Coming from a big box liquor store, don't expect to walk into a liquor store and ask if there is any allocated bottles not on the shelf. Establishing a relationship with your local stores is the best way.
The prices for Kentucky Owl have been dropping everywhere. You can find the Batch 12 for less than $150 some times. Florida is tough ScottW said it best a few comments below. I go to small spots when I'm in FL to find dusty bottles not allocated bottles.
You literally did the same route that I do on a monthly basis and am disappointed every time. Hit that publix every week and never even knew that she got that big shipment. I was there the day the Midwinter arrived but $200 is a bit hot.
The key to Florida bourbon hunting in Florida is much like it is in Virginia. You need to know when the drops happen. Anything that’s allocated is gone that day. We have a very efficient Facebook page here for hunting Bourbons., much like your discord in Virginia For example today I picked up a Elijah Craig 18 and a Bookers 2024 reserve for MSRP at Publix. Buffalo Trace allocated is often gone in a day but when it comes into Walmart and other big stores it is near MSRP. ABC stores put their good bourbons in their vault program. Usually the only allocated they have is Weller Special Reserve. As you found out just showing up doesn’t get you much in the way of bourbons.
Joe, You have no idea. If you do find something allocated if it is not at Publix, Winn Dixie, Walmart, ABC, or Total Wine you can expect it to be 3-5 times MSRP.
Shit, I had a great hunting experience in Orlando. You should have checked to see if other bourbon hunters have been to Miami instead of asking a local discord.
Mega wine is terrible for bourbon ABC good stuff is behind their point system Publix get buffalo trace 2-3 times a year Total wine gets special bottles every now and then around allocation season. Their staff is trained to push there partner bourbons but they’re all trash There are mom and pop shops but most are hood liquor stores with minimal selection or completely overpriced allocations (100 eagle rare, 150 Blanton, 300 Stagg, 1k brac) Really just awful here in Florida for bourbon
Not the best representation of bourbon hunting in FL. Can’t lump one small pocket of Miami or wherever as that is how the rest of the state is. Talk to clerks, build relationships. Oh, don’t go to ABC looking to score allocated stuff. They have a rewards system. There is life outside of state controlled stores. 😂
I was in the ft meyers area recently. Publix had every allocated bottle but prices were outrageous. Had at least 25 bottles of Russell 15 and would not budge at all. Tried if I spend x amount but would not negotiate.

Bro went to ABC to find allocated bourbons!

Wal Mart liquor has the goods at MSRP
Just didn’t go to the right places. I hunt and find stuff here all the time. Sometimes even at MSRP

It was a disappointing trip if I’m being honest 😕
Haha. Saved a ton because there wasn’t anything worth buying.

Really just awful here in Florida for bourbon
1st like, switched over from watching Mineck GTS review 😂
Joe you needed to find a total wine I go to them in Florida all the time and usually find some good stuff 🥃
Fort Lauderdale has more. Also look in total wines

For sure. It was an admittedly small pocket with no store recommendations.
My controlled state has twice what all of these stores had combined. And all at MSRP.
💯
