Glad that you're ok. I was taught that you should never use cruise control in the rain or slippy road conditions. It is a recipe for losing control as the car wheel can accelerate when it loses grip.
Was going to comment this as well...
100% correct.
Well, as for someone who really cares while driving I didn’t know that. Very good point, will keep that in mind 👌
Yeah, I’ve also learnt something new today. something I never considered, I suppose you don’t until it happens 👍
cruise control should instanly turn off when tcc notices traction loss, atleast all my cars have been like this.
So sad about the Mini but thank god you weren’t injured. Stay safe and please put on some new rubber to glue you to the road, no matter what the weather 👍👏
I'm glad you're OK man. Tyres and brakes really are the most important component on a car, but sometimes we learn this the hard way.
Glad you’re ok, those situations usually end up much worse.
Aquaplaning is very scary. There's practically nothing you can do but pray. It happened to me once many years ago and scared the bejeezes out of me. Luckily there was no damage to me or the car. You will notice a huge difference with the new tyres. Good choice.
Those bonnet stripes were a throwback to the 60s rally cars
Looking forward to part 2 👌
Glad to hear that nothing happened to you. The bumper and DRL will be fixed soon. Take care and slow down on rainy days. Thxs for all your videos....
Don't drive at 130kph in Belgium in winter, road conditions are so bad just drive at 100-110kph, you will be more safe
I'm so so glad you didn't hurt yourself because you're my favorite belgian UA-camr ! So happy that you turned out to be safe and the car not too damaged... Take care mate cheers!
The important thing is that you are okay and nobody else was involved. A very important lesson was learned: Never use cruise control unless the pavement is clear and dry. That is in the owner's manual of every car I have owned that had cruise control available or fitted as standard equipment. Some cars will automatically disengage the cruise control when the wipers are turned on. When a car starts to hydroplane the engine computer gets confused, usually adding throttle, at least at first. Nobody could regain control as long as the cruise control remains engaged. I'm just sorry you learned the hard way.
never tell your speed on social media, the police and the insurance is watching !
I am happy you are in one piece ,take care and thank you for a wonderfull clip or posting.
Grts
Carl.
Painting metallic with a spray gun can be quite a challenge if you do it for the first time. How many base coats and clear coats layers are you applying? 2-3 layers of base coats are necessary, also apply a very thin last layer of base coat (mist) from a certain distance to distribute the metallic particles evenly. Also about 3 additional layers of clear coat can be necessary if you want to polish the dirt out afterwards (dirt is inevitable when spraying in such environment).
Sh@t happens, but you always learn from it. Glad you're ok, you get the Mini back in shape again.
Memphis crash his Mini. Everything for content.... 😁 I'm happy to hear that everything went well with you at least. Take care and drive safe.
When it's raining, it's not good drive with 130 km/h. Lessons learned. This experience must learn eyery young driver.
you shouldn't hold the spray gun so close, and go faster with wider strokes and spray thin layers at a time and overlap them bit by bit to make them thicker, and you can do layers, you don't need to flood it with a 2mm thick layer of clear all at once or you get runs. And read about the drying times, especially in cold, damp conditions because if you spay on a layer that's not 100% dry, you'll get gas off that makes bubbles, or the next coat might not even stick and it could "melt" the layer under it too.
All things considered, you managed to control the situation pretty well. Most people would slam on the brake and spin out of control.
Glad you’re OK and not hurt. We’ve all been there!
Excellent video content mate and a lesson for us all drive to the road conditions keep them coming you are one of the best with clear instructions that all can follow
I’m glad you’re all good. That’s what’s most important. Alas.. chock this up to a learning experience. It’s great you’re making some preventative steps! All the best to you from the States!
Hi, very happy you are ok after the event. Hey it happens to us all. Great you did the repairs yourself, well done. Looking forward to the next video, do not rush the work take your time to get it correct. Many thanks from Nr Liverpool UK.
Just discovered your channel great content my guy! Thanks for your skills and sharing
Good news is you are in good health, only you pride was hurt, and some damage to your car. As always I'm impressed with how you managed to repair your car's, I guess you're lucky to have the use of the garage.
Really enjoying the content, glad your ok. Can’t wait to see how you find the ps5’s and also hope the mini bumper turn out better then the e28 door although that’s still one of your funniest moments 😂
Great work Mr memphis the mini I had the run flat had been taken off and one wheel had a crack so be careful 👍
Nice work Memphis!
Goed gedaan… well done… You are becoming a real allrounder!
The joys of motoring my friend, You mentioned in your vid you were only doing 130 MPH or KLM's?. Either way that's pretty quick for unlit area. Those "stupid stripes" are a throwback to the cars history. Those stripes mean the car is /was a J.C.S {John Cooper Special} John Cooper being one of the origional engine designers back in the 1960's. Good luck with the repair excited to see how it turns out.👍
Glad you’re ok. Great video.
Glad that you are ok!
That was bad luck indeed but at least there were no injuries, except to the Cooper S. Great job on the repairs so far. Can't wait for the next episode. 🙂
Thank God your ok 👍
Love your videos! 😊👌🏻
Tough break but like you say… no one was hurt. Small blow to the ego and a bit of damage to the car but you learn from you mistakes. Great video.
It's great your doi it yourself, I know it's pride more than anything, well done, great video
Good to see content on the Mini again (although not the content you had in mind probably haha). As you demonstrate, material is fixable/replaceable. Unfortunately my car had a similar fate...
Good job! don't worry about not finishing the project, it is very difficult to film and actually do the work. at the same time.
i think weve all made that mistake with our first cars, nah tires are good for one more season and the we learn in a similar fashion, glad you are ok man, at least you seen the bright side and got some content out of it!!
There's no shortcut to experience with driving. Glad it's relatively light damage.
Goood for you. And definitely do not compromise on tyres. Should do well with the Michelin.
Thanks for showing the paint supplier, i live 2 streets away and did not know..
Glad you're OK. You might know now, but first rule when aquaplaning is to keep the wheel perfectly straight, no matter where you’re heading, until you it stops aquaplaning and you get grip back. Your wheels aren't in contact with the road surface when you’re aquaplaning, they're floating on the water, so steering can't do anything to help. Instead, it will just make you spin the second the car stops aquaplaning because the wheels will be pointing at an angle when you suddenly get grip back. It takes self-control not to steer, but you can practice in a special training car with outrigger wheels, where the instructor can lift the road wheels up and down hydraulically. Everyone should do the training when they first get their licence. It might save their life one day.
the new Michelins will transform your car for sure. Looking forward to the next episode!
Glad your ok. The car can be fixed and your smashing that nice one.
Sometimes shit happens, cross my fingers for the job! Thanks for your video 😊👍👍
Awesome job!
It could have been so much worse. Happy you weren't hurt Memphis.
I notice a lot of UA-camrs driving cars with tires that show dry rot and are 10+ years old. Hoovie recently had an old tire blow out on the highway.
This seems like a false economy. At the very least they're risking their cars. More importantly they're putting themselves and others at risk of injury.
Glad you weren't injured.
oh yeah, summer tyres in the winter and old, killing combo.. i like all season tyres from the Continental, they are not sporty, but are behaving great on wet road and snowy roads
I got some PS5s on my Mazda; quite honestly the best tyre I've ever driven on. Loads of grip, and water displacement is fantastic!
I know how you feel after such a trip and understand your feelings. But what doesn't kill you can be learned from and I'm glad it's limited to damage to the car. Once you've aquaplaned, you're unfortunately no longer the driver of the car, but only a passenger, but then you have to have the best tires on the rear axle so the car doesn't start spinning. If the best tires are in the back, the car will probably continue straight ahead, which is of course bad, but not as dangerous as if it spins out of control.
this guy can fix anything
I picked up on the oh shit I'm sure you said much worse when you hit the guardrail. Very happy you are ok. Car can be fixed you would be missed. That being said it looks good coming along nicely like all of your work. Stay well stay safe.
it was better with stripes 🙃and the most important thing is that you're safe!!
From your description of the accident I think you got off very lightly, that could have ended very badly. I'm glad it was minor.
Jeeej, new video. I guess I'm going to sleep a little bit later
Main thing is you are ok my friend 👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧
Great work, really interested in what the issue is. I am assuming its probably the paint not working well with the base or something. Painting is tough
Next time get the tension out of the crack bij drilling a small hole where the crack ends. Without this there's a big chance that the crack will go further
Yep - aquaplaning in the wet is always very fast and a bit unnerving. The Michelins should make a huge difference. Lucky your pride was all that got hurt!!
Thank you
1:18 left brake light is out on the E28
Shit happens... I went on a long 8000km roadtrip last summer and everything went super smoothly until I decided to push myself too much and clipped a van. Looking back I was way too tired to drive but now after repairing the car myself I know better and have learned from my mistake just like you have
im not a painter or anything but i think youre way too close to the bumper and your not moving your hands fast enough. still great video over all and im really inspired by you. ive been watching youre videos for like 3 years now and needless to say, i wish i had the same opportunities as you have. i wish i had a garage where i could work on cars and stuff. im living in the middle of the city without any chance to rent a garage. i really love your videos and hope to someday accomplish what you have. all i want is a garage in which i can work on my car or on projects. keep it up man!
Ничего страшного, хорошо, что сам остался целым. Молодец, сам сломал, сам сделал!
Sorry to hear about your misadventure with the min Memphisi, but you were honest enough to acknowledge that you were partly at fault(from past trips through Belgium I know that the drainage on your motorways is rubbish, and not having the street lighting is another contributory factor) ....but you have made a start on repairs and I'm sure it will be A1 again soon......also I'd like to know your opinion if the new Michelin pilot sport 5s move you have a few miles on them.....
Yup my dad has one he has a aftermarket exhaust and intercooler
Typisch Belgische wegen 😂 blij dat je oke bent. En dat je weer een leuke video voor ons heb.
God bless you
Good interesting video
I have a fear of using cruise control when it’s heavy rain because of puddles and aquaplaning,i usually sit at 90/95km (60mph) here in the uk
Or you take an “omnium insurance” as we call it in Belgium, but that would be less fun to watch :)
Love you
Your lens is acting up with the focus. Try with a bigger aperture (f5.6 or higher works best), and adjust the ISO and shutter speed accordingly. Cheers from a R52 JCW owner 🤝
And never use cruise controle in rain and sliperry condition ice snow heavy rain puddles, but you learn ,happy you are in one piece,...and,...you can fix it👍👍👍👍💪💪💪
Not sure cruise control is a good idea in the rain. Glad you are okay, could’ve been much worse.
4:15 probably also better not to use cruise control when it rains
Dat was schrikken. Gelukkig was het maar blikschade en kun je het navertellen.
Was there a leak on the varnish? In cool weather, it is applied a little differently than in the video.
Leuk kanaal! Ik kom uit Limburg Nederland denk jij de Belgische kant schat ik in
You could have drilled a small(1mm) hole at the crack's end to prevent future splitting. Also why are you buying a summer tyre in winter ? :D
Shit happens Memphis great job on fixing it 👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧
True on the tires and the speed in wet conditions and you were not driving a Mercedes.... and if you were in a Mercedes, it would never of happened, lol
This is the reason why I don't use cruise control during heavy rain.
Cheapest life insurance = good tires!
Nice to hear that you are okay, but dude, are you really driving with these tyres? They are the only part connecting you to the road, always spend money on good tyres and brakes.
how has reliability been for your car? I want to get a mini again but I want an R53 and not an R55. Cheers!!
Dag een vraag welk spuitpistool gebruik je ?
Be aware that if you don't install run flat, the driving characteristics really change.
That SAAB never stopped jumping, no dampers at all? :)
None on the rear
Did i hear…130kph… in heavy rain…on sh*t tires? You really need to think about that. My R53 benefited greatly from a set of Continental Pro Contacts
Speed and distance for driving and here I'm guessing clear coat.
I liked those stripes on the hood if im being honest
Hey there. Been following since your early days in YT. My son might be interested in going to Campus de Nayer for automotive studies. Is there any way we could set something up to talk about your experience there, what it brought you and what the challenges / opportunities are?
Do you have a channel email we can contact you on?
Thanks!
memphis.channel.yt@gmail.com
Cool. Will message you.
How come you have the US markers on the r53? Did you add these yourself ?
No they were there when i bought it
@memphis5220 I got excited I might be able to get a set from Europe. Importing from US or Japan to Ireland is stupid expensive. Love the channel ❤️
crashing amateur :D i managed to break my FRONT bumper&right fender on my car by reversing so i can turn&drive back🤣 anyway :D nice video, gl with fixing r53
Looking at these tires, I think that's luck you're still living. How the hell this passed obligatory technical review?
Strijderrr
No insurance?
130 on cruise control in heavy rain is not a wise decision
