I believe this is the coolest journal cover I have seen on UA-cam YET!! I just love the idea of using an old book that has passed through potentially dozens of hands and giving it a chance to invite you in again for a completely different story.
Xoxo Heike
This journal has inspired me to make my first ever journal for my Granddaughter’s birthday. I know she is going to love it. I learnt so much, and I certainly got hooked in journal making.
This is exactly how I make my journal covers. I love your choice of fabric. I’m so happy I chose my sewing machine with the automatic needle threader, it’s a life saver 😂
Thank you Barbara for showing from start, using a book cover to make a journal - not to many good videos showing this. I haven't yet dared to make on, even though I bought everything you should need, accept no thick cardboard sheets for the back or to use if a book isn't used. It's so beautiful everything you make. So grateful for your videos.❤❤
Barbara, love this cover. So far I have only I made journal covers out of cereal boxes. When I find the right book cover I’ll try to do one like you just made. TFS! ❤
I have made three covers using this technique. I also like soft covers using the bubble wrap mailers covered with fabric. But I also like using the hardback book cover as is and even sometimes cutting the hard cover book in half😊 to make more of a autograph book style and then taking the other half and cutting it down to make a small journal. So many many possibilities!!!
Absolutely love your cover! I never thought of adding the back and front fabric back to back and then adding the individual book covers and spine pc. like you did. Perfect fabric choice with your papers and the cover paper!
Wow this is just such a lovely and quite simple way of making a cover Barbara, thank you so much for the inspiration. That iron is the coolest thing , you have such great finds at your flea market. Fabric you used is beautiful, it is going to be a fantastic journal. Love watching you. Take care and stay blessed.❤
Thank you Barbara for sharing your amazing skills. My favourite cover must be a paper bag and fabric soft cover which is totally inspired by 49dragonflies!❤ I have learned so much from your channel. I am so grateful I found you😊❤
I watched this whole series from start to finish and It was incredible, so inspiring but also so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing with us, I’ve learned so much and will definitely have a go at this. I’ll pop back and comment on all the other videos. Hugs Mandy ❤❤
Hi Barbara, Hope you are keeping creative. I always enjoy your videos, I have yet to take the plunge and make my own junk journal. Thankyou for all your inspirational. Love Trudy from South Africa. 🎉❤
Ahhhhh. I was wondering why you used a full piece of fabric for the side that just peeks out between the book cover panels, as it seemed to be a waste of fabric. But now I see the fabric peeks out everywhere, so that makes much more sense. I was thinking you could make a pocket on the inside of each panel, by just gluing 3 edges of each panel onto the fabric & that way the London fabric would be more visible too. It’s such beautiful fabric. And I love that mosaic fabric too. Sigh. I wish Tim’s fabrics weren’t so expensive
Eeeek! This was so much fun. I am in love with your cover, but I actually like mine too, and that doesnt happen often. Lol Thank you for doing these videos. ❤
Very pretty cover and the happy accident is so cool. I want to try making a paper bag and cloth journal like you’ve been making I think it might end up being my favorite. Thank for sharing your talents, Barbara. 💕🌸
Covers are the most difficult part of junk journaling for me. I seldom have a book cover that I can use. I most often use cereal boxes or such and cover them with fabric. And then I put on a topper and Lace or whatever. I love this journal cover you have made. The inside fabric is so beautiful
Love this vintage cover ❤️ Of late, I've used different techniques in creating paperbag journals following your tutorials actually. Also love the hard panels with (partial) fabric spine binding also inspired from your creative vids 😊
Not seen this way of doing a cover before, I am so inspired that I going to make one right now. I really enjoy watching your process videos, I will be here for the signatures for sure.... Cheers for sharing x
I adore your style. Beautiful. I was hoping you would remove that blue sticker inside the front cover ☺ I use food cardboard boxes. But feeling inspired to try some new ways.
This cover is so beautiful! I just love this technique of widening the spine and using the old spine as part of the new. I've done that with one cover, but I'm planning on making more. 😊 Right now I'm trying to figure out how I'll manage to put together my latest project, where I didn't plan ahead and now I'm in a tiny bit of a pickle... 😆
Hello Barbara, this cover turned out very beautiful. At first, I thought you going to hide the sawing of the signatures under the book spine cause it seems rather hard to make halls in it. The colours really match. I was wondering: what do you do during drying time of a project? do you start another one, do you take a break, do you make dinner? I don't know how long it takes but I am having a hard time with this. Every time I start something and need to wait and think of starting another project I never seem to finish the first one. I would love some tips on that.
Thanks! It’s really hard to wait, that’s true. I try to distract myself by doing other work (editing, designing digitals, emails, cooking, etc) I find it difficult to start another project when my head is in another one. Going for a walk works too or doing it late at night and going to bed 😊❤️
Barbara, hold a small piece of white paper behind your needle. Threading it will become a whole lot easier. An old sewers trick ! Love your channel.
Thank you, will do! ❤️
That’s a great top tip thank you for sharing with us all
The fabric choice - front and back- is marvelous.
This is just fabulous! I love how you added these panels on top. Amazing cover! Hugs 🤗❤️
I believe this is the coolest journal cover I have seen on UA-cam YET!! I just love the idea of using an old book that has passed through potentially dozens of hands and giving it a chance to invite you in again for a completely different story.
Yay, thank you! ❤️

Hi Barbara, I know its not important when making a journal to follow exactly, but I am curious what size cover you used. xx
The panels are 18.5 x 13 cm
I love this one xx@@49dragonflies
