What happened to serials that actually empowered women to make bold choices about their own life, including marriage? How can a serial glorify and romantify such a heinous act of just tying the nuptial thread around a girl's neck, without her consent? What type of message is this?
And how can Kavin just say so firmly that he knows that Venba loves him deeply inside her heart? She said no, and no means no. If anything, he is the villain of this show. He had no courage to step up to his mother and his family to stop his engagement to Yazhini, and now he married a girl without her consent, implicating such emotional trauma on the girl. Yet, he is portrayed to be the hero.
"நதிகளும் பெண்களும் இயற்கையில் சமம் தானே". I started watching this serial because of how it was different from other serials in the aspect of how there were many empowering female characters - like Sharada who was a teacher who managed both her workspace and household with much success.
But it seems like this show just wants to normalise disrespecting women, especially in India where there are so many of sexual harrasment cases in just the span of one day.

Right ! This is so stupid ! This serial sure have poor writing ! I mean, she says no, so many times and still they dared to do this to her. If he really loved her he would have done something about his engagement before asking her to marry him ! Like, few episodes ago, he heard his mother saying that she would kill the girl if she discover that her son loves someone. Why did they show such scene if it's not to use it for the story ? They could have make him do something to protect her and maybe questioning about his ex's death ? And also they have shown Kavin as an open minded men who understands women's right and all. Then why would he do such stupid thing as tiruttu kalyanam and also emotional blackmailing ? That doesn't fit the character at all ! And also, concerning vemba's attitude, everyone's being like "that girl just acts like an innocent, she is the one always around him" bruuuh why do people always have to put the blame on the girl ! What did she do ? She's a nice girl who only think about kabin as a good boss and good friend and so she just helps him ! How could she know about all this ? And also, she comes from a middle class family and is adopted. So how will she feel around theses rich and influential people ? She knows that she can't go against them, so she needs to deal with it softly (she is already threatened by all that rowdy trying to kill her). Kavin is her friend so obviously she tries to reject him without hurting him so much. But again, the poor writing shows her as a weak girl. They really need to learn basic human psychology 🙄🙄

However, Marriages done without two consenting individuals should not be considered legal, if a person isn't interested in it as simple as it sounds the marriage is pointless and invalid. Here, venba was tricked and the guy tied the knot without her realising, which is even worse.
