
@@Newrecordday2013 apologies, wrong channel
Clearly the guy is a carpenter and not a skilled electrical tech. That mad my body so uncomfortable when I saw that board!
I am not a fan of rectangular cabinets, MDF, HDF ...etc
you should of went with css
Why is that?
@@Newrecordday2013 they sound great and look better at least the woofer does
Ok, your response is what I expected. Thanks for the comment.
1750+shipping, tax
Those point to point crossovers were pathetic.
lol those tweeters have so much distortion and the woofers are pretending to have phase plugs. the tweeters are hot trash, which is ironic because Peerless also makes some really good CHEAP tweeters too. i love your content but Danny's opinion ignores measurements (even though he measures the crap out of price point competition) and product referencing of newer designs because he can't get past nostalgia and snake oil and adventure into something outside of his personal opinion. Sure old designs are fine, but at cost there is MUCH MUCH MUCH better sounding parts out there.
Every bit of that is so wrong that I don't even know where to start.
@@dannyrichie9743 it absolutely is not wrong. for you to not know that shows you have not had hands on experience. just because you think it's good does not mean it is ousted by many other products. it's absolute crap
@@djfirestormx No hands on experience? I have been doing this since 1995. Companies bring me or send me their products for testing all the time. My products have been in every magazine online and in print and won all of their highest awards. I have exhibited at all of the shows and won the highest show awards as well. I've also designed every type of speaker there is. Few people in the industry have the experience that I have. You better go do your homework.
@@dannyrichie9743 I have literally seen you post measurements to trash rival brands and those measurements are your room acoustic flaws. Every single speaker you measure has dips and peaks in the same places. And then you go to correct them because the original designer quote didn't take the time. I understand you want to defend your product but don't continuously crap on other people's designs. The fact that you have to put down the competition to make yours better shows what kind of business man you are
@@djfirestormx That is incorrect. I have never posted a room response or any measurement that contains room reflections. We use a gated time window that allows us to get the same frequency response that we would also get when we measured that same speaker in our anechoic chamber. Yes we had an anechoic chamber at our last location. What you see in the measurements are exactly how the speaker measures (no room reflections), and my measurements are and have been confirmed by others including JA at Stereophile.
And the kind of business man I am is the kind that tells the truth. What I show regarding any speaker is exactly how it is.
