I would also educate the waiter to be more discreet with the bill. More often than not the bill payer is inviting their guests and sometimes they do not want the guests to know how much was spent.

In Canada, it’s similar when using a card except, the server will never touch the card cause it’s not theirs.
they will set up the machine, then give it to you so you can see exactly what amount was added (very crucial to reduce scam risk), then you either insert or tap your card, after it’s done take your card back and return the machine to server
