  • This webinar is part of American Farmland Trust’s Soil Health Stewards Virtual Training held for entities in Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming on April 16, 17, 18 & 19, 2024. This session familiarizes participants with summary findings from the AFT-NRCS Soil Health Economic and Environmental Case Studies from both row crop and grazing operations. It teaches participants to use the new FRPP-related case study from Pennsylvania. AFT-NRCS case studies provide calculated estimates of the costs, benefits, and return on investment experienced by “soil health successful farmers,” and estimates of water quality and climate benefits. It shares additional findings from the economic literature about key themes of soil health practice adoption including the effects of using soil health practices and important farmer characteristics that lead to adoption. Finally, the session discusses ways these materials can be used with landowners and producers to encourage soil health practice adoption.
