THROWBACK THURSDAY 1: TERRIBLE Modern Roper Washer

At the same house that has those Hunter fans ( • Installing Hunter Ceil... ). When you can't even WASH A SINGLE LOAD without something going wrong, you're f*cked.
When these fail (only a matter of time), I will recommend them a set of Speed Queens.
Not mentioned in the video, but I believe the dryer is gas.

You totally abused the machine and the agitator is working the way it supposed to be working! You can’t compare a dual action agitator on a direct drive and on this unit, they’re two different systems so although it’s the same agitator they operate differently, different strokes. The direct drive uses fast strokes this does not. Great way to kill the dryer, do you really know what you’re doing? DON’T THINK SO!
Then if you know so much, tell me what the 2 most common things to break on a direct-drive are.
The Elevator World usually it’s the agitator dogs or the part I forgot the name of it with three plastic prongs coming out of the motor into the transmission and I can’t think of the name right now. I know when that part fails it will not go into spin. I can’t believe I’m even answering you. Lol.

@@jeromedavis8575 Thank you it came to me after I finished writing it and I didn’t feel like correcting it it wasn’t worth it
😂 u saved me from a headache I was about 2 buy a used roper machine & I'm so glad I seen your vid & some of the comments 😊 thanks
Haha yep, these are trash, glad you didn't get one, especially used!
That’s why speed queen the best
Yep
You would have done them a favor if you loaded it on to a dolly and rolled it out the back door for trash pickup. 🤣
LOL
Why is the lid switch not attached
So I could record it. The lid is locked down if it's attached.
I thought this was a joke but no you actually seem angry. Why are you so angry at a washing machine?. It’s just a washer?. Also changing the cycle over and over again doesn’t do anything.
Because this is the trash that the government is forcing us to use.
Better than Samsung in my opinion.
I think this may actually be worse. At least my mom’s Samsung uses water and has a load size option. My dad’s machine is a VMW tho. It is worse than Samsung. It’s an early model so it uses very little water. It’s almost always on the normal cycle with medium soil. That pretty much never gets changed. To top it off, it also has bad bearings.
@@coolrobuxgaming turnover is better with this
I'd rather have a Samsung. They don't glitch out every time you make a selection.
She is very entertaining..
I didn't know I was transgender!
@@isaac24 The voice sounds feminine to me
I don’t know about that…
@@isaac24 Sorry wasn't trying to be mean, that's the way it sounds
It filled a little because it sensed nothing when you turned it on and then you started to add cloths
Yes that's her problem. The machine weighs the clothes. She started it with nothing in it. She doesn't know what she's doing.
She had it set on deep water wash.
@@pretendfriend1417he
It's the stupidest system ever.
If you added the clothes later it would have added more water because it sensed no clothes but it still did deep water for no clothes
Omg I can’t stop laughing 😂 that machine sure makes you mad 😡
Surprisingly, it's still running to this day.
@@isaac24 OK WHATTT????
@@isaac24 That what they do don't be pissed at the washer machine
Actually this washer is junk
Ya
Omg you’re so funny,, I’m cracking up!!! Lol you’re struggling lol
Haha yep, thanks!
I’ve never seen washer abuse until today 😭😭😭😭. You have me feeling more sorry for the washer than I’m feeling sorry for you.
I don't feel sorry for you either so we're all good 😀
@@isaac24 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Yes we are. Hope you get one that works for you. My old whirlpool went bad and I ended up with one similar to this , took awhile to get accustomed to be honest. I work late hours and didn’t have the patience as well. Now I know how it works I don’t mind it. Next time will be a speed queen for sure. Hope I can afford it.
Yes friend, my son has one just like this and it is exactly as you say. Should be a law against selling these.
I agree!
I just tossed a Roper after $400+ of repairs. It stopped functioning properly after five years of light use (single male not into doing laundry). Garbage. Replaced with a Maytag. Much happier.
Yeah I'm not surprised. Hope the Maytag gives you trouble free service. Our 1996 Maytag was trouble free til 2020.
@@isaac24😢
I just bought one, used... regret it! It wont fill, it doesnt even wash. It kind of fills, then slowly drains on its own, doesnt even spin fast. It sucks.
I'd highly recommend you go on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace and find a Whirlpool or Kenmore direct-drive machine. It won't break the bank, and it will last for years to come. It will also be much cheaper than a brand new Speed Queen, which is the closest you can get to an old school washer these days. If you want a brand new machine, I'd definitely say go for it with the Speed Queen, but it will be a lot more expensive than a used direct-drive.
I have one of those washer accept I have the maytag version of it. Miss my old washer.
I've never seen one labeled Maytag. I'm not surprised you miss your old one. Most people who buy these do.
I loved listening to you get upset. Subbed.
Thank you Greg!!!
imagine doing an overloading test in that washer AND IT EXPLODES IN MILLIONS OF PIECES!
Alister williams: Yes it's been known to happen.
My Samsung wouldve
That has happened before.
I have the Amana version. For 1 the instructions tell you that you cant use deep water wash with normal. The other cycles work well with auto water level.
Mine works well. We need to demand better but be prepared to pay for it.
WTF??? So I can't even have a "deep" water wash on all the cycles? WTF??????
Normal is the mandated "energy saving " cycle.
Use the casual cycle with deep water wash. Will wash just like an old school agitator washer.
These things aren't nearly as bad as any of the wash plate washers. Those are a joke. You can get full hot water on any other cycle other than normal.
The direct drives used real transmissions.
This is the worst washer my family has ever used. Highly recommend buying anything else.
Yeah no shit. I honestly would rather have an LG HE washer than this thing.
My roper washer and dryer have lasted a long time and still going. I bought them both new in 2000. Wow 23 years and still going!!!! The main problem with ALL washer and dryer’s of today are made in CHINA unlike mine which is all made in America with American parts.
That's back when Roper was good.
@@isaac24 That’s back when everything was built to last now everything is built to last just enough to past the warranty period.
So far been lucky with mine, purchased 2020. Use it 3 times a week.
Give it 5 more years
@isaac24 so 8 years of use? Not bad for cheap machines
We had the Kenmore version of this til the washer died mid rinse cycle no joke.
They truly are terrible. Maybe one of the worst. I'd rather have an LG top loader than this. In fact, it wouldn't even be a question.
I have a roper washer and dryer I bought brand new in 2005. They are both still running with no issues ever. I’m sure something will go out soon but I’m very impressed with the longevity. Best washer and dryer system ever made. The new washers are complete pieces of shit.
That was back when they were made good, and yes I agree
3.5 cubic feet? That’s a lie. It’s actually 2.9 cubic feet.
From Amana's website: This 3.5 cu. ft. Amana Top-Load Washer delivers a thorough clean with a Dual Action Agitator, which rolls clothes through the bottom of the wash basket. Its durable Porcelain Tub helps protect favorites from snags, while the Deep Water Wash Option adds the maximum amount of water for your laundry load, so you can clean with confidence.
The deep fill option doesn't work on the regular cycle on some of these machines.
The "deep fill" on some cycles still doesn't fill it all the way.
I know a Speed Queen is better than this crap
Your so aggressive with it! Lol Your right tho. Some other the other washers are even worse.
Yup.
Do not by this stupid washing machine
I have a 1964 Whirlpool direct drive
Fuck these modern high efficiency washers!!! I would rather have a Newton Built Maytag or a Whirlpool Direct Drive Washing Machine.
I HAVE a Newton Maytag!!!
@@isaac24 Please keep your Newton Built Maytag Washer.
Hate high efficiency washers. The wash plate top loaders don’t move the clothes and water. And front loaders put half an inch of water and detergent. And that is why I have a Maytag mvwp575gw.
Oh for sure. Surprisingly as far as I know this thing is still kicking, barely
LG actually can use a decent amount of water for rinsing and plus they have the jets in the front. They work. Would be one of the few front loaders I would take even though they do have minor reliability issues.
@kameronguerra6559: You can thank our COMMUNIST-LIKE Government for these lousy designed machines!
Roper washing machines suck I hate Roper I would never buy this washing machine but you say you like old kenmores then high efficiency washing machines
Yes they do. Old Kenmore rock.
Well it’s Whirlpool made so
i even visited my dad's friend's house and saw a amana washer and i moved the tub on it and it moved like SO MUCH! it was a high efficiency washer but man high efficiency washer's arent getting better these days even samsung's exploding washers in year 2011- 2016 these washers exploded in millions of pieces! no way am i getting a high efficiency washer
They have no suspension
I hate modern washers with a passion. Bring back the transmission driven machines!!
Yeah!!
I have a 1964 Whirlpool direct drive
Ok.
Hopefully this one is the last one ever sold. Junk box.
Still going as far as i know surprisingly
Love the enthusiasm😂😂
Thanks!
I would take this over an LG or Samsung. That said, these VMW machines are so bad. Look at that joke of a "suspension". I'm quite amazed it didn't throw an off balance error. So much for "drain and spin". More like agitate and waste time. My 2014 SQ can complete a full load in 30 minutes. This probably takes at least an hour. The only good belt drive machines Whirlpool ever made were the old ones with the wigwag solenoids. produced from 1948-1987.
I honestly would take an LG over this. For the sole reason that it can wash clothes a LITTLE bit better than this. The suspension is a joke. "drain and spin" only applies if the machine has been off for like 30 minutes, THEN it spins sometimes. I think it takes about 45 minutes. UGH. Yeah, Every washer Whirlpool made was GREAT, up until 2011, the year when hell broke loose.
I would prefer Speed Queen over LG or Samsung!!!
Of course I would too, but if I had to use a MillenniWasher, I'd sadly go with an LG.
@@isaac24 All HE washers are horrible. None of them wash worth a damn. You're better off washing your clothes in a river
@@isaac24 I would take a Whirlpool if I had to use an HE machine.
This video makes me wanna die
Why?
@@isaac24 because he likes this machine and you keep complaining about it
Had one of these bought brand new back in 2017, replacing an early 2000’s Maytag Atlantis, (which was much better, but froze due to the cold Massachusetts weather.) I had never heard of Roper before. but it’s wash action was nowhere near as good. It didn’t get the cloths clean as well as the Atlantis did, later then we got another Maytag (Legacy Series) which after about a year, it’s pump broke. Meaning the Roper was back, another year later the Roper just gave up, didn’t go at all. So we replaced with a Maytag Neptune which lasted us about 1 1/2 years until it just gave up in summer 2022. We bought a used Samsung VRTPLUS top loader and it has been working great ever since we bought it.
Hopefully the Samsung keeps going.
Do you maintenance your Maytag yourself or do you have someone else do it for you?
Problem 1 we fixed, and problem 2 we hired someone. That's all we've done to it
The Elevator World I’m not trying to be pushy or anything but you should learn how to maintain it or just clean it just a bit, like if theres any rust you should sand it down a little then paint over it. You could also change the belts if it needs it and also maybe check the transmission for any wear on the inside. This might help you keep the Maytag for even longer. It’s a really nice washer, you’re very lucky to have it lol.
There is nothing wrong with it.
Shsg
i HAVE ONE----PIECE OF CRAP
No surprise there.
Don’t buy this washer
True dat
@@isaac24 Yep. Even a Samsung is better than this thing. I have the base model Samsung washers and they haven’t had a problem yet, Manufactured in 2018. My dad has a Crosley H.E. (Made by Whirlpool) High-Efficiency Washer with no agitator. The spin cycle is really loud on it. That washer is like 10 years old I believe.
@@homeguestunton Samsung has worse. Should’ve seen mine with the rust, and the dryer wouldn’t stop quitting on us.
@@washingandmowing15 Also what is causing the loud spin cycle on my dad’s Whirlpool washer?. Branded Crosley but made by Whirlpool.
@@homeguestunton it could be bearings.
Mine won’t get past the sensing fill then will go to wash but won’t put any water in or agitate
No clue what to tell you, these machines are junk and have lots of problems. Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in? That worked on this one.
@@isaac24 yep all the time I even completely turn the electric to the outlet it uses off
Mines is a piece of junk
I had one and it was good for like 5 months then it just was Chinese shit then replaced by a Maytag Neptune
Plus, i love the dryer sound.
Good luck with the Neptune. I haven't heard good things about them.
@@isaac24 so far so good mate, it’s already leased an year.
@@isaac24 yeah it’s me again the Neptune died. We replaced it with a Samsung and it washes great
I like how you put the angry grandpa reference when he destroyed the dryer
LOL
I know from experience that you can't change settings on a machine once it has started working, except for rinse and spin or drain. No matter how hard you try, all of these machines will not give you the water you want. The only cycle on the Maytag we own that will COMPLETELY FILL TO THE TOP IS THE AFFRESH CYCLE. It uses totally Hot Water. That is the only cycle that will give me hot water. I can keep ranting and raving, but I'll quit now. Remember these machines are made by government regulations.
@josephcarreoniii: Our government is basically COMMUNIST!!!
If it's a piece of shit, why did you buy it?.
Maybe it's because they thought it would work for a bit and then they realized it doesn't work anymore so that's why they buy it and the other one failed
It was not mine. It came with the house that they purchased.
Oh okay because fortunately I really thought that was I know its your friend's house but I kind of made a mistake and thought it was yours
It's kind of funny because it looks like the Maytag is dancing. 18:50
Roper
@@isaac24 okay
how did you get the lid switch to work without the striker
I broke the plastic piece off and put it in the little slot.
I don't blame you for going off the way that you did.
I bought this same washer used because ours went out and we're gonna wait til tax season to get the one we want. Only had it three days and already taking it back to get another washer. Its a piece of crap, agitates slowly, the auto sense doesn't work and randomly stops. Like I've never used such a crappy washer in my life!
This one is still going, but barely
@isaac24 I returned it and they brought me a different one. The roper washer was trash.
Fabric softener destroys your washer. It gunk's it up.
Ok
At least Amana is better than the Maytag fake agitator
There's no good washer made today, except a Speed Queen.
Yeah I see why you would like speed queen but I’m more of a fan of the Maytag commercial
I saw one of those at Lowe's a few days ago. It felt like the exact machine in the video, with a different colored control panel. I saw no quality improvement over this.
The springs in it, are worn out
Aren't you suppose to put your clothes in first then turn it on?
You can do it either way.
God someone has issues...
Who doesn't?
The Elevator World everyone has issues...and I was not happy with my modern washer either.. but I ain’t beating it to death because I can’t just buy a new one right now😂🤣😂🤣 I suppose it was entertaining.
Thanks! They can't either, until it breaks.
16:22 like every Whirlpool now has that lid bend it’s so thin
Does my dad’s Whirlpool WTW4900BW0 do it too?. It is a VMW machine but has the impeller and stainless steel basket. It’s also older than this I believe. I believe direct drives use the same type of lids as these new belt drives. Direct drives are not necessarily higher quality than a belt drive in terms of external parts.
Direct-drives had better quality lids. Although I would agree with you. They are better but not by an extreme. The cabinets rust easily.
@@isaac24 I like direct drives better too. Direct drives actually had transmissions. And they didn’t have bearings to wear out in them either. The VMWs have non serviceable transmissions and non serviceable bearings, meaning that the whole transmission would have to be replaced to solve the issue with my washer, because the bearing has gone out. My whirlpool wtw4900bw0 washer also locks the lid right when you start it. It has to spin the load 3 times first before ever adding water to ensure the load is balanced.
Would you rather have this or a Samsung?
Samsung
@@isaac24 Samsung washers are 🗑

Yep. That's what defines pretty much every washer these days (other than Speed Queens).
Still. $200 in 1997 would’ve gotten you the same quality as a machine with more options that cost a lot more, but had the same internals.
True, but why mess with something that works. -liberals- I mean freaking government regulations.
These new machines are pieces of crap! They're the worst I have EVER seen!
