- Anti-war protests on college campuses across the country continue to grow, and as a result, pro-Israel politicians and pundits are getting increasingly angry and desperate. Pundits have doubled down on their effort to smear the college protesters while Democratic politicians are teaming up with Republicans to cook up new legislative ways to shut down the protests. We’ll break down the details in this lengthy update video about the unhinged response to college protesters.

Criticizing the Israeli government is *not* antisemitism.
Most people know that. However, those with vested interest in the war machine need to obfuscate everything to get what they want.
I literally was in a conversation where I condemned Hamas 3 times but because I still tried to criticize Israel I was labeled an antisemitic Hamas supporter. It's white and black for them. You either support Israel or Hamas, their is no other option.
Oh! its definitely "white" for them , 99.9 percent of Israelis groupies are just white reactionaries who love racism and colonialism . And as a native American I'm not playing by their rules and will no more condemn Hamas than I would the ANC or Sitting Bull , People have the right to protect themselves from racist fascist colonial violence PERIOD and I couldn't care less who's feelings it hurts .

The Morning Joes of the world fail to mention that these students have a very specific demand: that their university's endowment funds di vest from companies that do business in and/or profit from ill egal Iz ræli settle ments.
Just taking the example of Columbia University, over the years their students have /successfully/ pro tested to demand endowment di vestments from: S. African apart heid, fossil fuels, private pri sons, and big tobacco, to name just a handful.
I'll be 50 years old in a couple of weeks. I don't remember corporate newsmodels EVER making such a pearl-clutching fuss about any of these other di vestment demands. Not at this fever pitch level.
I'm immensely proud of these students; their generation suffers zero fools. I can't wait until they're in charge.

I work with extremely wealthy people and also impoverished people.
The rich people I work with spend their time at the spa, complaining about taxes, complaining about how much their new luxury cars cost, and how shitty the country is.
The poor workers spend their time working, volunteering, spending time with their kids, going to school, and trying to improve their lives.
There are people with addictions issues, mental health issues, and jerks on both sides about equally.
The difference to me is that the rich people spend their free time being entitled assholes, while the poor people usually try to help others or being generally pleasant and positive.

I’m in my 60s, my older kids are in their 40s. We were commiserating about the treatment of the campus protesters recently and I talked about how much it reminded me of the campus protests and occupations against the South African apartheid government back in the 70s and 80s. Same invective hurled at students demanding that the school they pay for divest from a deadly, racist, colonial government. Same claims of “commie’ influence. Same use of police violence to stomp them into submission (or try anyway!). The people in power, the structures of power, don’t tolerate it, and they’ll keep standing on our throats until they no longer exist. I was there for some of the past actions. I’m too physically frail to be at the current ones, but damn those kids make me proud (including my grandson!). I’m broken that the need for this fight exists at all, but proud that so many are willing to stand up despite the risk.

Ilhan Omar said that support for genocide is not a reason for anyone to be the target of antisemitism. She is correct-condemnation of a genocidal political project is worthy of criticism and it can and should be criticized without resorting to bigoted attacks against the identity of the person holding that political position. To say what Ilhan Omar said is antisemitic is to necessarily say that genocide is a core and inextricable tenet of Judaism, and therefore to criticize genocide is to inherently criticize Judaism. That’s not only flatly untrue but is itself deeply antisemitic.

Solidarity with all the students protesting! I'm in awe of their determination despite many of them being threatened with expulsion or having already been expelled. Choosing humanity when faced with threats like this shouldn't be hard but it often is. Makes me so hopeful for our future generations!

You should seek a slightly more balanced report than this one -there are multiple documented cases of verbal attacks and threats made against Jewish students on campus and people literally shouting slogans about killing Jews onsite (at least at Columbia). Nobody is after them for supporting Palesinians or a two state solution, or getting rid of Netanyhu, or anything at all like that. In Columbia some have broken into and occupied buildings forcing the closure of campus. All schools have codes of campus conduct. In that code most ban hate speech based on race, creed, gender, sexuality, or religion. This is not new. There is a distinction between peaceful protest and unlawful occupation. Also a distinction between schools enforcing student agreed upon codes of conducts on campus and the government repressing free speech. I'm not saying all of these things haven't happened at some point--just that it is a complex situation. (PS: I agree, Netanyahu sould be in prison).

Most of these pundits would say that Suffragettes, Civil Rights activists, and Vietnam protesters were all on the right side of history. But _these_ protests are _different._ In 20-30 years these protests will be remembered as youth standing up for people experiencing genocide. I looked at the CNN live feed this morning and it looked like the cops were out in full force collecting forensic evidence. I'm sure consider the use of fireworks as a very serious threat, like a bombing. A young Jewish man who was there was interviewed on FOX. He said they were Jews, not students, who came out to clear the camp. He said he didn't know them, but they all knew him because he'd been on a video.
