As Star Seed said....AIC is the main influence. Sully has stated he is a big Staley fan and was impressed when he heard Sickman on the radio....on an on....and there's nothing wrong with that.
Many people think the band's name stemmed from Alice in Chains song, but according to Erna, the band's name came from a small and personal incident. "I was making fun of somebody who had a cold sore on his lip and the next day I had one myself and somebody said, 'It's a godsmack.' The name stuck. We were aware of the Alice In Chains song but didn't really think much about it."
Growing up in Sarasota about ten minute bike ride to Siesta Key , the Gulf was calm unless there's a Storm out making waves , I'd Body surf , couldn't afford a board. One day with 6-8 ft.waves i caught one that i felt like a board sticking out , exhilarating until it crashed on me and rolled me on the bottom. I tried but couldn't fight it and just let it take me all the way to the shore. First NDE but awesome at same time. Thanks for reminding me of Forty years ago.
12:02 "fuck all yall mann" dude i was just trying to find your house because i love you SO MUCH/s for real though love the realness. keep it up dudes also i hust want to add i always learn something from these. i was raised catholic and had to learn some things just to get my communion but i only learned what was necessary. i never heard of a tattooed jesus but he sounds like a total badass
Glad you knew about the reference to Neil Peart's book (ghost rider). Sully is a huge rush fan. He wrote this song after reading the book. Refences like "cradling your inner child" were in the book. Yes, it was about Neil's motorcycle journey after the traumatic events. Another factoid is that Sully asked Neil to play the drums on this track. He wasn't able but gave his blessing on the song
Other great Godsmack song: Cry Like A Bitch Awake Whatever I Stand Alone One Rainy Day Running Blind Re-Align Bad Religion The Enemy Touché Good Times, Bad Times (cover) Love, Hate, Sex, Pain The Devil's Swing Hollow Voodoo Speak Straight Outta Line Just take your pick...
It’s been a long while since I actually requested a song. Reason being that you guys were pretty much reacting to all my favorite songs. That said, I doubt you will ever do this one without me requesting it. Pink Floyd - Coming Back To Life. This song has gotten me through a lot of dark moments in my life. Beautiful, elegant and sophisticated.
I'm so glad that Vin brought up the Neil Peart connection; I was watching thinking "Oh, they don't know, they don't know!" A very timely selection. RIP Mr. Peart And Sori, since you asked, Neil's daughter died in a motor vehicle accident in 1997 at the age of 19, going back to college. Ten months later his wife died from cancer, but he always said it was from a broken heart for their daughter.
I love you guys never let anyone tell you what to believe or feel or act you both have your faith and it is strong as long as you are comfortable with your life no one has the right to tell u different....be safe and remember one fist in the air one foot in the gutter
Many people think that the name Godsmack has an association with Alice in Chains and that's actually not correct. Sully Erna confirmed in an interview that he had a dream that one of his friends had a cold sore for whatever reason or another and later woke up himself only to discover he had a cold sore. Somebody said that was a Godsmack and the name kind of stuck
Hey guys! I noticed that you and Sori are pretty much the only reaction page that hasn't listened to Under Your Scars . It's a very emotional and well written song!
somehow you guys keep getting the wrong Godsmack songs this one's a little closer but nothing you've listened to yet is real Godsmack just one of their soft songs it's a good one don't get me wrong
Godsmack gets a lot of shit and I’ll probably get a lot of shit for saying this but I like Godsmack and about 75% of their music, this song in particular.
God may grant you peace, but nothing will be done about it The $ sent was outside of Patreon, I also bought some kind of diaper thing from Amazon,. The second $ sent was also outside Patreon and was some some stated need by someone in the Village. The story about the cold sore. is the same story as in Sulley's book I don't. remember a ? mark, I don't doubt you if you said I did. If I did, it would mean that I was actually asking a question or was asking in the sentence if that was indeed what you believed, besides, I don't know what a time stamp is I was not a Godsmack fan until after I read Erna's book and after I listened to Avalon, Erna's solo work, especially the song Sinner's Prayer.Neil Peart wrote 7 books, all a good read Peart's wife died of cancer and his daughter in an auto accident Sori, I've never not gotten along with anyone from the village or even exchanged words. Maybe I don't play well with others?
Serenity and Voodoo are Godsmack's best in my opinion. The other songs I've heard from them are generally just generic hard rock. But this song is on another level. I do believe that the name came from an Alice in Chains song of the same name. The song God Smack is basically likening God to heroin, and the hypocrisy of people invoking God's name while deriding Layne for his drug addiction ("What in God's name have you done?"). I believe the lyric goes "God's name is smack for some" or something like that. So yeah, the influence of Alice in Chains on this band is more than just their sound, though they deny the influence on their name. Some have said that they are just a ripoff of Alice in Chains, but I don't see it personally.
@@MustObeyTheRules an evening with godsmack is one of my favourite videos on this entire site. That and Shinedowns acoustic video from Kansas. 2 incredible acoustic shows.
Need to react to more Godsmack. Awesome band. Also check out Alice in Chains songs called God Smack and Junkhead. Also this song is based on the serenity prayer for addiction.
When I get the time, I always enjoy your guy's breakdown of these songs; the perspectives and testimony are quality life tools; I do have a question for Sori however; you have mentioned bouts with anxiety. I was just wondering, when you speak about that issue, why do you phrase it in saying, "I have or I got and so forth"... do you know when you say that, you are from a verbal perspective agreeing with these episodes let alone to say taking ownership of them(or how you would want to define them) regardless of what situation induced circumstance comes to pass; your odds of overcoming the attack against you greatly improve when you speak life into every situation. I am sure you are aware of this concept that Jesus spoke about people eating the fruit of their tongue. Seems like an uphill battle, but you will have reclaimed considerable losses to your life when you can start seeing yourself getting past this. Take every thought captive and start telling yourself, I know I am not going to like whatever the result is going to be, but this circumstance like so many others before it, this too shall pass. Hope this helps.
Great song! Even better now that I know why it was made! My favorite song of theirs is "Voodoo". And I may be wrong, but I don't think the lead singer, Sully, is Wiccan anymore? I could be wrong but I know he got his pentagram tattoo removed from his face.
There’s an Alice In Chains song called Godsmack, that’s where the name came from. I hope you guys do more Godsmack. They are like if Alice In Chains and Metallica had a baby during the Nu Metal genre. And I’m talking stylistically, not in a talent-based type of way. Because although I am a fan of Godsmack, you know they can’t touch Alice In Chains or Metallica.
This band started as an Alice In Chains cover band and took their name from the AIC song. That's why the vibe is so similar.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh!!
That is the believed theory of the name but check out the Wikipedia Godsmack page under History. Sully Erna gives a different story.
As Star Seed said....AIC is the main influence. Sully has stated he is a big Staley fan and was impressed when he heard Sickman on the radio....on an on....and there's nothing wrong with that.
Sully has said the band is not named after the AIC song of the same name. But I don’t doubt the AIC influence on them.
Many people think the band's name stemmed from Alice in Chains song, but according to Erna, the band's name came from a small and personal incident. The difference is the lead singer of Godsmack kicked his heroine habit.
You need to do more Godsmack ... they are amazing, give them a real chance. Can you please do “awake” or “the enemy “ please!!😩😩😩
Along with touché
Godsmack is awsome. Theyre an excellent live band too.

Faceless is good front to back
IMO their best album 👍
I like how your videos actually play the whole songs, certain reactors skip half the songs and it makes it unwatchable
