What's with all the obnoxious comments? Are all of you critics singing at the Met? Or an opera house for that matter? I had the great pleasure of hearing Angela sing at the Ricahrd Tucker Gala last night, and next to almost all other well established opera singers she became the highlight of the evening. I along with the rest of who attended (evidenced by her roaring applause) were blown away with her artistry, control and ease with which she sings.
I love her! Nevertheless, she kind of ruined my "Semiramide" experience at the Met. Opera last year, everyone else was fantastic BUT HER. I guess she was having a bad night, they all have those. Also, she has a long way ahead regarding acting skills.

I'm not sure that there is much validity in the critical commentary of AM singing. it sounds like a lot of tittle tattle. How often do you hear a singer who makes you sit up and notice and you want to hear again? There is so much that is very, very good here. Singers are always working to refine their technique, but I would pay good money to hear a performance like this.
AHalfBaritone Then spend the money if you have it. She has the voice, but not the technique. A solid technique is needed to control her wild vibrato. She's very young. To have this type of vibrato when one is so young means she needs a good vocal coach. If she can control her vibrato, she can be great.

AnDee, I agree! I heard her sing this in Caramoor and the Met Council auditions the year she won. Hearing her in person sing this was unreal. The voice was very steady and the line was extraordinary
Beautiful voice, but the tempo is ridiculously slow. I heard her in another video say she wanted it slightly slower so that the coloratura doesn't get away from her, but I think by picking up the tempo just a bit she would fare better. Brava!
Lovely timbre to this voice - warm and golden, but too big all the time - reign in, watch vibrato and watch intonation. But, breathing is terrific. What fabulous talent
Ms. Meade could be another great. However she stills needs to work on some major flaws. She tenses her shoulders when going above an A6 which only hinders her voice. She tends to focus on making vibrato instead of letting it flow naturally causing her to have an almost overly observed shakeness. If she would just train for another 5 years she could be really really good.
Don't listen to any of these wannabe voice teachers and singers. They have NO idea. IBM sure she is laughing to herself if she even cares to read the comments below.
The instrument is beautiful, but I do feel that she attacked some of the notes. Her voice is so big. I think she simply needs to gain more control of her great instrument.

coloratura gets away just due to her lifting much more weight in the voice than she is able to handle and shouts many notes that need to be sung legato. Tempo does not solve the problem it just hides it a bit. Wish her a great success and hopefully she will put less weight on her voice. But problem is deeper than that. If she puts less weight she will not sound good....it needs something else and I can't explain it here unfortunately. She is stock with the way she sings.
Interesting. Great fundamental instrument and sound, good breath. She'll get work in roles that don't have very many who can fill them. Problem is she is self indulgent, over sings, thinks loud is art, loses pitch and pitch control, and sings flat. It's more than just hitting the high notes. But, it's a very big voice and unfortunately it's all about big, and secondarily musicality and art. She will get big time work. All the things listed can be worked on and improved, generally, with a lot of work. Btw, that tempo was ridiculous; too slow. That was about Angela Meade and not Norma. This was 2012. She is now on GP with Semiramide at the Met. From the clip, she is still singing flat with coloratura more an impressionistic sound wash than any notes. But hey, she's at the Met ! Enjoy it while you're there !
Once more: movement of chin is wrong! The vibrato is not produced right! Its fake...Listen to Maria Callas or Renata Tebaldi, Rosa Ponselle ect. they did it perfect and were always supportet from the belly! They waisted not more air than they need, they keep it for difficult and long frases...their breathing technique was well trained, you must look at them, learn from this real art of then...

Vette gaddia she's 34 in this video??? She's not very young in terms of voice and this was 4 years after she won the MET auditions with the same aria

She has no wobble but sometimes tendencys towards tremolo. I like her anyway and she is a true drammatic coloratura.
